AceyBongos (http://aceybongos.spaces.live.com/default.aspx?_c02_owner=1) has the news I've been waiting for...
The countdown is on - the Princess has been stolen by the evil Vizier and you only have 60 minutes to rescue her, starting from 10am BST on Wednesday June 13! That's right, the game that single-handedly revolutionised videogame animations, Prince of Persia, is coming to Xbox Live Arcade - and it looks silkier than the Prince's pantaloons!
...
The Xbox Live Arcade version features enhanced visuals (which look absolutely gorgeous), new gameplay modes, and some new traps and enemies to revitalise the experience. It'll cost 800 MS Points, or there'll be a trial version to try for free.

Hot damn, I'm as excited as a paparazzi photographer who's just caught Paris Hilton playing with her Wii!

800 points? Finally something that sounds priced right on marketplace.

As someone who actually bought the game back when it came out, i can only say that people are in for a rough suprise.
The controls were unacceptable even for the low standards back then, the level and difficulty design was developed by the Marquis de Sade himself and, well, you'll see kiddies. In the meantime, go and hype it.

I was a lot younger when I was playing it, but I don't think I ever was able to get the good ending by beating it in time. It was crazy as the time was ticking down... do you grab the vial that will boost your health by one unit... do you really have the time to make the detour? You meet a baddie... if you attack all mad-like you'll loose health... but if you play it defensively you could be fighting him for the next minute and a half. You find a hidden path near the exit… do you follow it, or jump to the next level right away…. And if you skip it, what are you missing out on? There are spikes in front of you, you could sneak through them – but the gate is closing… go careful or go for broke?
Classic.

June 13!!!!! My birthday!!!!!
They have made minor tweaks to the game to make it more 'casual' friendly. Don't get me wrong, it's still pretty tough, but tough in a fun way now rather than a "you don't have a chance without memorizing every bit" way.

I have been hoping that this title was coming pretty soon. Yes, the original was aneurysm inducing, and I hope BGSS is right about the tweaking. I am not near as patient a gamer now as I was then. In any case, keep the good games coming MS.

I've been playing it a bit. Looks stunning. However, my skills are no where near what they once were. Safe to say, me and the pits are constantly meeting.

How are you playing it when its not even on live yet , are you a tester of some sort? And Digiwiz , I had no problems at all with this games controls when it came out..in fact I thought the games controls were pretty perfect. The game was pretty hard but I don't think it was because of bad controls.

It's on the X-Box live developers network... any game developer for the 360 can play it on their dev kits for free.

I'm definately checking out the demo. Got a lot on my plate, game-wise, at the moment and am trying not to spend anything on games for a wee bit, but I might end up tossing a few more points on ye olde Live Account to get this if the demo ends up being as fun as it looks.
It's been many years since I played the original. I don't know if I ever got past the first room, but it'd be fun to see if I could actually beat it after it's been prettified.

Thats what I was thinking too :( but hopefully they've fixed up the controls and made it into a working game. *crosses fingers* If they have then W00T! June 13 is very soon :D .

I am definitely buying this game..is there any way to tell how good xbox live game sales are? I would love to see them make a new game with these graphics and not in full 3D.

The new version looks so fantastically awesome.
And the thread's title should be "Buckles his Swash".

Well, in 80s games, women - princesses especially - were pretty much the property of the male characters. :D

Are you referring to the original game? Or the XBLA one?
Edit: Nevermind...too early. I need to learn to read.
That said, I had no problems with the original. PoP2 though was frustrating for me controlwise....

Ok.. finally a 800 point game I can get behind. That seems a good price for this type of game which will get a lot of play. And the improved graphics are pretty amazing. I played the original back in the day and those were pretty bad. This games "hook" was the animation of the guy running and stopping and hanging.. etc.

IGN already have a review (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/795/795486p1.html) (8.6/10) out.
The best-looking XBLA game to date. The animations are better than some regular Xbox 360 titles. Preserves the great art style of the original series
Prince of Persia Classic is certainly short, but it's oh so sweet. This is one of the best games released on XBLA to date and the template all future enhanced classic games should follow. If it weren't for the brevity of the experience, POP Classic would be, well, an instant classic.

Having just tried it out via other, *ahem*, methods...I can say this is true.
I found the controls lagged substantially badly between inputting a movement and seeing it happen onscreen.
Have they cleaned it up? We'll see...I certainly won't pay ten bucks for it if they haven't, since I'm not a fan of paying for ROMs (*cough-Virtual Console-cough*).

Just tought I'd add... Maybe Nintendo's idea was to give gamers who never tried out the NES or some of the games to do so...
If you mean you can just pirate it... Well, we can do the same for all games... xD

Two things:
1. You should probably check links before posting them (that site's been shut down by lawyers/litigation threats.
2. While people talk about such stuff here, linking to it might be a no-no.
/I did love that site when it was actually working. Sad. :(

I have no problem rewarding creators of the gaming products I enjoy. I buy a lot of games; virtually all of them new at retail. I DO have a problem rewarding regurgitators of twenty-year-old, unchanged ROMs. That is unacceptable to me.
XBLA is different in one respect. The titles going up there have had some care in at least the graphical area, and often in other ways as well. I appreciate that effort and don't mind paying in such cases.
Which is why I'll demo this one to see...:)
