In what must be a first, a big budget Hollywood movie has opened in New Zealand, Australia and several other countries before being released in the United States! While the foreigners are understandably smug at being given first access to the new Transformers movie, Americans still have a full week to wait.
But all is not lost… A kind, wise and generous Evil Avatar member from New Zealand (me) has kindly written a spoiler-free review after a screening at a preview event. You can check out his unabashed fan-boy ravings under In-House Content Here (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32084)

I think the release thing was done by Spider-Man 3 (well it I guess Tranformers could be the first "good" movie to do this).
Anyway great reviews guys, I'm really pumped to see this.

Great review! I've been really, really.. really worried about how this movie might turn out. The sound of this review has restored a bit of my optimism. I might have to catch this in the theater after all!

I feel I have to do a quick disclaimer to say that although this is definitely my movie of the year (slightly beating out ‘Hot Fuzz’), I don’t not pretend to claim that it will be your movie of the year.
This movie will be different things for different people. For most it will be a fun action movie. For some it will be a great action movie. I suppose that there will be a few for whom this movie is a unholy travesty. And for a few (like myself) it will be a perfect melding of action movie, nostalgia and the toy collection that sits in the back room.
For most people I’d recommend a mood of cautious optimism. That way the movie will either be what you expect, or a happy surprise.

A friend of mine saw it tonight here in the states. Apparently it was a Chevrolet company event, because it was only employees. Her dad works for Chevy and gave her the tickets.

Apart from the premiere at Disneyland, I think we may have gotten the latest Pirates movie a day or so earlier too.
But anyways, I'm off to see Transformers tonight, on Imax! I'm expecting this movie to rock.

I'm gonna wait till someone I know tells me if it rules or sucks. Even then It'll probably just get a DVD rental out of me. I've got burned on Spidey 3, Shrek the turd, and with everything I've seen on Transformers, I'm afraid it'd just be three strikes on my summer movie list. it's ok though, I'll just play catch up on my unfinished games while people go see this.
Also, I'm looking forward to the release so I can people can finally shut up about the damn movie, it's all I've been hearing and I'm burnt out on the fuckin thing just from all the word-of-mouth-hype. It's almost enough to make me want to stick a knitting needle in my ear drums.

Going to see it in 2 hours. Can't wait! I know someone who's seen it twice already today, crazy fuck :p
I heard that Village Cinemas here in Aus aren't going to be playing many sessions because they don't think it will be "popular enough"! School holidays are starting next week, and what do you think all the kids are gonna want to see? Nancy fucking Drew?
i know someone who was invited to the australian premier of transformers by his modelling agency. he decided not to go because he couldn't face the embarrassment and shame of being seen seeing the movie.

It actually gets a (M) rating in New Zealand, which may keep some family types away...

the greatest day for all kiwi's was when the last LOTR movie cleaned up at the oscars.

I keep wondering if folk in the US will 'get' the new comedy show they have going.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but this US citizen certainly "gets" them; I think Jemaine & Bret are funny as hell.

Well, then I'm glad that New Zealand has been able to export something other then Lord of the Rings and sheep. :D

That is the worst delivery of that joke I've seen.
A farmer from New Zealand is visiting the USA, and is going on a state to state tour in a rented car. On his way through the countryside of Kansas he notices a farmer in the field sexually abusing a sheep. Sickened, he feels a need to intervene and save the helpless animal.
So he goes over to the American farmer and says, “Oi, Mate. Your lively hood depends on that animal. In New Zealand we shear them.”
The American farmer snaps, “I’m not sharing this one, get your own!”

Flight of the Conchords is awesome. I had the song "Business Time" stuck in my head for a good week.

Then he's an idiot, because this movie is absolutely brilliant. The whole cinema was applauding the film when the lights came back on, and the cinema complex was abuzz with people praising it. I for one think that this is the best movie I've seen in years, and lots of people agree.

Strange, that's how I feel about your whining about the movie ;)
