Microsoft and Bizarre have just released a new video (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/news/2007/0615-pgr4pilesonthesnow.htm) for Project Gotham Racing 4. Following the previous video which showed off rain in engine, the new video shows off snow.
Damn, I have a hard enough time driving when it's dry in PGR, now they are going to make it snowy.

Next up : Lava, Jungle, and Haunted House levels. Sorry, I couldn't resist. ;)

Come on, Gorvi. When Sony starts doing this with their racers, you'll trumpet it.
/Sony may have already done this. I don't know.

Don't worry once Sony see's the beauty of this snow they will borrow some of the video/screeens and label them "Gran Turisimo 5" and post it on their website

Oh, hell no. Well, maybe if its Wipeout, but I completely don't care about realistic racers anymore, Gran Turismo included.
That was a joke anyway, it's just the first thing that popped into my head when I saw that they'd have snow. Sorta the old platformer stereotype of snow level, desert level, jungle level, laval level, etc... :p

I've got to admit that it looks pretty impressive, but racing in snow is really gimmicky. You wouldn't do it in real life at all. I know the argument can be made that "you wouldn't really be able to race an Enzo through downtown Tokyo either" but racing high-end supercars through extreme weather conditions is so far off from reality that there's no basis of comparison. Who's to say if the physics and drive quality are close to the truth in that scenario? I'd bet most (if not all) of the real-life Enzo owners couldn't tell you what driving that car in snow is like.

Telefrog, does it really matter? I imagine the fun-factor of this will be huge.

A hard time driving in PGR3? Jeez don't pick up Forza then. :)

Yes, because no one would possibly race in poor weather.

Besides, this is PGR, not GT or Forza. PGR is NOT a simulation racer. It's got it's own physics that are more "sim" style than, let's say, wipeout or mario cart, but PGR is definitely not a sim like GT or Forza, so they won't have to be "spot on" with thier physics.

Was there really a clamor for racing in snow? I live in Detroit, so I know what driving in snow is like. It sucks. I definitely don't want to try to race in the f'ing snow.

Thanks, but I already know about ice racing. You'll note that I specifically was talking about the combination of $250,000 supercars in extreme weather which is completely a fantasy.
Look, this may be fun - I don't have any comment about the inherent "fun" of sliding around in a Z06. My issue is that the PGR series is getting more fantasy based with each iteration. Soon, it will feature racing near lava, or through giant factories.
Wow, graphics look pretty awesome?

The videos sure look awesome but I have to point out one thing that made me laugh...in the video with the snowy track they had a BMW M5 passing a Subrau STi in the corners.
Hmmmm....RWD vs. AWD in the snow. Who would be faster??? ;)
Needless to say they need to work a bit better on their traction model!

The PGR series started out being completely fantasy based in the very first game, so what's the problem if they want to go even further in that direction? One of the best things about racing games is that they let you do things you would only ever dream of in real life.
Racing near lava and through giant factories was great fun in NFS:HS and PU respectively.
For realistic driving conditions, we can easily just go outside and sit in traffic.

Please refrain from using those two in same sentence in the future, thank you.

And quarter-million dollar cars racing down city streets isn't?
Besides, my father talks about when he lived up north and ran ghymkhanas on frozen over lakes. One year a guy in his group lost a brand new 911 when the ice gave up. So it's not like nobody is crazy enough to try this in an expensive car.

I am excited. I still hope that pgr4 will be as good as 2 was. Bring back the showroom dammit.

When I first moved to SC, there was a quarter inch (perhaps even less...a dusting) of snow in nearby Columbia and 200 people had (non-fatal) accidents.
Hahahahaha! N00b Southerners and snow! :D

I have a dream. I dream that they bring PGR2 back with this new graphic engine. Add a few more cities to it.
Add a few more car classes, and a few more cars to each existing class, and perhaps spend some time balancing the cars out a little better. The multiplayer can go unchanged as far as I'm concerned.
PGR3 took all the charm that 2 had and tossed it out the window. The tracks were boring and unmemorable, and consisted of too many straight lines. The cars lacked the charm of the first game, and the few classes there were had no real balance. The multiplayer was... just... gah... Singleplayer was dumbed down incredibly, I managed to get all platinums without even breaking a sweat, or come up with any new creatively vulgar phrases, to express my frustration.
The idea of snow racing appeals to me, especially on a track like the Nurburgring. I can't say I'd want to race an Enzo on it, but any kind of lower car class would be great fun. SUVs in the snow, what could be better?

Holy shit that looks scary as hell! I grew up in snowy driving conditions, and I can tell you first hand how dangerous and scary driving even 50 MPH in a snow storm can be. But at racing speeds? That might be too much for my poor nerves to handle.
That vid did get me a lil interested in the game... but I'll probably stick with Forza 2.

Thinking about it though, nobody is going to really use this anyway. How often did anyone race in the rain in the other games? Very rarely, more as kind of a fun distraction than anything.
I just pray they don't add upgrades and tuning to the game. As much as I love Forza, the best car almost always wins. The tracks are designed in such a way that even a bad driver with more acceleration and top speed will usually beat a better driver with a slower car.

Fucking awesome! I'm probably the only one here... but I love snow. Driving through it will be badass... and probably a sweet way to earn more kudos sliding around on the ice. :D

The thing is, it's PGR4.. it's an arcade racer. You can do a lot of things in it that you wouldn't/couldn't do in real life. If you want a straight sim, see Forza 2. No snow racing there. :)

I'd totally use it. I hope they make weather control an option. I'd love to race all the different tracks in snowy conditions. I loved that one track in GT3 where it was bascially a snow rally.. that was sweet. Hell, I'd totally love it if they would add in all sorts of other dynamic weather... high winds, fog, night, thunderstorms... mmmmm... *drool*.

(Thread Derail) I don't know if I agree with that in Forza icronic. I've seen many many times when a lesser car wins. It's a LOT about the driver as well...
Except when JackB races.. cuz he has the driver AND the car. BASTAGE! =) (/Derail)
That being said, I think it's cool snow is in the game, but I'm not all that interested in racing in it. RAIN on the other hand, bring it on! Hope it has working windshield wipers. ;-)

Speak for yourself. I've literally filled a REAL car with REAL snow when racing a buddy on a frozen lake with all the windows open. :D That's about as close to real-life arcade driving as you can get.
