From http://www.blizzard.com/

The Terran, Protoss and Zerg are out in force once again!

StarCraft has been updated with the newly released patch 1.13. This revision addresses a few well-known bugs that were used to perform in-game exploits, corrects display issues with the Korean Font and makes adjustments to the Player's in-game minimap. To see a copy of the patch notes, please click here (http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=msc01796p).

We hope this patch makes battling within the StarCraft universe a little more fun, so feel free to join Battle.net once again to reengage in the epic struggle between the Terran, Protoss and Zerg!Anyone still playing this one? In the classic gaming category, I'm playing Quake II and TA: Kingdoms.

I see this broken out sometimes in lan parties. Especially on college lab computers where the video card is more or less non-existant.

Plus there is always Project Revolution (http://revolution.wc3campaigns.com/index.php).

I play this on my work laptop. It still holds up quite well, and is my all-time favorite RTS.

Blizzard does kick ass for supporting this. I was playing Dark Reign when this came out and Activision and Pandemic didnt just abandon the community, they shut down the servers and allowed the game to die by not patching it for windows XP. There is an XP work around but it doesnt matter because you cant even connect with the in game browser. That was a close knit community that had their lines just cut one day. I wish I would have known that when I was active, I would have switched to SC.

Well, I think Starcraft is still pretty popular in Korea, so I'd imagine they're the primary reason behind this patch.

Yea, I just stopped by my old starcraft mapper community to say hi last week.

I was pleasantly surprised that somebody ported the "aeon of strife" style map over to wc3, and apparently it's pretty popular. I made the first-ever aeon of strife in my sc days.

Haven't you heard about starcraft: ghost?

...sorry.

This is one of those games that I absolutely love, but totally suck at. It's a shame.

This is pretty much the only RTS i'll play.
and yes it's usually always a hit at LAN parties.

I stil play it with friends too. It's pure excellence.

Every game you feel like on a rollercoaster ride. Just got to do more in less time. The strategic options are also exremely varied and balanced.

I played alot of WC3, but in the end the strategies weren't really varied. If you screwed up a little in WC3 you had lost the game (heroes getting more powerful etc.)
In SC it seems you always have a small chance for a comeback and the counter system really works like it should. Every tactic has it flaws and if you loose in SC it is entirely your own shortcoming. In WC3 alot of simple strategies to perfom required masterful micro-management to beat. I never feel that imbalance in SC.

Starcraft: Ghost is not a sequel! It's a console franchise-sploitation.

We need a new SC.
They need to make SC2 in 3D and with 5.1 surround (need to hear that awesome siegetank!).
And re-do SC1 with 3D graphics to bundle along.
That game would sell until the universe ran out of money.

When Warcraft 3 came out, I wasn't that excited about the game itself, about 100x more excited at the prospect of Starcraft in 3D. This, even tho I did love the original incarnations of Warcraft but for me Starcraft was the first RTS that really sucked me in both single player and multiplayer.

I'm playing Quake II and TA: Kingdoms.[/i]

TA: Kingdoms!? i loved TA so f'n much, but i never got around 2 getting the 'sequel'. hm, might have to see if i can get this. or bust out some TA... wow, actually, that'd look amazing at rediculous res on my 21" monitor :D

i was such a Q1 fanboi, i have a deep-seated loathing of q2, because i deemed it 2 much of a departure (can't even remember why, now), so now, regardless of how good it is, i will probably never play it - the perils of being a fanboi :-/

Agree on that one, dont remember why, might have been the reason that Q2 multiplayer ground my balls to dust with its comperable slow play considiring Q1 is perhaps the most frenzied game so far.

I agree that we need a SC2 already.

With good reason. Starcraft was almost the first RTS to actually put a story into it's single player campain and not just have a losely related string of missions that got harder.

I got pretty excited that they were going to do something when I saw the movie at the end of Warcraft 3 featuring marines and zerglings and hydralisks going at it. But it seems that was just all in good(or bad) fun.

Ha! You know nothing of sucking! I can lose this game in the time most people take to get their first barracks up. :D

I agree with that... from what I've heard it's like Chess over there, the tornaments they hold are like watching people play a flawless symphony. It's not big, it's HUGE. In fact I wonder if people will be upset over this patch, or if it's generally accepted those changes needed to happen

(I played this some over LAN at my old job, I have to admit it still holds it's own and has fantastic balance and gameplay... but I'm a graphics whore so I can only get so excited about a game this old. A purely graphic update might be fun after all this time).

Rest easy, friend, you're not alone. ;)

I still play SC semi-regularly myself. I also suck. But I tend to suck at ALL RTS games, which is aggravating because I enjoy playing them a lot, so it's kind of a masochistic thing I've got going. =P

I'm just terrible at the micro-management and resource gathering aspects, I guess... I'll play any RTS, but I really REALLY appreciate ones like Mechcommander 2 and Dawn of War, where all the resource aspect crap is simplified/abstracted, and in the case of DoW, replenishing troops is a snap.

SC is still THE RTS to compare all other RTS games to. I think part of it's popularity is that it'll run on just about any POS computer these days.

yep, same here. i play DoW against the computer on medium. i tried playing online, but as soon as i left the beginners room, i suddenly realised how bad i actually was. i played WC3 about 3 times, i loved the game, but i would loose every game. even against the computer. ho-hum, i guess i'll just keep sucking at halo2 instead. oh, no, wait...

I find myself firing up XCom at least once a year.
Wish it wasn't such a pain to get Syndicate Wars going.

I don't know if Starsiege counts as classic gaming, but that's what I'm playing now. Trying to beat Prometheus, in fact.

Since WoW just died on me for some reason (my character is stuck in a land where he can't see anything but the swirly background of death) and it'll be a few days before the GMs even email me, I'm going to dig something up and finish it. I'm sad though as I just got back into WoW after stopping to finish school looking forward to really adventuring the hell out of it.

Oh well. Perhaps I should boot up some Fallout.

I still play this game as an instrcutor. I have been asked multiple times to play pre-teens (10-12) and give them an intro to RTS games. Their parents wnats them to think beyond the FPS mode and this is the best way to introduce tactical planning.

And yes once they get a few games under their belt, they kick my ass. Age and wisdom does not beat the zergling rush by a 10 yr. old!

Ok, the developers that made the 1.13 patch need to be working on 2.0 now...
