View Full Version : Eve Online Mini-expansion Revealed

EVE Online's maker CCP is calling this content update the "Cold War Edition". The update will be "much larger in scope than a regular patch and yet smaller than a full expansion."

Some of the new features include outposts, which are intended for systems where a full station is overkill, mega-cruisers that are so big they don't fit through stargates and need their own onboard jumpdrives, mega-freighters with a million cubic meters of storage capacity (seen here (http://www.eve-online.com/bitmaps/newsletters/vol005.compressed.cid/newsletterhead_5.jpg) - those are some of the game's current largest ships next to it), new star systems, vast improvements to add more strategy to ship combat, and an "industrial revolution."

Get all the details from this official newsletter (http://www.eve-online.com/community/newsletters/vol005.html).

Eve is just about the only RPG I've ever spent more than a couple of hours on, probably because the RPG parts are kept comparatively hidden. The combat upgrades look very interesting and might help to fight off the dreaded grind that still plauges the game.

I'm telling you the truth, this has to be one of the most absolutely amazing online games I've ever played. If I had the free time, I would play the expansion as much as possible.

I hope it turns out well.

I never got around to it.

But those changes seem fairly cool, but mostly "high level" content as there is no way a individual can afford a mega-freighter.

I mena high level in that only those with lots in-game money AND friends can take advantage of this stuff, which is a good idea since the new player rate is probably quite low.

Woops, did you add something?

I made a few grammatical corrections. Don't know who shifted the whole post around.

Go ahead with the corrections. I approved it and then went to work on it, so I didn't see your changes.

Anyway this game looks and sounds fantastic, although I doubt it's newbie-friendly.

What makes this game so interesting though, is that players naturally fall into their roles, risks are high, and play experience is unscripted.

Hi all, first post and all, though I do read the news here on a daily basis.

The new patch does include a hell of a lot of stuff, the point mainly is for you Liquidize105. CCP have hired a new QA head and is leading a team to make sure that the game is bug free, which generally it is compared to other MMOs, and to make sure that the is welcoming to new players. Once the patch goes live it is ment to contain a new intro for first time gamers so help ease them in to the game, which is fantastic.

Of course the game isn't for everyone, but if your a seasoned MMO gamer then taking a look at Eve would be a good idea as it contains some great features that other companies could learn from.

Eve is slooooow. Very sloooooow. You can't "power level" at all, as all of your skills are set on timers, and you can only train one skill at a time. The high level skills take weeks to train. I hear that after about 6 months to a year (depending on how you trained up your learning skills, which of course speed up your other skills times) the game gets very interesting. You can join player corporations (guilds) and the corps can form alliances with other corps and take over regions of space. Sounded great, but I just could not get past the training times.

It is very slow indeed, and all the better for it. :)

its is one of the better mmorpgs out there its one of the more friendlier games to new people.

in other mmorpg games out there lvl 10 player has no chance vs a player who is at lvl80 without leveling up 60-70 more lvls.

in eve a player that is only a month or two old can take on a player who played the game for over a year and have a fighting chance. you dont need a big ship or a top of the line weapons to be a very important part of the group/fleet.

if you never seen what eve is like

here is a sample of our allience promo video, one of the smaller alliances with about 900 people

I hate Eve, it's such a mess of a online game and CCP continually ignore the players while going on to do their own thing with the game.

It started out like a great idea ("Frontier: Elite in online form? Holy shit!") and then degenerated over the years during testing and beta, finally settling down into a totally crappy farming MMO with griefers and grinding.

By default I guess I really should love the game, being Icelandic and all... but I don't. Those guys suck.

I saw the video.

I'm bad enough at space sim as it is. It's way too complex for a broad audience.

Seriously, if you think WoW is a grind, play EVE, and understand the true meaning of the word.

EVE has the most well-educated community I've ever seen in an online game. Everyone is dedicated, well organized and hardcore, not to mention extremely nice. People will actually go out of their way to help new players, buy them ships, weapons and teach them the basics. The community is alo made up of players from all over the world, so there's a ton of diversity.

The only downfall is that the game requires time, A LOT OF TIME. It also has an extremely slow pace. If you're gonna play this, expect it to be the only game you dedicate your free time to, period.

Edit: By the way, if possible, could someone post a movie of the new jumpdrives in action? The ones equipped on the new Dreanaught ships. I gotta see how they work.

Poeple in EVE are addicted... you can spend days in the game with out realise it... (thanks god for downtime)

70% of the game is PVP people you can be safe in empire build Moon bases and other stuff and be rich

but the fun is PVP

PVP will make you poor but is fun ride

join a good corp that is in a big allience and you will love it...

people that are noobs do thing that take hours and get nothing when there are solo.... me after 2 years... i can make in 15 MIN the amound of money that the noob would in 1 month play :P

This video is more geared towards showing what EVE is about to people who don't actually play it.
