Preview of Rock Band

I'm not sure how much 'new' stuff has been divulged in CVG's Rock Band Preview (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=167004) but it's a pretty good read none-the-less. It's a good summary of what we know so far plus a few gems like:

Game looks to be a lot of fun if you enjoy the genre. Glad to see it will feature a lot of original tunes. As they point out in the article the Guitar Hero 'Killing in the Name' cover was a travesty. I'm looking forward to it but still on the lookout for what the final damage is going to be on my bill at checkout...

Like the parent said - not much new there - except the screenshots. They seem to have jammed the singer's notes and words across the top of the screen - some of the questions regarding how Harmonix would fit 4 fretboards/noteboards across the screen can now be done away with. The article mentions Harmonix denying that the game would cost more than 100 pounds (200 dollars at the moment) is interesting - I wonder if that is game only, game plus one accessory or game plus all accessories.

I read somewhere earlier this week that $200 got you the game, the mic, one guitar, and the drum kit as a package deal. All the accessories could be bought separately as well. I'll see if I can find a link.

Those numbers are based on Gamestop just pulling prices out of their asses so they can have something up on their site.

I'd rather hear some shmuck getting paid to sing the cover of the songs in the game rather than some bozo attempting to with the mic. Hopefully you can keep the original track vocals in the online matches.

Hm the original article apparently had a picture of the guitar... I'm curious to see where the second set of fret buttons are. I suppose they would be inline with the normal five, as they say its for soloing, but I'm scared to think of the possibility of ten buttons in a row when i'm just barely getting the hang of five...

The second set of buttons can be used to do solo sections of hammer-ons and pull-offs without strumming. It will probably mean a lot more in Rock Band than it does in GH. I can't imagine moving my hand up the neck that far in the middle of any GH songs. But with time to set up for it before your Solo(Since RB is less Guitar centric than GH) I guess it could be kinda cool.

The drums are really turning out to be the best instrument. It's the only instrument where you are actually playing a really close approximation of the real thing. Altogether it looks great but I am concerned about the vocals, there's no way to simplify it so that it doesn't sound crappy if you're a bad singer. Ah well, I'm still excited!

Thats what Auto-Tune software does. Although I have no idea how bulky the code is nor how expensive it would be to include. No clue how likely/unlikely it would be for it to make it into Rock Band.

The truth is, 99% of humans can match a pitch. Most people just can't get past their hangups to give their singing voice a chance.
