Xbox360 Fanboy is reporting that one of Koei's once PS3 exclusive games now seems to be headed to the 360 exclusively.
They say that although Koei announced that the futuristic racer Fatal Inertia be available on September 11th for the Xbox 360, Koei didn't mention any PS3 release date for the game.

Intrigued they contacted Koei directly:
Koei responsed by stating that the PS3 version is "delayed indefinitely" due to "progress of the game engine for PS3".

You can read more about it here. (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/07/02/fatal-inertia-dated-now-a-360-exclusive/)

I really want to play a demo of this one.

Ouch. That sucks. It was scheduled to be a PS3 launch title and they STILL haven't worked out issues with the game engine on the PS3?

That's really bad.

I thought the Unreal 3 Engine was up and running on the PS3.

What the hell...? Wasn't this one of the first screenshots they ever showed for the PS3?

Maybe they don't want to compete with the upcoming Wipeout HD...

As I said in the other topic on the subject: Sounds like bullshit. You know that UE3 is working fine on the PS3. They just don't want to risk publishing a title that has no hype on a platform with a low user base.

That sounds plausible to me, although Microsoft could have had something to do with this as well since it doesn't look very good for Sony in the eyes of the industry at large. I'm pretty certain your average consumer won't care, although depending on how well the game does it could end up being a big deal after it hits retail.

Probably some combination of the two, plus convenient excuse.

1. Not a lot of PS3 sold = not a lot of incentive to work on it
2. Engine probably working but QA is a lot of work, regardless.
3. See #1
4. "I know, lets blame it on Sony's engine."

So Sony doesn't have the numbers to match their smack talk, and developers are calling Sony on it. Strictly a business decision if you ask me.

P.S. Business decision might also mean "Sony's going to pay for our QA if they want this thing out."

All just outside speculation, I got no insider knowledge anywhere.

360 = easier to develop for, bigger install base
PS3 = harder to develop for, smaller install base

Easy math to me. =x

I have to laugh at that idea a litttle.
A) MS and Koei haven't been close in the past (I could believe Capcom or some other company with better links to MS)
B) Why do that with a little game like this one? Why not grab a bigger title as an exclusive?

Another one bites the dust. I'm glad to be a 360 owner.

Funny, I went back to dig up some previous (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14263&page=2&pp=40) Fatal Inertia threads (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16110&page=1) on EvAv. Interesting to read back into time.

This one is a keeper:
I think many people are waiting for the goods to be delivered. The most expensive most powerful system should show it, and the PS3 has shown off some great potential, but nothing concrete yet. Give it some time, and if this fall we're not seeing an improvement in quality, then people have every right to throw up a red flag.Hey, Fall came and went as did Spring, and the PS3 isn't showing off the goods yet. Time to throw up a red flag and demand more from Sony yet?

People have been giving Sony the benefit of the doubt for too long.

Fair enough, but it was just an idea.

I would imagine it's cheaper to get exclusivity for an lesser anticipated game than a greater one.

I'm not really sure how you came to the conclusion of Microsoft having links to any company or none to another, but whatever.

Fatal Enertia didn't look all that amazing from early trailers. If if jumps to Xbox 360, hopefully a demo could be made available.

I wasn't bagging on you at all. It's just funny that we see Mircosoft as a monster hiding under Sony's bed - poping out to cause problems and then running off to hide. After how they handled O/S, they deserve to be looked at that way.

By 'links' I'm talking about how folks like Capcom, Bioware and Epic. All three talk about a 'special' relationship with Microsoft, all three have put out MS exclusives.
Microsoft and Koei haven't been close in the past - if they have been won over by MS, then they have kept their mouthes shut.

Hey this is good news. Maybe we can get Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Nobunaga's Ambition! I loved playing those games... ( i need a refresher.. which one was turn based strategy?)

I wouldn't mind playing a new version of RotTK for the 360.

Or maybe a new entry in the Brandish series?

PS3 is dead in the water...selling 80k for the last 2 months is a joke...game devs see this and have to decide if it is really worth it. Seems like most just decide to make their games multiplatform...these guys just decided to scrap the ps3 completely.
You can't blame them can you?

So the question has to be asked, when is the non-stop bad press gonna stop raining down on Sony? It just seems bad, bad, bad with a side of horrible in their camp right now.

the PS3 will be fine when the general public catches up with its leap in tech. i think they gave too many people what they don't need.... yet.

christmas 2008 will belong to sony.

meh, just throwing it out there.

i really think the PS3 is pretty future-proof and that an exclusive or two will sway people a lot more than most of you think...

i.e. the next FF/GT will sell more PS3s than expected.

and when it gets a price drop and a revision - it'll sell more then too. i just can't see the PS3 going the way of the dreamcast this gen.

If PS3 does indeed take off XMas 2008 and 2009.... MS and Nintendo will probably start demoing the next gen of their machines ;) Sony needs to start selling sooner. Early 2008 would be a good start... maybe they will catch up early 2009.

I've been wondering how Nintendo will handle the next gen lately.
Perhaps they will release another lower tech device in 09 of approx xbox 360 power, but allow you to use your existing Wii controller to keep the price down?

Either way, I think Sony lost the ps3 battle but are winning the Blu-ray war. and that's all that mattered to them this generation.

Well, it might. Or possibly Christmas 2009. Either way, why buy it now? Buy a 360 or a Wii, and play their games for the next few years until Sony delivers their unique games.

absolutely. there is no sane reason to go out and plunk down the near $1000 it takes to buy one right now.
