A lot of rumors have been swirling around Will Wright's Spore, specifically that it had been delayed until 2009. Well Next Generation (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=6083&Itemid=2) has the real scoop on this factually challenged story. There seems to be some misinformation flying around,” explained a rep in a phone interview. “Nothing’s changed since our call on May 8, where [CEO] John Riccitello specifically said that we were moving Spore from fiscal ’08 to early fiscal ’09."
EA's fiscal 2009 runs from April 2008 through March 2009Apparently a recent financial statment included this information, but some sources either missed or ignored the 'fiscal year 2009' portion of the statment and represented it as a stealth announcement that Spore was being delayed until calendar year 2009. So there you have it. Spore is still on track for a 2008 release. At least for now.

That's interesting, because while the game is technically scheduled for next year it's also scheduled for 2009 as well. As far as I'm concerned it may as well be coming out in March '09 anyhow, but most likely they'll release is fall of 2008 in the end.

It's still a long freaking time away for a game that looks done.

And this is why the previous thread on this topic was deleted. Plus the subsequent follow-up "why was my thread deleted" thread, which was, well, deleted.

Why do game companies even release game pictures/movies when they are YEARS away from completion...
It just makes me hate the game more.. and bit-torrent it
*Disclaimer - i dont condone the use of bit-torrent for illegal activities....
*Clause - unless the publisher plays with emotions and makes a game for 2+ years

I can't wait until a firm release date is announced so I can plan my vacation around it...

LOOKS done, but when you think about it, there's not really much meat to the game as it stood at GDC last year.
I'm gutted that it's still so far from release, but at the same time part of me is pleased and hoping they'll use it to add more than just a cool evolution sandbox game.

IIRC they first showed it at GDC 05.
So four years ain't so bad. It just seems worse than DNF because people actually want to play it. And it looks better and better every time they show it.

And this is why I'm always right, except when I'm wrong, which never happens.

The last time I heard about this title from someone at Maxis, this was the essential problem with Spore - the "game" part of the game was still missing.

Hmm, I hope Spore isn't the next Black & White, because this theme is sure starting to sound similar.

Glad to hear it was not delayed. Did the people making the DNF comments even read the post?
