Remember when Immersion, creaters of rumble, filed suit against everyone for using their technology? It caused such a fuss that Microsoft and Nintendo immediately settled, while Sony's subborness birthed the SIXAXIS.
It seems Immersion isn't living up to their end of Microsoft's bargain, as Microsoft has now filed suit against them.
Apparently, another part of the settlement also stated that Immersion would pay Microsoft "based on certain business and IP licensing arrangements." We're not exactly sure what those arrangements are, but according to Microsoft, Immersion is not living up to its end of the bargain. Hence, a suit has been filed.

Sony paid out to Immersion, MS didn't get their piece of the pie. MS sues. And the world keeps spinning on.

My understanding was that Nintendo didn't have to settle, as their tech was different than the rumble Sony or MS uses.

You know, on GS comments people actually posted that "I hope MS loses rumble HAHAHA". Anyway, in short I hate gamespot.

I believe that is true.

As much as I supported Immersion in their suits, I can't help but applaud MS for having the cohones to sue Immersion when they step out of the line.

Uh, what cojones? MS can sue any company, any time, pretty much without fear.

IIRC, suing a company you just settled with is usually looked on with suspicion by the courts, and MS always has a couple points against them in business courts to start out with.

I'm not sure if anyone has actually checked out the immersion patent. It's completely bogus. How is it fucking non-obvoius that a rotating system that is unevenly weighted will vibrate?
I goddamn hate our patent system.

To be fair, they also hold the patent for Modern Physics. I wouldn't type so loud if you know what's good for ya...
Also, I completely agree.

I thought it was all about using twin motors, I assume it counts as non-obvious because the nintendo controllers (and the dreamcast) used a different method to produce their rumble.

I think that cat is already out of the bag Henry.
Unless a future firmware update removes it..
Quick - everyone buy a 360 now before they lose the hardware emul..er ..rumble!

Even then, using the resonance between the two vibrations is still obvious to anyone who took physics in High School.
I propose a new rule: If someone could learn how your "invention" works in the course of normal schooling, it's not up for patenting.
