Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgd-07-joystiq-hands-on-with-heavenly-sword/) has some hands-on impressions (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/sgd-07-joystiq-hands-on-with-heavenly-sword/) with Heavenly Sword from Sony's Gamers Day.Once you pull out her weapons and start fighting, you can see why people can't help but compare this to God of War. Nariko moves at a frenetic pace and fights in a style that is similar to Kratos' -- she's even equipped with blades tethered to chains. She whips them through the air for ranged attacks, but we found that they also can help clear out some space around you if you find yourself cornered by baddies.

She does do a few things differently, however, and is much more graceful. For instance, when she jumps the tip of her blade goes into the ground and she uses it as a balance point to continue flipping over. She has long, flowing, red hair that is almost a character by itself, and it reacts to all the in-game physics. Crazy hair, for sure.

Can't wait to check this one out for sure, even if it is a God of War clone. Is that necessarily a bad thing?

Not a bad thing at all. Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net./article.php?article_id=76472) has a very indepth interview with the developers, including some hints at multiplayer being added later.

Well, personally, I don't think the basic gameplay of God of War is what made it successful. It had an extreme level of polish and care put into it, and if you dedicate that kind of effort to a game, generally people will respond positively. So, the real question is if the developer is motivated to polish the shit out of this game, and if Sony is going to allow them the time they need to do it?

Check out the interview I linked to. They seem to be taking their time to get everything right and put that polish on there. Hell, the game was originally supposed to come out in February/March.

Looks great. This game + a price drop on the PS3 and I'll have a hard time resisting.

Word.

A good PS3 God Of War clone would not be a bad thing in any way.

And God of War is just a Puff Daddy version of half a million brawlers, Rygar, Devil May Cry, Buffy, Tomb Raider, you name it, it's in there.

I think the best way I'll enjoy Heavenly Sword is if I keep my expectations low. I can see myself picking this up.

This, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. What to choose....http://mazeguy.net/surprised/puzzled.gif

I don't understand. You're calling Heavenly Sword a shitty record producer turned shitty rapper with a mixture of action games?

The game looks amazing but they keep showing "arena" fighting areas. I hope the whole game isn't fighting dudes in small areas with cut scenes that move you from new area to new area.

Oh man. I feel really bad after watching that footage on Joystiq. That game looks so uninteresting. Personally, I like feeling like a badass and being a flashy showoff when I play games like this. But those demos were missing ALL of that. The game was pretty but so far it doesn't look like FUN TO PLAY

I can just imagine the guys behind this game four years from now bitching about previews made from that footage on a 1up podcast. Stop showing these undercooked turkeys, people. While i DO understand this is far from a finished product, I can't help what my eyes see before me.

And didn't this chick used to look hot?

I feel they should have held this back for another day. I mean, with E3 a month away it's probably going to be the same demo. God, fighting looks like a chore. Luckily for them the impressions are split down the middle. I saw some people commenting (on Joystiq) that the game looked fun.

I say give it another nine months to a year. What's the hurry?

Did they actually get the hair right? That's what disappointed me looking at the DOAX2 vidoes. The models themselves look great, but the hair looks like freaking paper. Really breaks the entire mood of the game to see hair clipping all over the place and moving as one thin blob.

Ha ... Ha...

No, I'm saying Jaffe & God of War are like what Diddy is to pop. He rapes & recycles the past, taking various old things and blatantly makes money off them in a recycled manner, because people are too dumb to look back a decade or at genres other than the one in their face. If you'd like, we can use a Wolfmother analogy, if you understand that one better, because they regurgitate songs of old, just as much.

So, if Heavenly Sword is a rip-off/remix/recycle of God of War, then Heavenly Sword is like a twice re-microwaved chicken McNugget. :p

Anyway, I like some food re-heated, so I'm gonna keep an eye out on this one, even if it is just "more of the same".
