According to EA.com (http://www.eagames.com/), a Battlefield 2 patch (http://www.eagames.com/official/battlefield/battlefield2/us/editorial.jsp?src=communityupdate_063005) is expected next week. The following are some of the problems that are being addressed:
-Fixed issues that caused the Multiplayer Browser to become unresponsive.
We've added some new functionality and buttons to the Multiplayer Browser that make finding an open game of Battlefield 2 much, much easier. Issues users have encountered involving zero ping servers or browser hangs have all be addressed.
-Fixed an issue where some game controls were not available to be rebound within the Options menu.
Some functions previously were not available to be rebound in the Controls Options menus. These items have been added to make rebinding of functions much easier.
-Fixed a crash with rebinding LMB
Users who rebind the Left Mouse Button to "Move forward" rejoice!
Thanks to Shacknews (http://www.shacknews.com/) for the heads up.
Excellent! And now that it's payday I can go buy this game.

I would like a fix to add a decent single player game mode :)

I really hope they add support for a +connect command-line option as well so that I can just use All-Seeing Eye instead of the in-game server browser.

They may aswell just make a seperate single player game instead of tacking on the single player element to this multiplayer game.

I played single player one time because I was bored and wanted to see the AI. I ran to an objective, ducked behind a wall and waited for any passers-by. A minute later I got bored and walked around the wall to find the entire opposing team standing there shooting at the wall I was behind. I proceded to kill all 8 of them and vow never to play single player again.

Well, now they need to add a
Friends list
Favorites list
Fix the red friednly bug
Fix the punish system
Fix the laggy ranked servers
Fix the CTD if you accidentally hit a button at the exact time the round ends
I love BF2, if is wonderfully fun. If they get these issues solved it will only make the game even better.
And to those complaining about the single player experience, I am sorry but if you bought BF2 for it's single player mode then "What were you thinking??" The Battlefield series has always been a multiplayer game, IMO they should have scraped the single player portion and expanded on the MP side of the game or tested for bugs, etc...

I got it for the multi, but they are times when you cannot go online, when you really want to play, or just want to have a general mess about, and the single player mode features a complete lack of options to do that, its more just like a instant action feature, but of course its mostly online, I just wouldn't mind some options for the single player mode thats all :)

Wow, that sure didn't take long
Here would be my list of changes:
-Add a favorites list.
-Make it clear immediately that you're looking at a friendly unit so I stop trying to "spot" and shoot my own teammates.
-Make it possible to vote to kick/mutiny without 70% of all players on both teams voting for it.
-Make it so if you teamkill and are forgiven it doesn't detract from your rank.
-Make it a lot more difficult to run over your teammates.
-Provide a commander view where he can tell which units are which class rather then just a bunch of little pointy circles.
-Allow the commander to give orders to individual units rather than squads or force people to join squads who aren't assigned.
-Fix the delay on the secondary missle on the attack chopper so it's actually possible to use.

I'm getting a problem where as soon as I enter a game, it virtually locks up. While I can hear the audio and see movement, it does not accept any input from my keyboard or mouse. I downloaded new mouse drivers and reinstalled the game, and I still get the problem. The odd thing is that it worked fine for a week before I got this problem. I emailed tech support, and they blew me off because I run windows 2k. Anyone experience this problem, or know any sort of fix?

I find myself spending a decent amount of time in single-player as well - it's as good a way as any to learn the maps, practice with vehicles, etc, so that you're not completely useless when you join online games.
The above poster is right about the complete lack of options. I'd like to be able to play a full 64-player, full-size map in single player without having to edit configs or otherwise mess with the game. The game's great other than that, but it bothers me that they actually dropped features from the single-player side.
Where's the best deal online for BF2? Like the OP said, it's payday, damnit! I can't fly for shit, but I'm one hell of a gunner/copilot. I noticed the delay with the attack helicopter's ATG missiles as well. The other thing I don't like is if you use anything but the default camera, you don't get to see teammates names at all.

The browser is the main problem I have with the game at this point, if they can fix that, I'll be happy.
And yeah, what is up with that wierd delay on the AtG missile for the attack heli? I swear you have to click twice or something to be able to use it.
So far my favorite thing from the demo has been cruising along in the Su as a copilot, raining down AtG pain on any poor bastards below. The annoying thing is the monitor is black and white, and it never draws the friendly indicators in time!! I know it's for realism, and now I REALLY understand how those unfortunate friendly fire incidents happen. Good thing this is only a game. Because I, too, have made canada my bitch inadvertinately.
I managed to pick up BF2 from newegg for 46 bucks. And a DVD burner.. and some skittles. Goddamn I love newegg.

I agree that I'd have liked to see more SP variety. Bots are dumb but useful when you want to goof off or practice. But what I really miss are the COOP and CTF gametypes. It was entertaining to get a couple friends together and do three versus a whole swarm of bots in coop mode. And I've always enjoyed a good CTF match more than the standard conquest mode. I'd love to see these things fixed in future patches, but I think for the time being it's more important they just hammer out all the bugs.
Single Player for the BF series was, and always will be, a joke. The only thing it's good for is practicing your vehicle techniques. Artillery, Airplanes, etc. As for the menus, I have no freaking idea what the hell went wrong with those. You'd think at some point, during a meeting, SOMEONE would have mentioned, "Hey, it takes longer to open the menu than it does to load a map. That's kind of stupid.", but nobody did. Helis and Planes still feel freaking tough as hell. I'm a crack shot with those APCs, and those 20mm cannons shouldn't have as much trouble shooting down those helis as they do.
It sucks that they yanked CTF mode. CTF was awesome in BF1942. I can only imagine it being even more badass with a squad involved. As it stands, the public servers are completely hit and miss. Sometimes I end up with an awesome squad, sometimes I end up with a bunch of crack addled monkeys. Sadly, it's far too often I end up with a bunch of crack addled monkeys, instead of a good squad. And climbing into a chopper or a jet to be gunner for someone I don't know always gives me a heart attack during those first 10 or 15 seconds, where you don't know if the pilot knows how to fly or not.
If anyone knows of any good servers, or anyone looking for a good gunner/copilot (I'm also a pretty good CQC and teamplayer), hit me up with a PM. I'm looking for a regular squad to roll with. :)

It's great to see people making light of real-life friendly fire instances.
Anyway, I'm just curious who has bought this game.
The demo pretty much drove me away - this patch fixes about 10% of the problems I had; the lag issues will stay I assume, and the many problems added above will stay as well.
The friendly-fire system of this game is terrible. Being punished for someone walking into your claymore is absolutely retarded.
-Fix the delay on the secondary missle on the attack chopper so it's actually possible to use.
You need to practice more and get a better pilot who can line up shots for you. I can lay waste to just about anything with that missile.

Apart from the stuff that have already been mentioned, i'd like to see who are on board my vehicle, and preferably a seperate button to speak only to them.
