In case you didn't catch it (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31337) in the console forums, has Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com) has the first official trailer of Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation (http://www.gamespot.com/video/938702/6172373/ace-combat-6-fires-of-liberation-official-trailer-1). They also have a nice little preview here (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/sim/acecombat6/news.html?sid=6172444&tag=topslot;title;1&om_act=convert&om_clk=topslot).
Before we begin a proper preview of Ace Combat 6 for the Xbox 360, let's get this out of the way early: This game looks amazing. With wonderfully detailed jets, gorgeous explosion and flight effects, as well as some of the most realistic-looking cityscapes we've ever seen in a flight game, there's little doubt that Namco's next entry in its long-running jet-fighting series is giving the Xbox 360 hardware a serious workout.
Hot stuff.
The link isn't quite right.

No, doesn't work, seen it though.
Looks good, with a nice bit of overacted drama.
this could be huge on Live if done right.

I'm stoked after seeing the trailer and reading the preview.
Plus if the game is great and has nice controls I will buy the joystick/throttle also. Yum!!!
I haven't played any Ace Combat games on the PS2. Would it be worth getting one of the series to play on my PS3?

Can not wait for this one...! AC5 was one of the reasons I re-re-bought a PS2 (before I got a PS3) again...!

Hell Yeah..!

Haven't played an Ace Combat or an arcade-ish flight sim in ages, but I'd really like to get back into the series with this one.
Holy crap. Just watched the trailer... now THAT is a TRAILER. If that was a movie, I'd go see it right away. I'd be stoked! My hype meter just went from "excited" to "when can I play?!"
This game is absolutely gorgeous, and it seems as if it actually has competent direction and acting -- something sorely lacking in oh so many games. We'll see if it holds up.

It looks great graphically, but I always find the Ace Combat games to be incredibly boring once I actually start playing them. I know some people love them though, so thumbs up for those people.

Yeah, pretty much what UnderHero5 said. The games always look beautiful, but fall somewhat flat as far as gameplay. They normally suffer from the pitfall that you're just shooting at blips that show up on your HUD. I know the series has it's fans, but it'd be nice to see them change things up again.
And reading the preview, it looks like they're basing all their excitement about the game on the graphics.

Fuck, well this is the first Ace Combat game I plan to buy. Haven't done a jet fighter game since Afterburner. ;)

Is this the first one on an HD console? Perhaps things look more clear in high res. ;)

I became a huge fan of the Ace Combat series when a good friend of mine introduced me to AC4. After watching this preview, I am completely psyched about this game. I love how the AC games aren't just good arcade flight games, but they tend to tell a good to great story as well. This game looks like its going to continue that tradition.
Oh, and I will be getting the flight stick and throttle. I am that big a geek.

Yeah, you'll see nice high res squares around the tiny black ones when you're shooting enemies down. I've played enough PC flight games to know that a high resolution doesn't make these types of games more exciting to play (for me anyway).

I don't have a 360 yet but I will probably get one for this game. I have been waiting for an online multiplayer in an ace combat game for a long log time. Pick up and and play dogfights sounds like a ton of fun to me!

Ace combat is fucking awesome!
And this one will be even more so.
The HOTAS makes it even more more so.
Now, let us start the "Stormwatcher Xbox 360 Fund Raiser" so I can actually play the new one.

I've never played an Ace Combat game but the trailer makes me want to pick this up day one.

Geebus that looks awesome. The AC team is one of the best teams working at Namco, IMHO.
While it's true that there's a lot of "chase the blip on radar, get missile-lock" gameplay in the AC games, it's still got that nice arcadey flight-combat game feel for me. Plus, they do mix up the missions a bit: AC4 had particularly fun choices like hunting down rogue cruise missiles and escorting a passenger jet with a bad engine.
What suprises me the most about the series is the attention to story, in games where I'm usually not expecting much of a story at all.
Heck, and now there's (finally) online play, so really, what more do you want? :)

The PSP Version was the first time I jumped into this series, and it blew me away! The perfect blend of realism and arcade goodness. I will definitely pick this up on the X360.

Why is Microsoft trying to horn typical hardcore PC titles onto consoles and, seemingly, the other way around?

You do know that this is a franchise that originated on the PS1 in 1995, right?

Yeah, but look at what it has become, with that flight stick peripheral.

True, but this is what Namco does. They had that ass ugly steering controller that they released for the PS1 for RR4 too. The flight stick thing is a decent idea, but I don't see how it'd be worth it. Then again, I'm not a big peripheral buyer.

Does the PSP version have a good story? Might pick that up while I wait.

I've recently bought Ace Combat Zero and it's such an awesome game that I'm forgetting to blink at times. The best thing about the game is that your actions have a visceral and tangible impact on the world and your surroundings.
And anyone who says that the AC team can't do epic is full of shit. I would like to kindly direct you to Megalith or Zero as examples.

Love Ace Combat. They're all amazing. Can't wait for this game. Ace Combat is videogame sex.

I thought the story in AC:X for PSP was pretty good. It definitely got you to wanting to play the upcoming levels. It is all done through picture panning style with some animation. A lot of the story is also told during flight, therefore, crating mission and plot twists.

What the hell was the name of the city they were defending, "Gracesveria"?? Why not just use "New York City" or a real name. Unless I misunderstood what the dude kept saying in his walkie talkie voice, this pretty much detracts from the immersion, imo. In a game like this I'd like to feel that America is under attack and I'm a fighter pilot against all odds to defend her.

Who cares? This way you can have a giant landmass without worrying about it being accurately modeled. And no people screaming because you blew up part of their beloved city in a digital representation. Besides, it's a cool name.
Fiction people, it's just freaking fiction.
Edit: And let me remind you that according to Wiki:
#Ace Combat 6 takes place in 2015 in the Anean Continent, north of Yuktobania, a country featured in Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War.
# It also features the effects of the Ulysses Asteroid, as seen in Ace Combat 04.
# The game will have new countries: the Republic of Emmeria, Kingdom of Nordennavic and Federal Republic of Estovakia.
This is an original fiction with it's own universe.

these "chasing blips" comments make me laugh.
learn to dog fight.
BTW, in AC5 and Zero at least, I honestly don't remember if it's the same universe in AC4...
Yuktobania is an analog to Russia, a Soviet Russia.
Oscea, the US.
and small war-like country Belka...that was making the advanced weapons and shit, was known for having awesome pilots? Hurm....what could that be...all their sqaudrons having names like "rot" "schwarz" and "schnee"....hurm.... :D
I would suppose Ustio would be like the UK, it's mercenary airforce pulling a bit of a RAF Battle of Britain kinda thing...just in the game you actually drive the Belkans back...they don't just "stop" attacking and attack other people. How? Because, You and Pixy are unstoppable.

Um, Ace Combat 5 also had its own flight stick (http://www.dreamstation.cc/news/video_games/id4948). This is nothing new.
