Sony's PSP may soon get a boost if this Gamegossip story (http://www.gamegossip.com/comment.php?id=13874) bodes true. EA looks to be developing a FinalFantasy Tactics type clone (maybe) set in the Lord of the Rings universe. Only time will tell what this title brings.

I'm not a big fan of games based on the Lord of the Rings franchise but I'm sure the PSP could use a few more games.

Do you hear it? The sound of a franchise being milked dry of substance is deafening.
However, I loves me some tactics games so even a half-assed effort has a chance at getting my dollar.

Yay, another EA unoriginal retread!

I'm curious if this turns out to be true if it would be anything like Final Fantasy Tactics. Now that would be cool. However if it turns out to be a remake of Third Age, uh, bad idea.

Screw that, take the Star War: Clone Wars cartoon and jam it into a full on TBS war game akin to Warhammer 40k.

Gak!
Just like the Lord of the Rings game for the GBA was a terrible clone of Fire Emblem, and the third age on consoles was a terrible clone of Final Fantasy, this will be a terrible clone of FF Tactics.
Also to note: EA only owns the rights to make games off of the movies, not the books. If something happened in the books but didn't appear in the films (a lot) then it can't show up in the games. EA was already fined for this.
Does EA not have an original thought in the entire corporation? How many other good games can they slap some licensed material on? Maybe they can't think of any ideas cause they are too busy swimming in all their money and screwing over their employees.
Expect another lifeless husk of a game.

I just want to point out I hate when other sites post news and claim it as their own. That is all.

Speaking of loading things onto the PSP, I just saw THIS over at Kotaku.

It is a vending machine that allows you to buy movies for the GBA and write them to flash cards. I dunno about you, but this makes a crapload more sense than buying a UMD for $20.
Why didn't Sony introduce a pay-per-download service for movies on the PSP instead of using UMDs? It would have been cheaper for them and made them more money too.
Probably front-page newsworthy.

Didn't hear about that, what were they fined for?

you mean the PSP could use a few good games. But this is EA were talking about so the game will probably be average at best mixed with cheesy clips from the films.

Is it really fair to say this game is going to be sucky on just rumors and your bizarre opinions?

I think you can base it on history: the history of EA remaking other games with new brands slapped on the top.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on EA.
