I never thought I would pay to see a movie starring Jack Black, but this one just might tempt me to break my solemn vow.

You'll have to see the official Tennacious D movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0365830/)!

Jack Black is my second favourite actor. How can you not love him after his moving performance in Computerman (http://www.channel101.com/shows/show.php?show_id=1)?

I was wondering what dinosaurs where doing in the screenshots for the game... then someone told me that the original King Kong movie had dinosaurs so I guess it makes sense.
The best Jack Black movie to date is School of Rock. I was surprised how good a movie that was. I think up to movie's release, the only movie I'd seen with Jack Black was Enemy of the State.
Thought he was pretty darn funny in High Fidelity as well, anyway the trailer looked cool hope it turns out good.

Seconded.
I've already seen the only sequel/remake (read: new movie) I'm watching in the theater for the year.

lol after seeing that trailer I couldn't agree more. Well, only if he comes back after this movie to make the live action Hobbit. Then I'll send him a check. :D

This looks cool but, I don't understand all the remakes of old movies... There are plenty of great SciFi and Fantasy novels just sitting on the shelves collecting dust. DragonLance, Ender's Game, 2061, Dragon Riders of Pern, plenty from Asimov, just to name a few - anyone?

Peter Jackson has talked on several occasions about how the original King Kong (from 1933, which also had dinosaurs, by the way) was the film that inspired him to make movies in the first place. This is a labour of love for him, and I think it shows, big-time. It's a classic story that deserves a new telling. This ain't Bewitched, fer chrissakes...

Wow, what a fantastic looking cartoon. Wasn't someone supposed to make a new live action version of this?</sarcasm>
Yes, I know it will be good, but I'm really shocked at how cartoony it looked. I was really looking forward to this, but now my expectations have just dropped a notch or two.
I like Black too, but it is a bit unsettling to watch him in something like this where we are supposed to take him somewhat seriously.

That quelled many of my "Jack Black" fears. Hopefully Jackson will continue to have unrivaled success. I truely think he will surpass Lucas and Spielburg.

Personally, I will see it, and probably love it to death.
Will the rest of the movie-going population love it? Probably not. King Kong is Jackson's favorite movie, something that one can tell even from the trailer. When King Kong came out it was "amazing" and unbelievably cool--scary, even, since people believed that what they were seeing was real thanks to what were, for the time, incredible special effects.
Now, most of the things that made King Kong the cultural icon that it is today are so commonplace they simply bleed into the background (*cough*StarWars*cough*). This begs the question of how the movie is going to remain relevant to its audience. The most common way has been to just turn it into an action promenade (see: Godzilla remake), which is I'm sure what Universal would like Kong to become, and has appeared to market it in that fashion.
So what will Jackson do? It's hard to tell, considering his track record. Everyone has seen the Lord of the Rings movies, but anyone who has seen his earlier stuff (e.g. Heavenly Creatures) will know that he is capable of some very strange and interesting things.
From the looks of it, however, I'm guessing that Jackson's Kong is going to be a nostalgic journey back into what was for him as a child, the coolest thing he had ever seen. The sets will be amazing, the special effects very flashy, but the story will probably remain an old one, and I worry that, in being so, it will only be relevant to those kids who grew up with the big monkey.
Here's hoping I'm wrong...

He had quite a bit of serious parts in Shallow Hal and School of Rock. It's just hard to take him 100% serious... all the time.

Dragonlance... someone mentioned that they wanted a Dragonlance movie? Are you retarded? Did you not see the last D&D movie or somthing?
BTW, Jack Black was great in Envy... Of course, not nearly as good as Christopher Walken was :p

I had zero interest in this movie (despite my respect of Peter Jackson) but after watchign the trailer, I became interested. It has been ages since a good adventure movie (haven't seen Batman yet) came out and this might be it.

I grew up watching King Kong movies and this is basically like playing Pacman on a cell phone. The game is played to death, but somehow I still find it fun.
I cannot think of a better director to bring King Kong, especially since Peter Jackson said making this movie was something he wanted to do for a long time. His passion will reflect the quality.

The first three Dragonlance novels were disconnected shit which read like a retelling of someone's homegame. Oh wait! That's what they were.
Edit: And they would still probably make better films than the D&D flick

It looks alright, although I have to agree with the comments about the CGI effects - it needs some more polish. The dinosaur herds really stick out as obvious renders, as does the stuff like the car that Kong kicks around and other things. Still really cool trailer, I hope it's gonna be good.
As for Jack Black... well, anyone who actually manages to complete all the Platinum challenges in PGR2 has my respect: http://sniperkilla.home.comcast.net/JackBlack.jpg

The trailer for this looks cool. I hope the game is equally cool.

Heh, yeah. Computerman was a laugh. Same with Drew Carrey's side project Call Me Cobra (http://www.channel101.com/shows/show.php?show_id=49). Hell, I don't even like the guy normally, but that was entertaining.

You're kidding, right? I loved Dragonlance when I was younger, before I knew how much they ripped off from Tolkien. Fizban=Gandalf the Grey (foolish wizard on the surface). Fistandantilus= Gandalf the White (returned as an all powerful white wizard). Flint is pretty much Gimli, note for note. Tasslehoff is somewhat like Bilbo, the thief of the Hobbit. Sturm and Boromir would have kept perfect company together. Tanis and Aragorn, hmm, disgraced half-elven leaders of their band...
That said, they did come up with some cool original ideas and dialogue. I still have a place in my heart for DL, but it doesn't hold a candle to LOTR or the Hobbit.

What a lot of people seem to forget about the Dragonlance novels is that the writing was great. The plot was just a home brew D&D game and when you translate what you played into a series of novels, I'm sure you are going to steal from a lot of sources. (Our D&D campaign often stole from my favorite RPG, Gamma World.)
But, the writing was great, even in the first novel and the first one is the one that reads most like a tabletop gaming session complete with a dungeon crawl.
The second trilogy is just a classic series that everyone should read. I never really read much beyond that since they started bringing in other authors.
Oh, and I thought the King Kong trailer rocked, I'll buy it on DVD even if I miss it in the theater.
Read my whole post, Evil, I did give them credit. The characters, ripped-off from Tolkien as they were, still grew and had believable interactions, and I came to care for them all. Dragonlance Legends (second trilogy) was even better as you said. The time-travel element actually worked well in this setting and Caramon finally became something more than dumb muscle. This for me was the end of the series as I saw it.
And, I was Raistlin (black robe) for Halloween when I was 13 :)
My point was that, even with the greatness of Dragonlance, they owe a great deal to Tolkien (as does any D&D mythology, I suppose) and could never top LOTR in my mind.

Look at the complete ass mess they usually make of good scifi novels. For every Blade Runner there's a Johnny Mnemonic waiting aound the corner. Jackson at least has the clout to make movies the way he wants them. Dunno about Mcaffrey's work, but I'd love to see him take on Neuromancer.

I agree with everyone who mentioned how dated the CGI looks. Just remember this sucker is 6 months away, and the main WETA team is working on the movie effects while only a few members are working on the trailer FX. By the time this comes out, the FX should be polished and be up to snuff. Still, if their CGI was so raw and CGI-looking they probably should have left a lot of it out of the trailer.
For whoever mentioned that list of books that should be movies... Ender's Game is currently in pre-production. Wolfgang Peterson is onboard to direct and the screenplay is by Mike Dougherty & Dan Harris (of X2 and Superman Returns). I believe it's actually going to be a combined Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow storyline.
But then on the flipside.. I noticed this same writing duo is working on a Logan's Run remake. why? Why??

Trailer looked very cool.
On Dragonlance, Weis and Hickman are about to go back and do a trilogy that slots in with the original chronicles - hoping to alleviate that whole disjointed feel. Apparantly due to heavy editing and size constraints much was cut out that they wanted to include.
Monkey still looks fake and Jurassic Park had better dinosaurs.

I'll give Jackson (and also Ancel) the benefit of the doubt on King Kong. I trust you guys, don't let me down.
And Weis and Hickman could write well enough to get a lot of mileage out of old material. A new coat of paint and some polish can still be quite enjoyable. And kender are great fun.

That trailer was amazing. I never thought I could see a remake of a 75 year old movie and have it look worse.
God im sorry all the peter jackson movies have subpar CG, this is just as bad. I feel like im watching cartoons in movies now. Thats why batman was so good, they used stuntmen when they could of just as easily used cg, I guess its hard to find a 50ft guirrilla though but anyways, Im sure peter will sue the movie studio making this film later on too.
