Gamecloud has posted an interview (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=400) wiht Epic Games Jeff Morris, talking about the early development stages of Unreal Tournament 2007.

Gamecloud: How does developing the new game with the increased graphical abilities of Unreal Engine 3 affect creating actual gameplay?

Jeff Morris: It is coloring the development of the product acutely, but the graphics impact on game play is fairly minor. This is not to say that UE3 in total hasn’t had a major impact on the game we’re making. The physics engine allows us to provide a new level of dramatic realism to UT2007. We’re now able to apply ragdoll physics to vehicles which permits some pretty spectacular crashes. The new visual scripting language enables our level designers to incorporate map specific features that in previous generations of our technology required significant programmer support. They’re really going nuts with all these different types of events in the levels, with plans for many unique, map specific super weapons. Our new particle editor is enabling the creation of all sorts of special effects that punch up the impact of weapons. UT2007 is a beautiful game, but the aspects of UE3 that get us the most excited from a game play perspective aren’t necessarily focused on rendering.

Damn, I'm pumped for this game. Glad to hear they're going to upgrade the gameplay as well as the graphics, thats something that you don't usually see a whole lot of in sequels.

Now THAT sparked my interest. I love UT2K4, but 2K7 hadn't told me what would actually be new until now. Good to see them moving the formula forward.

This interview got me playing UT2k4 again in anticipation. Sorta weird when that kinda thing happens ;p

So any good mods for this game besides Red Orchestra?

Kismet is the shit. If you give it to talented level designers, yeah-- they're gonna do some crazy stuff. I look forward to future UE3 games.
