played.todeath.com (http://played.todeath.com/) has scored an interview (http://played.todeath.com/05/june/html/page_19.html) with the guy who rushed in the now famous (and probably staged) World of Warcraft video.Let's talk about the video. What inspired the name of your character, Leeroy Jenkins? Is he a character from a movie or something you made up?
It was pretty much made up. I was sitting around with a few guild-mates drinking forties ...
Figured since it was a slow news day... Pulling a Leroy now seems to be common place online.

That site has a strange layout...

hm, kind of annoying that they don't support IE. I'm at a summer camp using public computers, and I can't install FireFox.

That site doens't work with Exploder. And I refuse to accomodate them. I use the other browsers at work and I have not found their inclusion to be worth the hard drive space. Yeah I know Firefox has tabs, but it doesn't work properly with anything MS related. Now these bastards want to force my hand. Its probably out of some kind of wierd MS hate issue that they are working through. How irritating for them to nail ME with that. Bastards.
Well, for those of us using Safari, the site worked just fine. If it makes you feel any better, the interview is kind of boring. Just a bunch of "So, I guess you're famous now" kinda stuff. That and the mention of his cult status rivaled only by that of the Star Wars Kid. Decent read though, but nothing trying to find another browser for.

I don't know: I find the interview stale. The video was funny but the trend it started is annoying. I saw at least 5 people in Guild Wars named Leeroy Jenkins, Leroy Jinkins, Learoy Jonkins et cetera. Bleh.

Am I the only one who found the original video to be nothing special?

Come on man, what makes it work is that they spent like 10 minutes going over strategies, statistics and all other kinds of geekorgy... and then our man Leeeeerooooyyyy... JENKINS! just busts in there and screws everybody. That was priceless. And they did all that to try and get epic shoulder pads for LJ, which makes it even funnier.
Am I the only one who found the original video to be nothing special?
No, lots of people trying to be edgy say that.

Or they just didn't like it?

Yep, or that.

It would be funnier if it wasn't staged.

Hmm. About 90% of the visitors to our company's Internet site use IE. I suspect that deliberately putting up a page that says we don't support you (instead of letting the formatting just be as-is) isn't a good way to draw visitors to your site.

I was pretty darn sure it was staged. If you listen to the various guys in the set-up sequence it's pretty clear that they're not that great as actors.

Join almost any pickup group and the samething will happen half of the time. I don't really see what is special about it other than the name and someone actually made a video of it.

How completely unprofessional to throw up a page like that for the majority of internet users. Spoiled little nerdy brats.
Firefox sucks. It's a sloppy version of Safari, which is awesome. I can't stomach using Firefox after using Safari, so i stick with IE. If you want tabs, use Avant Browser or something that puts them over IE, and does a better job of it.
Their site's fucking ugly, too. Not sure why that mess was hard to accomplish in IE, lazy shits.

I hope when you use IE, your browser gets hijacked, or better yet, you get a virus or something happens to your computer.

Wow. Lots of hate for no IE support. Now you know how Mozilla users feel when we come across an IE only page.

If you go the their homepage they mentioned that upcoming issues will support IE (bleh!..at least it gives me job security). I think they were rushing this issue (the first) out the door and didn't care to accomodate IE's lack of browser standards (from the looks of the source).
The laces were out. IE can die of ghonorrhea and rot in hell. Cookie?

The only thing funny about that video was Leeroy's delivery. I mean, he pronounced Jenkins like it began with an "n." That's some impressive character acting! He's almost as popular as Vader's "Nooooooooooo!"

Yeah, i don't know. That never happens to me. Besides, get an anti-virus program. If that's really your reason for not using IE, I feel sorry for you and your lack of control over your own computer.
Wow. Lots of hate for no IE support. Now you know how Mozilla users feel when we come across an IE only page.
Putting up a "fuck you" page for the other browser, instead of just letting it render it how it does, is what's bullshit. If these hacks can't hobble together a page viewable in IE, where you don't even need to follow standards, then they shouldn't be publishing web sites.
It's just not necessary or professional. It's extremely easy to get a site working in IE and Mozilla. It's not like netscape 4 and IE differences here, and I don't appreciate these idiots trying to revert the internet back to those miserable times.
1: Antivirus does shit to protect you against IE holes.
2: As has been said, by comments and the actual page, the next issue will work with IE.

I thought the problem was IE doesn't comply with IEEE standards.
I don't use IE for anything, it scares me a bit how deeply involved with XP it is... and the idea I would go browsing around the web with something so important to my computer's ability to work.... crazyish.

I think IEEE is network related standards. You're thinking of W3C standards.

It's so obviously fake that only people who haven't been to UBRS before would actually think that there was the slightest possibility that it wasn't staged. The ridiculous and dumb strategies that the team was discussing prior to the eggroom ... if it was real the leader and the paladins should go commit seppuku.

No, I think they are just Lunix elitists. If the lunix nerds had it their way you would have to compile every webpage before you could view it.
EDIT:
I heard half of the lunix community quit using computers all together until they could figure out a way to make you have to compile your operating system before booting up your computer. I also heard Linus was inventing a computer that you had to assemble from M&Ms before you could use it.

Huh? Examples please? I use Firefox at work a lot and have yet to find any pages which are clearly a "FU" to that browser. Even www.microsoft.com is Firefox compatible. The ones that do not work are ones that use IE specific functionality, which isn't Microsoft's fault. Sun forced Microsoft to pull java from IE, so it had no choice but to stick with it's own scripting language.
I wanted to move my last company totally off of IE onto Firefox. Mostly because of the potential administrator Nightmare should a nasty IE exploit get out there.
Unfortuantly we ran Microsoft Project Server and Microsoft Sharepoint Server. Both of which are web based applications, and neither of which worked with Firefox, at all.

I use Avant. Basically, an IE wrapper. Keep up on MS patches (which I am betting most that use firefox do), and have a decent firewall and virus scanner, and IE won't hurt you. Get over it. But, anyone on the internet is free to lock out 3/4 of the people on the internet, it is their choice.
