CVG is hosting some newly released screenshots (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=167055) from Condemned 2.

In the sequel, in development for PS3 and Xbox 360, you jump back into the shoes of Ethan Thomas, former Serial Crimes Unit investigator who's been called back to duty to track down his missing partner and to investigate more serial killer nastiness.
Condemned 2 is looking at a Q1 2008 release.

I loved the first Condemned and have to agree that these are "early" screenshots but am I the only one saying, "Meh"?

There are only two of us in this thread so far, and I didn't say 'meh', so:

So far, yes, you are.

"Meh" and "Condemned screenshots" don't belong in the same sentence. Wait till you see the bump mapping on the dead pigeons to judge!

Doesnt bother me if its anything like the first game.

lol I should clarify that I don't think the game itself will be "meh" but that the screenshots they've released were "meh". There's nothing exciting, new or interesting about them.

There's really nothing to see in these screen shots. It's kind of hard to make a judgment call one way or the other.

True the selection of screenshots could be more engaging. I'm sure we will get some 'non-meh' screenshots at some point.

Wow, really thought this was a sequel to that movie with Stone Cold/that rip-off of Battle Royale. I needs me some breakfast.\

Anyway, hooray for this Condemned 2! I never actually played the first, I didn't own a 360 then and I never thought to buy Condemned since getting one, but I was actually entertained by watching my roommate play it. Mostly because it scared the crap out of him and that was hillarious to me.

"I never actually played the first"

Oh dear. Back to the class for you. In my 20 years of gaming this is the one that had me squirming in my sofa. Buy it and be scared out of your pants. Lights off...surround sound. Hehee......

Enjoyed the first one. It is not on the top of my Scary Game-list, but it is definetly on it. A sequel is most welcome :)

The school level and the burned-up library in the first one gave me the creeps.

Good graphics in the 2nd one would be nice but as long as they can make more eerie levels then I'd be fine with that.

Condemned was the first game that I had to take short breaks while playing it because of all scary crap coming at you.

As long as the sound design is just as good or better. I loved being able to hear the screaming maniac in the next room coming after me on the surround channels. I would go from being pretty confident about the pipe I just ripped of the wall to being scared shitless about what the crazy was bringing. That was also always the point when my son went from sitting next to me, to sitting on me.

I dunno. The first one just didn't do anything for me. It seems that I'm unusual in that regard, too.

I think the problem is that the screens just don't capture the ambiance of the game, which, if it's anything like the first (well, duh!) will focus on dark and/or badly lit areas. Truth be told, dark and/or badly lit areas just don't look that great in stills and while what we saw pending the release of the first game was fairly impressive, visually there have been a good number of other titles which simply look much, much better.

I agree that the screenshots don't really have anything particularly thrilling in them, bug god-damn do they look good.

Instead of saying meh, I'm saying kick ass and what the hell is that?

Meh?

I'm with sandman.

This is sick.

And Slack3r...man, I'm disappointed. All this time I've thought you had great taste, and now this?!

Granted, I never made it that far into the game, but what I played just didn't grab me. I really like the concept, but the 'investigative' part of the game just felt gimmicky in execution to me.

I recognize that metal conduit in the 3rd shot. Which has me slightly going 'meh'.

Yeah that was the first thing that struck me too. It is probably just a placer though, it would be really lame to reuse that identical weapon / graphic.

That upside down corpse/mutated zombie being thing looks kickass. Graphics are good enough to me. Being scared by a game is better than cutting edge graphics. Basically, fun is more important. Condemned was a great game with an amazing atmosphere. Heres hoping in the second the level structure is a bit better, I hated having to backtrack to find a shovel in *the darkest corner in the level, basically hidden* that you needed to knock off a lock on a door.

The screens look like the first one and I need more than new levels to buy this.

I really liked the first though - some scary shit! The ending part was a bit weird for my taste. The sounds were extremely well done and reminded me of System Shock 2.

I think the screens are okay. Graphics seem to have improved since the first game, they look nice and dark.

As long as it's as good as the first one, i'm happy :)

(granted, it would be really swell if it were even better then the first one, it was a really well made game imo..)

If those are "meh" then count meh in.

Nah, I played the first one through for about five or six hours and honestly couldn't stand it. It's one of the very few games that I've started that I actually put down and took back. If the second is anything like the first or more of the same, I won't be able to go anywhere near it.

On a related note: those shots didn't necessarily do anything for me, but I will say the first was excellent and I really liked the outside shot, oddly. Good stuff.

the only game since RE and Eternal Darkness to make me jump like a lil bitch when playing

The mannequins in the mall level were frightening, not to mention that scary ass elevator X-mas music to back that level up.

I thought the last two shots captured the mood of the game quite splendidly.

But man, can those be any more neutral?

The first one was my favorite 360 launch title. I'll be buying this on release day.

Been trying to find a copy of the PC version for Condemned 1 lately but no dice. Blah.

Anyone know if this is a new Lithtech engine or a revision of their last? We can probably expect the yet unnamed sequel to Fear to look similar to these screens. Meh indeed. You know, modern tech... 16.7 million distinct colors available... lol

You get a bit tired of the worn-down look of basements and abandoned buildings, even though the texture work is well done. The mall level with the mannequins was indeed worth the price of the game for me. I felt the same way about the eerie funride level in MaxPayne (or was it number 2?).

Those levels kept my interest to finish the games.
Really fantastic work. The ID guys could learn somethin here - they lack creativity/innovation big time (except for the engines offcourse).
