As everyone wants to get in on the "leaked Nintendo Revolution controller pic" game, today I will link to RevoGaming which has a scan from a Russian magazine (http://www.revogaming.net/html/modules/news/article.php?storyid=37) of what they think might be the Nintendo Revolution game controller.

Along with the pic, they have this translated text:

It has no buttons at all. The controller and gamer both interact with each other through movement; not only is the game controlled by the movement of the player but the whole controller gives some sort of feedback. Built-in sensors can tell the difference between the controller and the console, as well as determining the controller’s position. An example of the control would be that turning the controller around and moving it in a direction would be one form of controlling.I'm sure we will see a couple of dozen more "exlusive leaked pics" of the Revolution controller leading up to Nintendo's official announcement. Relax and enjoy the ride.

If that pic is real, then it's clear Nintendo has completely lost it.

If such a design were true, then it would be ridiculous to base an entire console around it.

Agreed and agreed. Now, when you're squirming in your seat, moving the controller everywhere, maybe something will actually happen for once!

Seen it already, came out on Engadget like 2 months ago, during E3.

What happens when you throw the controller? Maybe, just maybe, Nintendo will finally go with it.

Atleast if you do toss it, it won't come back at you and put your eye out.

That's right. Sony's little boomerang doo-hickey. How soon I forgot.

The Russian text in the alleged scan is a very apparent and very bad word-for-word translation from English. Between mangled Russian and snippets of English, the text most likely means this:

Revolutionary controller -- full tactile keyboard. No buttons on the controller whatsoever. The controller reacts to a player's motions. The controller reacts when it's moved (? not clear here). It also has built-in touch sensors which work in a way that allows a player to feel certain elements in ascending and descending... the text truncates here.

Immersion's touch sensitive panel with tactile feedback, it seems, as it was predicted before. Assuming this all is not a load of bull.

Joke.

Not a joke FROM/ON Nintendo, but a joke ON anyone who believes that crap.

How are you going to play Mario properly with a silly sloppy wedge that reads your movements? It's only good (in theory) for race games and flight games and really only arcade ones like Wipeout and Warhawk. Maybe Marble Madness/Monkey Ball.

No decent interface for platformers, sports, fighters, RTSs, FPSs.

It's a joke.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather go see the hit Martin Lawrence film "Rebound" than have a controller that could read my MIND.

it should blatantly be an ammorphous mass which can morph itself into the shape of any controller. the T1000 of controllers. oh, and make it black and shiny if it can't do that, but it tries to be all things to all people, then it's never gonna work.

Everyone seems stuck on that (quite awesome) fake Rev video.

IMO the best thing would be a controller in pieces, a left and right hemisphere that connect to the battery/wireless stuff in the middle. See in this way especially crazy games get their own custom crazy controller parts cheaper without the wireless stuff and battery to worry about. Either that Nintendo has a range of different formations, like a touch screen piece and maybe even a trackball piece.

Hah! I haven't noticed this before. Now I looked at the russian text and it's clearly a fake. It looks like someone tried to translate a chunk of text through babelfish.

Hmm... somehow I doubt Nintendo is going to completely abandon usability and friendliness for 'futuristic'. This looks like something Sony would design, sleek and futuristic-looking, but rather impractical and awkward in real use.

The Nintendo Test: If something looks like it would have Steve Jobs in convulsions, it's not Nintendo.

I can't see Nintendo completely ignoring traditional controller design and going with something like this. We are talking about the same company that dragged it's feet when switching to disc media, did the same thing with online support and justifies not supporting digital output by making the adapter so hard to get that nobody uses it. Overall I'd say Nintendo is way too conservative to totally turn their backs on the typical curved controller with buttons setup.

This is fake if for no other reason than that you wont be able to play all the classic nintendo games that nintendo has advertised as being available.

I would disagree. Nintendo simply has no idea about what is useful, and what is not. They wouldn't know a revolution if it hit them upside the head.

It'd be kinda neat if the whole controller was a sleek black with no visible buttons in the center until the game turned on, then you'd see the buttons appear suddenly in that same creepy blue outline, depending on what game you're playing.

I was just talking to my friend about that. It could work too, because nintendo says that you can play any nintendo game w/ the controller from the Revolution...so it would work.
