Socom Confrontation Announced for PSN

Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sony-announces-socom-confrontation-for-ps3/) also has the scoop on an upcoming download only title for the PS3 set in the SOCOM universe.Supporting up to 32 players in battle, Confrontation will launch with five North African themed maps, with further map packs becoming available for download in the PlayStation Store. Outside of conflict, the game will allow you to set up tournaments and clans, access leader boards and completely customize your soldier's appearance. Generally, you'll want to go with a constant frown on that virtual mug. Blissfully smiling soldiers are just begging for bullets, you know.

North African theme? Looks more like another middle eastern shooter to me. Seriously this is getting old fast. It seems like middle eastern terrorists are the new nazis for game companies that develops action games theese days. Really sad, come up with something new please.

Hopefully they don't try to speed up the game and they keep the stealth and tactical elements firmly in place.

I've never been a big fan of the SOCOM games. I bought the second one, but never got into it. If this is cheap enough, and offers a good multiplayer experience though, I'd check it out.

I played SOCOM 1 to death online. But now that I've played other online shooters like R6 the gameplay of SOCOM doesn't hold up. They definitely have their work cut out for them. And I really think the idea of charging for expansion maps (probably multiple sets) is really going to add up to an expensive game to play.
