Capcom (http://www.capcom.com/) have now officially announced their plans to distribute the PC incarnations of their titles via Steam (http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php).

Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, and Valve today announced an agreement that brings a collection of Capcom's current and future PC games to Valve's Steam digital distribution service. Under the arrangement, PC versions of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, Onimusha 3, Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, and future PC titles will be made available via the leading online distribution platform. Capcom is the first major Japanese software publisher to sign on with Steam.

Steam is the only full-featured broadband platform for the delivery and management of games and digital content, and has pioneered its broadband services to over 13 million customers with core and casual games from today's leading publishers and developers.

Available later this week, Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition is an action game that follows the stylish demon-slayer Dante as he uses swords and guns to wage a nonstop, one-man battle against the demon world in order to carry out a 2000 year-old revenge.

Nice to see some Japanese love for Steam, although I'm quite apathetic about these titles myself.

Wow, shitty console ports that were mostly all bug riddled! Sweet!

Capcom = Worst PC development ever.

Seriously... I think a bunch of 16 year old hackers could do a better port job than anyone at Capcom.

Hence my apathy.
However, it is interesting to see another large developer making steps into the digital distribution market.

And here I was thinking that Capcom was getting into the dating sim scene. o.0

I guess the fact that two such big companies are working together is interesting in and of itself, but I agree with the others here. Capcom does the absolute worst PC ports. Actually, come to think of it, any Japanese console developer I can think of that has done a PC port of one of their games has created an abysmal product.

I'm sorry?

I'm sorry?
This undoubtedly hangs on the meaning of the term "full-featured"...

/edit - also, do the other mechanisms just do games or can they manage media as well?

I'm amused by the editing of my post. I originally posted this in PC Games, Evil edited it to add more detail and make it a news piece, and now Penguin has edited to remove most of the detail Evil added :D

Full featured = doing this little lot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_%28content_delivery%29#Client_functionality) instead of only providing the download.

Wow. Maybe we can get Konami to put their horrid ports on Steam next.

Now, if they were putting Phoenix Wright on Steam, that'd almost be worth getting.

Actually, as much as Capcom's PC ports aren't very good, I'm impressed to see that Capcom is getting it this generation.

They seem to be the 1st Japanese gaming company to understand that the market outside their island is growing and they are trying to cater to that audience.

Props to them.

fuck steam. i just tried selling my legal copy of HL2episode1 and found out I can't because I don't have the original receipt that i would have to send to steam/valve/whoever as proof to have them transfer the game to someone else's account.

fuck that, i'm not buying anymore steam shit, still going to play it all though...

That makes no sense...when you buy from steam they dont send you a receipt.

And it always cracks me up when someone clearly violates somethign that every store on earth would enforce and then blames them like they're evil.

The more publishers on Steam, the better, IMHO, which makes this good news regardless of how good the particular games in question are.

Now they just need a Steam-exclusive PC port of Dead Rising. :p

Man, I really hope the DMC3 port won't suck. Maybe Valve will push them into doing a proper port?

Yeah. They check for any file changes when you run the game.

I don't like this. I liked finding random Mega Man games for sale at EB or whatever for the PC. Now I won't have that. Capcom's PC ports are flawless these days. I mean, even the slowdown gets ported from their PSX titles! But, like shooters you want that slowdown.

I don't understand why they never brought over MvC to PC or their arcade fighters after X-Men:COTA.

Save for Metal Gear Solid 2, I haven't seen a bad port from Konami in all my days.

I own all Silent Hill games release for the PC, btw... and wouldn't have it any other way.
