I just wanted to leave a little note for all of you who went out on the first day and purchased DICE's new modern combat shooter, Battlefield 2.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. The usual cause of this error is if you have outdated drivers for your motherboard, video card and / or sound card or if you have an older CDRW drive. Some of the older CDRW drives have problems with the copy protection on modern CD's.

You can also see it less often if you have both a CDRW and a CD-ROM drive and one or both of them are older drives.

The best solution is to buy a new drive (I got a 52x CD-ROM dive from Fry's Electronics for $9.99 a few months ago.), because that will eliminate the issue with all your current and future titles. Otherwise, disconnect the second drive (if you have two) or try updating your motherboard drivers.

I've been playing it all day long. The demo didn't crash as often as this does, though.

I've got full exp for my next rank---but it isn't increasing my rank for some reason, not sure how that is suppose to work.

All I know is I had to uninstall CloneCD... CloneDVD.. AnyDVD... Daemon tools to get it to work, for the game recognized I had a cd/dvd emulator. I hate to say it.. but F U EA... Even shutting the process did not "allow" the game to run...

This feels like my hand was slapped.... My bud mentioned he was running Alcohol 120 with no issues, so I might give that another go... or try Daemon again..

Lucky EA that I like playing this game...... if I ever see you on the street.... Wet Willy waiting for you!

The game is a good time when you're on a good server... But for the love of freaking God, EA, fix the server browser NOW. A game that's intended primarily online play has no excuse for having such a buggy and feature lacking in-game server browser. No excuse. None.

EA did comment last week (in an IRC Interview) that the server browser was being worked on.

This game goes down more often than a $2 thai hooker... or some other such analogy. Game CTDed on me last night at least 4 times. No error log, no error message, nothing. How can modern game developers NOT code in automatic bug reporting features? LAZY. (Most crashes seem related to map switching or loss of connection, if your connection gets stuffed, the game doesn't seem to handle it gracefully).

The extra kit you can play with (specifically new AAA vehicles and stationary TOW missle launchers) are awesome.

The server browser is absolutely terrible. No favorites list, horrible refresh times, and about 90% of the time, the game I try to join is full, regardless of how many players the browser says are on the server.

Apart from the server browser, and a couple of random disconnects, I'm having the time of my life.

Has anybody gained rank yet? I gained Basic Combat Medic rank, but I'm not sure if it saved or carried over - I saw multiple people complaining they'd received ranks 5 or 6 times without them being saved. Anybody know where to check your ranks/medals?

You really arent missing anything Evil, wait for a few patches and the game should be golden. Until then, you're missing net code that makes the game three steps below unplayable, a server browser designed by a retarded wombat, and an interface which begs to be shat on.

I don't even care about the browser right now, having too much fun on a private server. Man this game rocks. Only thing I need is to get my headset replaced, the mic's broken. Then this game would be 100% unadulterated fun.

So far, I've played about half my time on ranked servers, and the other half on unranked. The ranked servers definitely seem to have the better crowd - those who work in squads, revive, repair, etc., instead of just camping vehicle spawns.

But the original BF1942 started out that way - everyone serious and helping each other out - so maybe BF2 will degenerate into the same team-killing, plane-camping leet dude orgy.

The game itself- so incredibly fun. I've had great games with 64 players and enjoyed myself just as much with 10 players. It seems like the balance is much better in this game, out of the box, than it was in 1942, DC or BFV.

But running a server is a nightmare, they haven't released the GUI server manager so all of us admins who want to play are busy typing in long command lines just to kick people. It could be worse, we're all just spoiled having had the superior Black Bag Ops tool for 1942 and DC for so long. We've experienced some major bugs with VOIP (sometimes works, sometimes doesn't) and team autobalance. These are all issues that will be cured soon, so we can all go back to having fun again.

Oh, and just to keep the love-fest going: fuck all y'all.

I have not had any problems with disconnects and the browser works just fine for me. It sucks, but it works. I was with an awesome squad last night and it was amazing.

I feel ripped off and let down after having played the demo and having it run so smooth online then buying the game and logging out in frustration because of the 26.6 dial up modem gameplay I was offered. I had a freaking 22 ping for fricks sake. They need to get their crap in order and soon, or this will just be another shelved failure like a number of others.......

I had the same issue. Try playing on unranked servers, just uncheck the Ranked on the filter. I was in a Ranked server last night with a 35 ping and played as if I was 150+...damn near unplayable.

The game rox. Sorry haters....but sometimes a game can be fun enough to overcome all the little nits that you can throw at it. The squad feature alone has helped the teamwork dynamic immensely - already. I can't wait until more people get used to it. This game has taken this genre to a new level.

i tried the the demo and all i found was:

1) team killing
2) disconnected of a game for no reason
3) NO ONE formed squads (just running around like head-less chickens killing each other)
4) decent performance at medium settings (rade8500 512r)
5) i discovered how fun it is to crash a jet by mistake

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one with a great ping, but so much lag it hurts. I love the Chinese group, especially their anti-air tank. This thing fires rapid explosive rounds and has 4 rocket launchers that can lock onto aircraft. Quite a bit of fun. I hope any patches aren't too far off though.

I had to turn down my graphic setting just a tad in the full version but other than that, it runs great for me. My only real complaint is that the VOIP is pretty buggy. It was working fine for me the other day but now I can't get it to work. Very annoying since when it worked it was actually pretty cool. I like that it lowers the volume of everything else so you can better understand someone talking to you.

VOIP is pretty good. Too bad it couldn't be voice activated aws opposed to push to talk. Lag problems are pretty horrid for me, unless I'm on a 16 player server, but I want to play on the big maps.

Still have yet to figure out the global unlocks. Has anybody managed to get them working yet? I'm playing on ranked servers and kicking ass, but no luck yet getting improved weapons.

Hey outontheporch, check the BF2 tech forum for help. I had the same problem. You have to change the default startup resolution and refresh rates for the game.

I was planning on buying the game but after experiencing the control setup in the demo, I have to wait to see if they patch the issues.

There are keys that are not customizable in the interface, and to me that's unacceptable in a first person shooter, especially one that is being touted as "competitive" and "Ranked". I've had a key layout for 7+ years in FPS games and I can't just un-learn that for one game.

I tried some of the fixes out there that people created but all that does is crash the game for me. sigh.

Ah well, if they fix it, then they'll get my money.

i have complaints about the ranking system not working and the server browser. but thats about it for me.

yeah, the ranking stuff seems to be hit or miss. Sometimes it gets your medals, sometimes it doesn't, etc. There must be specific criteria for when and what a server reports back to the system, and any number of game failures that are currently cropping up(unexplained drop to desktop, over 4 different punkbuster errors---for me at least---, server crashes, etc.)might be grounds for not reporting/recording stats.

My biggest complaint would have to be that there is no way to join a server from the command line with it yet. I just want to use ASE and skip the ingame server broswer. Pretty lame that this is not set up yet.
