The Rock Band guitar looks very nice, just like a real guitar. I bet it's going to cost a lot more than the Guitar Hero 3 guitar, because it has all those extra buttons and the guitar doesn't look so cheap.

It's not a Les Paul, but it will due.

It will be $79.99 on the Xbox 360 and $59.99 on the PS3. The bundle will be $199.99 for either system.

I agree that it looks fantastic. Activision might want to go back to the drawing board with their wireless controller - it looks like a cheap toy compared to this.

Off the Hizzle fo' shizzle. Good effort though.

$20 extra for the 360 version? That shit better be wireless... And rechargable.

Seeing that makes me wonder if you'd not be better off just getting a real guitar and learning how to play?

And on what level would the two be the same? I really don't know why people keep comparing the two; they're not the same thing at all, the comparison just doesn't need to be there, especially not after it's been run through by the same people again and again.

The controller is looking very nice; it's a shame about the GH2 controller for the 360, and the soon to be wireless Gibson Les Paul for GH3 too, because I really don't know how many guitar controllers I can take. I've already got three, another two really is going over the top.

According to the July issue of GI, the 360's X-plorer guitar will work with Rock Band. Still, it'll be hard not to buy one of these fenders.

Personally I still want a firebird.

Damn... assuming all goes smoothly with it's launch, I may have to pick up a copy of Rock Band with the guitar instead of just Rock Band on it's own, even if I don't have anyone else to play with. That thing looks awesome, I especially like how they hid the colors of the buttons on the neck.

Thanks dude. I'm definitely getting Rock Band for the drums; i've been wanting to learn how to play and apparently the expert setting of the game will feature the actual drumpatterns of the song. How sweet it is!

Yeah, you can actually read the quote in the picture (gotta squint!) where they say if you can play on hard or expert you will be able to literally get up from the Rock Band drum, sit at a real drum kit for the first time in your life, and be able to play something.

Very nice guitar. I'm only concerned everyone is going to get that instrument only. Or the drums, there'll be no singers out there. At least, none willing to play multiplayer.

This is probably the ultimate videogame payoff. Getting an actual real-life skill out of it.

I like what they did with the buttons by having them on the side, so if you DO look down you can easily see the colors. No point in having the colors on teh face of the guitar.

I have lots of trouble believing MS would let that slide. I feel like they'd sooner subsidize the $20 difference themselves.

Didn't the last story about Rock Band (on IGN, I think) say something about the MS guitars requiring special hardware for the wireless, while the PS3 guitars did not? Hard to imagine it'd be a $20 difference though...

NeoSuplex

I doubt the price difference is because of wire. For one, the PS3 probably doesn't have a wired version since even the 3rd Party stuff I've seen is Bluetooth. As for the 360, the only way they'll get wireless is if there's a USB dongle or MS makes the Gutars themselves.

Either way, if there's no access to MS's Wireless tech, the 360 version is automatically hamstrung. There are only 2 USB ports on the 360 (3 if you count the back port) meaning full Rock Bands are online only. This is one game where the 360 just won't do the expierience as much justice as the PS3.
Luckily for me, I can barely stand the sound of rock music. UNAFFECTED!

Noooooot quite. MS is loosening up on the control of their wireless. The GHIII Les Paul will be using the official MS wireless system and I'll bet dollars to donuts Rock Band's getting the same. Now the drums? Yeah, that might have to be wired.

It just looks a little off because it's from the latest Game Informer, but without the background of the page. I can assure you the pic is very much the real thing as I'm staring at the exact pic, background different of course, in the magazine right now.

If everything does need to be plugged in via USB, why couldn't the 360 just have some kind of multitap USB adapter? Sing Star for the PS2 hooks up via USB. One adapter (plugged into one USB port), two mics. Works fine there, why not here?

Not unless you can find a way to add five more buttons.
Don't both sets of frets work like the single set on GH controllers? The second, higher fret set is just for when you want to shred really hard, right? I don't think you're required to use them during solos. But it certainly makes you more awesome. :D

The way the article reads using the upper fret buttons is entirely optional, and the article does say the X-plorer will still be usable. Those extra five can be used for solos with increased hammer-on and pull-off ability and without strumming.

Setebos: Given that the 5 extra buttons are identical to the original 5, and that it's been made clear that at no time do you have to use all 10 at once... I'm fairly certain that those with an X-Plorer will have no qualms with Rock Band. However Harmonix wants to handle it, the X-Plorer has the necessary tools for the extra parts.

Too bad the X-Plorer doesn't have a full range of effects like the new guitar does...

Well people might not just care about playing a real guitar but just want the feeling of playing a rock song without spending years learning. Many people don't have the patience to learn the guitar and this is the next best thing.

What would be really cool is if I could hook up a real guitar and jam along with friends using the rockband instruments.

This is how I feel about your question:

http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comic.php?d=20070509

Up until that article and those pics, I was thinking "GH3 will be enough for me, I can hold off on Rock Band." I'll still probably get GH3, but Rock Band will be purchased first.

Question. What is in the bundle for $199? I hope that includes more than the guitar and the game, or else that makes the game $140 alone on the PS3.

Also, I believe any standard USB 2.0 hub works as a multitap of sorts on the 360.

I keep seeing this quote everywhere. While I believe the drums will be much closer to playing the real instrument than the guitar, technique is extremely important in drumming and that's not something you learn from drum pads.

I'd guess 1x Game, 1x Guitar, 1x Drums, 1x Microphone. Anybody playing Bass better bring his own Guitar.

Another thing I would mention is that the guitar is no longer 1/2 size of an actual guitar but rather 3/4 size now. It's a noticeable difference when someone is holding onto it and looking less of a fool.

The reason I mentioned getting a real guitar, is I tried GH2 on the 360 at a store, and it was kicking my ass hard! Seems to take a fair bit of timing and skill to be good at the GH games, and it would not be too far a stretch to get a real one and put the time and effort there.

Oh and the drum kit needs more cowbell!

Takes a bit of timing and skill to be good at Ninja Gaiden too... Where's my Katana?

As for a USB Hub, is it certain that the 360 can handle all of that Power Wise? The MIC might not be much, but I imagine the drums and axes take a fair bit of juice.

I'd have thought the microphones would take up the most, due to the use of a small electromagnetic field (Depends on microphone type, from what I've heard. Dynamic mic's don't use power?). Even if it does use power for the mic, it'll be negligible. The drum kit... well, it depends how complex they make it really, but I can't see them all stripping out as much power as it takes to charge 2 battery packs and run a HD DVD drive, which I've done before. The Guitars will draw as much power as is needed for the ring of light (Next to nothing), and that'll be almost it. The power needed to make the buttons work is tiny.
