Just saw Batman Begins yesterday and I was VERY impressed. My wife enjoyed it also. I'm glad it's getting a good run at the box office.

It disgusts me that a piece of trash like "Herbie..." beat out "Land of the Dead". "Batman Begins" derserves the top spot. It's an excellent movie.

"Land of the Dead" is a very good movie...the best zombie movie Romero has made.

I saw Batman Begins this weekend as well with my wife. We both loved it. I just hope the sequel gets the same treatment.

I saw the adventures of shark boy and lava girl over the weekend (I took my 2 kids). That was such a horrible piece of trash (i'm not anti kid-movies either). The story was atrocious, the actors were horrible and the 3-D was the blue/red kind that sucks ass.

Agreed: Batman was very good.

Go see Howl's Moving Castle.

That's next on my list. My wife and I are going to Michigan in two weeks and movie going is going to factor into our break some place.

Go see Howl's Moving Castle.

This is one I haven't heard of. I know, I know, I should probably have heard something about it, but I guess I've had my head in the sand for too long. Maybe I haven't seen anything on it as I live in Ohio and we usually get the shaft when it comes to a limited release (unless that's not the case and I've just gone blind when scrolling movie links).

What's it about? Been looking for something new to see that I know nothing of going in. Almost impossible to see a film without any preconceived notion, but I've found myself so bogged down with reviews 90% of the time, that I already have my mind made up before the film begins to roll. Would be a nice change of pace to have no opinion before sitting in that seat.

Batman was very kick ass, even if the first 30 minutes were a freaking bore fest.

I guess you'll just have to excuse the writer, director and producers for attempting to flesh out a story and not just show non stop action from the get go. I personally enjoyed all parts of Batman Begins, but to each their own.

Probably not just isolated to Ohio, as I think Howl's Moving Castle opening in a whole whopping 36 theaters nationwide. Disney (US distributers, not creators of the film) maybe bought a clue and started distributing it to more theaters, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Howl's is Japanese Animation, but not the typical stuff (no giant robots, or japanese teen angst), more mythical, perhaps. Made by the same studio that did the Oscar winning Spirited Away among many other films -- see http://www.nausicaa.net/ for more details about the studio.

Was it that bad? I heard it was by the ones that did spy kids, which was not bad. I think Howls moving castle is the one my daughter was telling me about being Japanese animation kids style like Spirited away, which was also pretty good though long.

I'll probably see Batman Begins once more as I enjoyed it alot. Still have to make some time to catch Mr. & Mrs. Smith (some of you guys suggested to me it was ok, so I'll give that a go) and Land of the Dead...

Anything remotely tied to Miyazaki is probably genius, I'd suggest Howl's Moving Castle as well (Christian Bale lends his voice here too).

It's really sad that Mr and Mrs Smith is actually beating out Batman (though granted, I think they had a 4-5 day jump on it). I've seen both, and really, people can wait to see M&M Smith on DVD, there's nothing in it worth going to the big screen for (no, not even Jolie's lips, which just begin to freak you out at that size).

Danke for the link. I absolutely loved Spirited Away, so I'll most definitely have to check this out. Been looking for a good anime to get into that doesn't involve guns, weird sci-fi plots, insert any cliche here. Looks excellent.

Land of the Dead was good. I was a bit surprised when I checked showtimes at the local theater and saw it was only showing in 1 theater for 4 times total(!). I wondered if maybe I was mistaken and that it came out a month ago, but nope. I then figured that it would be sold out, since the first showing started at 2:15 in the afternoon, but the theater only got as much as half full.

It was a good movie. I enjoyed it much more than "Day of the Dead" (the 3rd one). My guess is that the limited release, coupled with hardly any hype for the movie at all (heck, I thought the release date wasn't until September) is why this movie didn't do better than it could have. Hopefully word of mouth will turn it around.

You sorta just answered your own complaint. Mr and Mrs Smith had a whole opening weekend to itself. If you factor that in, Batman is on track to make a lot more money and do much better than it.

I don't mind fleshing out a story, I just thought the way it was done was boring. It had some cool flashes it was just VERY slow.

I saw Bewitched over the weekend (I used to enjoy show reruns when I was a kid, and Will Ferrell is funny most of the time). While it had its moments, on a scale of 1 to Batman Begins, I'd have to rate it a kind 4.
Nicole Kidman is very nice to look at though...

How 'bout Steve Carrell and Stephen Colbert in the same movie?

I'd be surprised if it doesn't drop out of the top ten next week. (Please let me be wrong.) On the other hand, it only cost $15 million, so it doesn't have to go far to break even. DVD sales\rentals should do well. Whether that's enough for the Hollywood slime machine is anyone's guess.

It's really a shame. I liked the remake, but this is a much better movie.

I've only seen three movies in the past two months(alot more then usual) and oddly enough they were all movies I enjoyed. Batman begins, Star wars, and kingdom of heaven were all movies that seemed to me to be way above par for the shitfest of which the movie industry has of late been passing of as entertainment. I only hope they see some improvement in their profits to show them that, well shit entertainment is still entertainment, we the people would like to see well thought out movies, not Daredevil.

I saw BB yesterday and definetly at least 2nd best batman.. i was a bit dissapointed that nolan reduced himself to flash edits and no choreography.. its not like christian bale cant do it (watch equilibrium)

i do like the fact that he is still working out all the kinks in batman with the cave and his outfit etc though.. nice touch.

great movie, just didnt satiate my ADD blast fest action scene craving like a movie like starwars 3 did.

You're crazy, get off the pipe.

And let's see...don't ever pretend to know Will Ferrel comedy, you won't be able to sound convincing. Bewitched was top shelf. And to make it even better the movie had a better budget than previous Will Ferrel movies. Anchorman would have been better IF they had not killed it in editting.

I live in Ohio (well for 1 more week, at least) and I've heard of Howl's Moving Castle, so please don't use that as an excuse. In fact, it's currently playing at Esquire Theater here in Cincinnati, and I'm going to try to make it over there this week. Just FYI.

Oh merciful comedy mastermind, please, provide a deep analytical analysis on Will Ferrel's comedic gold for me. Please?

I think Will Ferrel is a really funny guy, but he is not funny on his own. Despite what you may think (you are allowed to have opinions, no matter how incorrect they may be), Anchorman was not a good movie. Did you know that he wrote some of that movie? Some of it was written by guys from SNL (that should raise a red flag right away). If you think that is comedy, you need to develop a real sense of humor and find some Monty Python or a good Mel Brooks movie, or even go find some episodes of SNL back when it used to be funny. Will was on a few funny ones.

Honestly, he's just not that great in a leading role. He does a great job as a supporting character, just like Vince Vaughn, but the difference is, that's all Will should do. Elf is really the only exception, but that movie was superbly written.

You know, I even like a few movies that lower your IQ as you watch them. But Anchorman was so unbelievably dumb, I felt as though the balance of the universe had been thrown off by its utter and complete stupidity. What reason does a movie like that even have to exist? I continue to forget that people in this world only continue to grow less intelligent as time goes by. I'm betting that you also liked Zoolander.

I know exactly who wrote Anchorman and why, from their own words. Thanks for proving you just don't get the amount of parody that was thrown into it. I know that he did write "more than some of it." (Try: he conceived the idea for the parody) Also note that I didn't say Anchorman was a good movie. There are many obvious flaws, one of which I already mentioned. The thing was absolutely killed in editting.

The point is simple. If you don't like anything Will Ferrel does than you just don't have a taste for the particular style of humor he loves to use. This isn't supposed to be some insult against your character, it is just simple logic. Bewitched was grade-A Ferrel comedy just as Kicking and Screaming was and Anchorman. You say you didn't like any of those? Then you just don't like his style. That doesn't mean those movies were horrible primarily due to the fact that one person's subjective sense of humor isn't going to ruin anything. Ferrel performs for a particular audience and that audience is always well-served.

Also, thanks for that crack at the end, it really betrays what level of maturity you have toward intelligent discourse.
