In a statement on the official World of Warcraft website (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general&t=3698633&p=1&tmp=1#post3698633) outlaying what the future holds for WoW, lead producer Shane Dabiri confirmed the long rumored fact that a World of Warcraft expansion pack is indeed in the works. No details were revealed, but Shane simply stated :
Some have asked about an expansion and what it might hold. I wanted to let players know that it is in the works, and we’ll release details as soon as we can. Thanks to WorthPlaying (http://www.worthplaying.com) for the scoop...

Are you saying Blizzard is making an EXPANTION pack for World of WarCraft? I never saw that coming!

I'm guessing Northrend for the first expansion. No new races or classes, but lots of new zones, quests, gear, and possibly hero classes.

Do you have any idea what the Hero Class deals with? I've heard it tossed around on some of the WoW boards but nothing other than they might be put in the expansion pack of added in a future patch.
Would love to see the ability to get a sub profession a la Guild Wars or FF XI. That was one of the things I really liked about Square-Enix's game: the ability to add a new 'job' to your character in order to further diversify them and set you apart from everyone else. I'd love the opportunity to play a Hunter/Druid (nature build of some sort) or even a strange Hunter/Priest hybrid in order to give myself more soloing ability. Pipe-dream, I'm sure, but one can hope.
I would think if they would have new races the alliance would get white elves(Think blood elf race), but what would Hord get? The races left for Hord are kind of lame.
In any case id agree with an above poster that they likely will not have new races.
I want to play a Goblin :)

No one really knows. Bliz has released no real info on this except that it's a way of progression past 60 (or whatever the level cap will be if the expansion raises it, which I'm willing to bet on).
I for on am excited. I've been saying for months now that I bet they'll have the first ex-pack out by Christmas, in time for the 1-year anniversary.

I also suspect that getting a Hero will be similar to becoming a Jedi in SWG, you probably have to do some quests to open up the super-secret Hero slot...

Well, I probably won't buy an expansion without new races/classes. I'd actually probably quit the game and move on to something different. We need Pandarens, Blood Elves, and yes -Goblins-. I know they're neutral, but dammit they're one of the coolest races in the game and we can't play as them. That's stupid -.-
Personally, I'd like them to introduce a neutral faction that could choose sides in different situations. But really, it's a bit late for that, since that is where the Nightelves and Undead should be too. Oh well... just add a couple of new races and I'll be happy.

The tone of discussions of hero classes makes it seem more like an extension of your already existing character, not opening up a new super-class, ala City of Heroes. but I guess time will tell.

Yes, most people agree that Hero Classes will be like "new levels" added onto your current character. But I'd like to know how they're going to keep oversaturation down.... We don't want to see every Dwarven Warrior turning into a Mountain King.

chances are, like someone else mentioned, there will be some tough quests to get through. I imagine these will involve some soloable stuff, some group stuff, and probably even some drops that are only available through raids. So at the very least you'll hopefully have to be not only end-game but end-game with some time devotion to really get a hero class.

Nerubians would make an interesting new race, not sure how they'd work out some of the logistics of weapon and armor types.
As for Hero classes, I hope they use some of the awesome concept art Samwise (http://www.sonsofthestorm.com/) made for what seem to be rather epic classes, like the Orc Gladiator and High Elf War Mage.

Anybody else here wish they would increase the usefulness of some of the crafting professions? I really wish that blacksmiths could repair and enhance armor, and what's up with no player created shields? I also wish that fishing/cooking was more useful.

My wishlist:
Better options for grouping (like in CoH)
Dying of armor (to increase different looks)
"Recall" items to quickly return to place of death (it is just a bore walking/floating so much when dead)

Hopefully, but I have doubts. every time it's been brought up on the forums, they say they plan to add more to crafting, but want it to be secondary to actual dropped loot no matter what. Giving smiths the ability to enhance weapons/armor instead of just creating it is a great idea, though.

1. Possible. Not sure what you mean exactly.
2. Hopefully. Adding dying ability in this game would be great.
3. Unlikely. Death penalties are already small enough without taking away the small walk. If you really don't want to walk that badly, you can just take the armor hit.

Yes, I expect Blizzard to be selfless and not profit! What the hell is their problem? Why especially since they're planning to release this half-assed excuse for an expansion that we don't even know a thing about! How dare they?! Hell!

Now, I'm not going to shoot down Blizzard for making money here, but, uh:
1) Buy game for 60 dollars.
2) Pay 20 dollar monthly fee.
3) Buy expansion pack.
Then you have NCSoft:
1) Buy game for 60 dollars.
2) Buy expansion pack.
I can understand Blizzard making money off of their stuff, but please explain to me why other companies don't require monthly fee's for extremely similar games, with very close playerbases. These companies are also not in the red.

I love Guild Wars as much as the next guy but you really can't compare the two games.
I'm a bit concerned with Blizzard's community support however. If you read their offical forums there's a 40 page long thread where people have apparently experienced a bug with battlegrounds that cause them to lose like 10 ranks of honor after killing one civilian. There hasn't been an official response at all. Anyone know what's up with this?

That's not NCSoft. It's just one game, Guild Wars. If you look at any other game in NCSoft's roster (CoH, Lineage 2, and likely Auto Assault) you'll be paying a monthly fee and for the expansion. Anyways, Guild Wars, as much as I like it, is a MUCH simpler game than WoW, at least as far as content goes. Fun, definitely, but hardly the norm for an MMORPG in terms of complexity and amount of things to do. Calling GW "extremely similar" to WoW is a pretty big stretch.
And, after all, Blizzard doesn't charge monthly fees for any of its other Battle.net games, like Diablo 2 (which is much more like GW than WoW), Starcraft, and Warcraft 3. So...

Oh jesus, I could not agree more.
