The Vox Plebis site has added more Imperator Screenshots for your visual gratification. Imperator is Mythic Entertainment's upcoming MMO that plans to set players in an alternate future in which the Roman Republic never fell, but instead became the dominant culture on Earth as well as throughout much of the galaxy.

i honestly think this looks really interesting, although it doesnt look like it will add much gameplay wise to a tired genre, the setting and style is definantly enough to keep me excited for it.

Definitely a unique setting, I look forward to seeing if they attempt to chronicle the whole of the fictional Roman Empire's continued domination over Earth as the years passed, right up until space exploration and all that.
Then again, I've always had a thing for alternate history.

Step 1: Craft a unique and compelling game universe. [Status: Completed]
Step 2: Reinvent the MMO genre into something resembling a compelling experience. [Status: ?]
I'd really like to see an MMO that took a novel style of play and ran with it as opposed to focusing on the window dressing.

Et to eval??
Is it possible to create an MMOG that isn't supposed to provide an unending game experience? I think I'd like that.

Something I've been looking for for a long time as well. I played my fair share of EQ and WoW, but dropped both of them after getting to the top. I'd be interested in an MMORPG only if it provided a set of servers that would get wiped every 6 months or something.
I think it's impossible to create a real compelling experience as long as the idea is that you're supposed to play it exclusively many hours a day. I can't imagine ANY experience that'd hold the players attention like that (at least not mine), they need to portion out the gameplay like TV shows portion out a plot (although not that slow), if the price was low enough then playing only a few times a month could result in the game staying fresh for years.

One thing we know is Mythic has a lot of experience now with server stability, network performance when it comes to large ammount of clients per zone and their art deparment has a nice style to it. Regardless of the DAOC bashing (which I participate in myself, even after playing the damn game for 2 years), Mythic is a pretty kick ass company.
I will watch this closely.

The plot isn't as unique as it may sound. Robert Silverberg actually has the same premise for his "Roma Eterna" books.
I'm all for ancient Rome, it was an amazing civilization... but these alternate-universe things are getting a little cliched.

Still it's a might better than swords and sorcery eh?

I'm generally interested in beta testing/free trial of any MMO. The 10-14 days is usually all I need to fullfill my wants and needs of an "unending" story and everything else MMORPG. A hard initial binge, followed by anti-climatic higher-level grind, then I drop it for the last 2 days of the trial/test. I could definately give this a whirl under those circumstances. Probably not what a developer probably wants to hear, but maybe if the game was free or I dunno, fresh. Who knows, could be either.
Edit: Oh, and where is my western MMO? Talk about a completely looked over genre, even with a steampunk universe. I think a western MMO could definately bring me to the servers. Not parallel Roman Empire (that didn't really fall, in reality.)
