With Square Enix's little event less than a week away now, we're finally getting some details as to what we're going to be seeing from the RPG giant. The first announcement? A new Final Fantasy game for the PSP subtitled Dissidia (latin for disagree). Right now all we have is a teaser site (http://www.square-enix.co.jp/dissidia/) and a logo that looks to feature Shiva and Ifrit. The site only has the two phrases "Fantasy is endless." and "Fantasy has no limited form.".

From IGN (http://psp.ign.com/articles/786/786293p1.html)
Square Enix opened up a teaser page for Final Fantasy Dissidia, a PSP game that the company's official website lists as being part of the FF series' 20th anniversary (a series that also includes PSP remakes of the first two Final Fantasy games).

The teaser page provides few actual details on the game, aside from a logo and a copyright notice indicating that Tetsuya Nomura is a character designer for the title. The game may not be an RPG, as its genre is listed as "Dramatic Progressive Action." A Japanese release date is marked as TBA.

Square Enix is really showing some strong support for that widescreened little portable. Hopefully we'll find out some concrete details at their Square Enix Party 2007 coming up on May 12th. How about some Dragon Quest lovin'?

I'd wager that Dragon Quest is fully in Nintendo's pocket for the time being. They'll milk that cow before moving on to anything else.

I'd like to see DQ on the PSP, but I'd be fine with some on the DS as well. Maybe that DQIV remake that never made it over here from the PS1.

From what's at the teaser sight, Shiva and Ifrit probably indicate that the focus of the game may be on summons or a sort of theme involving them.

Message too short, blah blah blah....

More details from IGN (http://psp.ign.com/articles/786/786628p1.html) :
The veil of secrecy has come off of Final Fantasy Dissidia, this week's surprise PSP announcement. While we previously had nothing more than just a name and a teaser website for the game, the latest issue of Jump Magazine has provided first details on the characters and gameplay systems.

Dissidia seems like it could be the perfect way to celebrate the Final Fantasy 20th anniversary, as it brings together characters from past entries. Jump offers a look at just two members of the cast. Making an appearance from Final Fantasy I is Warrior of Light. From Final Fantasy IX comes Zidane Tribal. Jump also reveals that Kuja, one of the villains from FFIX, will make an appearance.

Square Enix originally described Dissidia as a Progressive Action game. We're still not sure what the progressive part means, but the action part of the equation is pretty clear. The game features close-range combat on a 3D battle field, complete with jumping and special skills.
