While bapenguin's away...

Slim Pickens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slim_Pickens):

"Well, boys, I reckon this is it — nuclear combat toe to toe with the Rooskies. Now look, boys, I ain't much of a hand at makin' speeches, but I got a pretty fair idea that something doggone important is goin' on back there. And I got a fair idea the kinda personal emotions that some of you fellas may be thinkin.' Heck, I reckon you wouldn't even be human bein's if you didn't have some pretty strong personal feelin's about nuclear combat. I want you to remember one thing, the folks back home is a-countin' on you and by golly, we ain't about to let 'em down. I tell you something else, if this thing turns out to be half as important as I figure it just might be, I'd say that you're all in line for some important promotions and personal citations when this thing's over with. That goes for ever' last one of you regardless of your race, color or your creed. Now let's get this thing on the hump — we got some flyin' to do."
Not only the name of a legendary actor, it's also the best descriptor of this week's gaming releases...

Tuesday
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (GBA ( http://www.gametab.com/gba/harry.potter.and.the.order.of.the.phoenix/6585/))
Project Sylpheed (XBOX360 (http://www.gametab.com/xbox360/project.sylpheed/6624/))
Riviera: The Promised Land (PSP (http://www.gametab.com/psp/riviera.the.promised.land/6623/))
Smash Court Tennis 3 (PSP (http://www.gametab.com/psp/smash.court.tennis.3/6622/))
Sword of the New World: Granado Espada (PC ( http://www.gametab.com/pc/sword.of.the.new.world.granado.espada/6621/))

So there you have it. Still, there's always E3 to keep gamers occupied in the meantime.

It's generally a rule of thumb, if you want your game completely ignored by the gaming press : release during E3 week. Although I must say Project Sylpheed and Riviera on PSP both look good.

Whoa, Riviera on PSP? Where'd that come from?

Project Sylpheed is a budget titled at 39.99 =D. I played the demo and it was a nice blast from the past. It's like Wing Commander meets Final Fantasy.

Riviera on PSP? Sweet. Now I have it on GBA, GBA for PSP, and PSP. Neat.

Anyone with a PSP should pick up Riviera, it was an excellent game on the GBA.

I'm seriously looking at Slypheed... The demo really grew on me once I customized my ship.
And at budget price? I doubt I'll be able to resist once I get my Paycheck...

Sword of the New World: Granado Espada looked like it had potential, didn't it? I dunno, nevermind, walking away.

I hope Sylpheed allows control customization in the full game. The demo and the non-inversed-Y-axis pissed me off.

"Weakly"... heh... I don't know if you meant that as a throwback to the old site name, but I got a chuckle out of it nonetheless. :D

You can invert the Y-Axis in the demo. You have to do it from the main menu, though. Once you've started the game, it won't let you change the axis. Annoying, but quite possible.

Anything on XBLA? I really want my Wing Commander Arena already.

I very rarely get games brand new these days- I've adjusted to a comfortable mode of GameFly rentals and the occasional used purchase- but I might grab Project Sylpheed as soon as I can find it. I really enjoyed the demo, and I hope the sales will be good enough to encourage more space shooters. (I still pull out Starlancer for the Dreamcast every once in a while. That was a fantastic game.)

I played the original Silpheed back in '88, and Project: Sylpheed doesn't really seem to be similar at all. The demo made it seem like more of a traditional, Wing-Commander-style game. I remember the original fondly, but I guess try the demo if you think this is for you.

Am I correct in assuming that Riviera is a JRPG?

Yes! Excellent quote, bap! I was actually introduced to Dr. Strangelove in 11th grade humanities class, where we watched it and my friend and I were the only ones laughing our asses off.
