The Armchair Empire has posted an interview (http://www.armchairempire.com/Interviews/historicanada.htm) with Nathon Gunn of Bitcasters discussing the company's upcoming Canadian history game, HistoriCanada, that will be running on a modded version of Civilization III, and be used in Canadian high schools.
AE: Will this mod play like a typical round of Civilization, or did you need to make any changes to the gameplay in Civilization III in order for this mod to be used in a school setting?
NG: It will play like normal Civilization gameplay, but we contextualized everything with unique civilopedia entries from the Canadian Encyclopaedia and a website with videos and other information from historical experts, including lesson plans for teachers.

As long as I can recruit beavers and mount rockets on them, I'm happy :)
Seriously though, I think it's not a bad idea. I picked up a LOT of interesting tidbits on world history back in the day when I played Civ and think that games like it and Sim City get kids to learn things without even realizing it. And Canadian history is actually quite interesting... it's just rarely portrayed as such.

Having this is schools to teach history is an awesome idea. I think it's fucking great. I remember some of the educational games I played when I was a kid, and they did work. It's simply easier to memorize facts when it's in the context of a game.

I think its a retarded idea seeing as my tax money went into it I'm allowed to be totally pissed, if schools teach with this, thats cash in Sid's already bulging pocket, and thats just fucked.
We(canucks) paid for it already now make it 100% free you worthless cunts. At least America's Army propaganda was 100% free.

I wasn't aware we judged the value of something based on how much money it's already made. Damn that Sid for providing an appropriate product to use to educate with, damn him straight to hell!

Naturally, as soon as I leave the public education system they start doing something interesting.

I like the idea, it makes learning fun for some people. I liked Canadian History classes in school, but would have liked this as well. I did download the extras but haven't played them yet.

Canadian History? You mean the same country with geese and owls on their money?
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
In seriousness, Canada is great place (I've vacationed there) and they actually have a fairly interesting history.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!I wish. I miss the good ol' days when we had refineries and nature scenes on our money. Heck, even the bird bills weren't bad. I don't particularly care for the current bills, esp. the canoe filled with garden gnomes (http://www.worldpapermoney.org/images/canada103-2004r.JPG)on the back of the $20 bill.
And I miss the Newfie Firing Squad (http://www.worldpapermoney.org/images/canada90b-1975r.jpg) on the $50...
I actually grew up in the town where the refinery on the old, old $10 bill (http://www.worldpapermoney.org/images/canada88c-1971r.jpg)came from.
In seriousness, Canada is great place (I've vacationed there) and they actually have a fairly interesting history.Esp. the part about us (as British citizens at the time) burning down the White House (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burning_of_Washington) during the War of 1812. Take that!
