Sony confirmed that the multiplayer-only Warhawk will see a simultaneous release both at retain and and via the PlayStation Store. In addition to the game itself, the Blu-ray Disc sold at stores will include a Bluetooth headset for in-game chat as well as a number of game demos and video content to compel retail buyers to check out the online store. Though the game is not expected for full release until the fall, a public beta for Warhawk will begin on May 24. SCEA released several new Warhawk screens, showing off the game's enemy faction for the first time.
Speaking of the PlayStation Store, also announced was SOCOM Confrontation, a multiplayer-only title that will be sold through the online service. It marks the SOCOM series' debut on PlayStation 3. SOCOM Confrontation is developed by Vancouver-based Slant Six Studios, the company responsible for providing technical consultation to Sony Bend's Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (PSP) and developing the upcoming PSP real-time strategy game SOCOM Tactical Strike. Allowing up to 32 players simultaneously, the game will be supported with regular online content packs, which will add new themes, modes, equipment, and options. SOCOM Confrontation is set to ship this fall, with more of the game to be shown at E3 in July. In addition to the announcement, Sony released a handful of screenshots.
On the subject of online stores, the long-awaited PSP online store was briefly mentioned by SCEA president Jack Tretton, who admitted such a service should have premiered long ago. "I think the advent of a long awaited and quite frankly long overdue ability to deliver a downloadable service for the PSP will help us out a great deal," he said. "Hopefully we'll have it out there by the fall." No other details were discussed.
Game Republic's unique collection-oriented PlayStation 3 action RPG announced as Monster Kingdom: Unknown Realm has received a quiet renaming to the much more succinct Folklore. A few new Folklore screenshots showcasing the title's stylish look were released.

It's Hideo. He can ask SCEA for a million dollars and I'm sure they'll give it to him in a briefcase plated in gold. That man can get away with anything.

Uncharted is, it's done by Naughty Dog (they're first party). LBP and HS aren't internal, but they're Sony published titles (like GoW is for MS). As far as R&C (also Sony published), while Insomniac isn't first party, they haven't done a gaime for a non-Sony platform in as long as I can remmeber (if ever at all).

So heavenly sword is God of war where you can pick up garbage and throw it and it DOESN'T have a combo counter, good show sony.
R&C series always felt like a cheap attempt at making Mario or even a Banjo clone but it just fails with its repetitive combat. Also the levels are more frustrating than challenging also where they fail. You get tons of "cool" weapons that level up and the leveling up never seems to matter because theres still is a complete lack of challenge.
So Pain is a spinoff of that tech demo where you crash the dummy into a wall in a car? that thing was amusing for about 10 mins, the trailer was pretty bad, it didn't make it seem possible to have fun with the game for hours at a time.

Seriously though Sony just isn't bringing much to the table for the ps3, 360 has had a better year with their mediocre titles mainly because of the live connectivity, probably saves their ass quite a bit.
God of War 1 & 2 were fun but something which is carbon copy w/o the combo system which is what makes GoW fun, doesn't look like a good game.

The games look good to me. With a little luck, at least two or three of those will turn out really good.
Seriously though Sony just isn't bringing much to the table for the ps3
What about LittleBigPlanet? If that stays PS3 exclusive (I think we can assume it will at this point), it'll be very different from anything else on the 360. Impressions on sites like Joystiq have been very positive. Seriously, I understand people love their 360s (I do) and that any line-up Sony can realistically produce at this point is still going to make the PS3 a difficult sell. But the line-up looks very solid to me. Not "I'm gonna rush out to purchase a PS3" solid, but nonetheless having its own share of promising games. They have the quirky unique stuff, its fair share of content (old and new intellectual properties) and developers with proven track records.

ph00p, you highlight a huge difference in opinion. I feel almost exactly the opposite. With the exception of BioShock, the 360 lineup to me is incredibly unimpressive this fall. On the other hand, the first party games alone that are being shown here make me very happy to be a PS3 owner later this year. Neither view is "the right one", they're both opinions, there is no right or wrong.
EDIT : And I'll never understand the motivation some people feel to go into a thread about games they obviouisly don't care about just to voice their apathy. I couldn't possibly care any less about Halo 3, but you don't see me jumping into threads discussing the game voicing my opinion about how I don't see anything specail about the series. It just seems pointless and needlessly confrontational.

Could someone explain to me what makes LittleBigPlanet so big and why I should want it? I've read the impressions and seen the screens but perhaps it's just not that appealing to me at the moment. Maybe it's one of those games I need to get my hands on and see how it plays for myself.
Warhawk looks great, I didn't really play the first one much but I love the multiplayer aspect of this title. As I tend to love shooters that have that battlefield style, i'm sure this game is something that I would buy right away when I pick up a PS3 in the future.
The other games listed, don't really appeal to me at the moment. Lair looks nice, but it's not a game I have to have. There's little on the PS3 coming in the near future that makes me "want" to have it.
Home looks intersting, I wonder how things will work in terms of arcade game spots being filled when the system is live. IGN said in there article that they had to wait till someone left the lanes in order to try the bowling game, and I would hate to have to change instances with my friends to find a lane somewhere.

Well it doesn't kick ass...at least not yet. It has the potential to kick ass. And these games can assist in the ass kicking. But the ass hasn't been kicked yet, we have to wait for the fall for the kicking to actually begin.

I agree. The games just aren't out for it yet that would compel me to pay $600 + tax for the PS3. There really has to be a truckload of them to make that purchase make sense to me. I'm thinking Xmas 2008 still, and I'm hoping the PS3 will cost $400 by then.
Still, I'm really pleased that there are a few new exclusives being shown at the event. It's not a truckload, but it is a trickle.

Warhawk interested me a ton until I heard all the complaints about the controls. I will wait and see on that one. Home sounded awesome but did I hear right that it will only be 64 people in your area on at any time? That destroys it for me. I will have to see if that was just a rumor. I was excited about Uncharted but something about the trailer just looked crap to me. I am hoping that R&C is cool. That one could be fun for sure. Thats what I am banking on.

Outside of 2 or 3 games on that list, the lineup so far looks unimpressive. Sega Rally Revo could use a lot of work before I come to any decisions about whether I want the game or not.

We have three very clear console choices this generation:
1. A system that has some terrific games, a great online service, and it breaks. Repeatedly.
2. A system that doesn't break, but doesn't have many games. Yet.
3. A system that can't be found.
You figure out which is which! :D

The first game did, this is the sequel that was until now only confirmed to be coming out in Europe. I enjoyed the first game a lot, despite the strange difficulty spikes and awful (and thankfully very infrequant) on foot segments.

My bad, I didn't even notice the subtitle. The core of the game is really fun, they just need to tighten everything up, which shouldn't be too difficult.
