OXM (UK) (http://www.oxm.co.uk/articles/news/hardware/double_dragon_punches_onto_xbla!) is reporting that brawling classic Double Dragon has been confirmed for Xbox Live Arcade, along with Tempest, Missile Command and Asteroids.
After months and months the wait for XBLA Double Dragon is almost over, as publisher Empire Interactive confirms the bruiser will be arriving on Xbox Live Marketplace next week.
The Arcade version is set to feature both an untouched arcade port and a new version with updated graphics and sound.
In case you've got no idea what we're talking about, Double Dragon is a classic side-scrolling beat-em-up set in the city of Detroit. Brothers Billy and Jimmy Lee, masters of a mystical martial art, travel the streets beating up rival gangs and generally being badass dudes.
I spent so much time and money on this in the arcades! Please don't disappoint me.

I thought that was confirmed a long time ago. Tempest seems a bit redundant with Space Giraffe on the way, or am I mistaken?? Asteroids and MC don't excite me either. But the more games the merrier. At least it's 10 minutes well spent playing a demo:P

I definately like the sound of that. I've been looking forward to Double Dragon for some time as well as Asteroids. Hopefully there won't be any price-gouging with these games either...

This was my first coin-op addiction. I remember I got so good at it I just put one 10p in and beating it. :D
Must buy for me.

Yeah double dragon spawned all those games like bad dudes, final fight, river city ransom, ect...
Personally I loved DD3 for the nes and thought it was the pinacle of DD goodness.

The elbow is like a nuclear weapon.
Hope the online co-op fares better than Contra's...
Edit: My post count is MADNESS!

I dont know, after TMNT and Contra, I am finding these games don't live up well to my memories. The just seem so damned, well... simple. Castlevania held up much better though.
1942 is the game I am waiting for!
Man, Double Dragon's been up there so long, I didn't realize it hadn't come out.
I tell you, some things are better off left as "fond memories". Double Dragon feels pretty clunky, and I love retro games.
It may have a fond place in our hearts, but considering you can probably pick up a backwards-compatible copy of Buffy nowadays for $15, I'd say that's money better spent on a better brawler.
Although... the thought of co-op online sounds interesting. If it's 400p, and even then, it does still feel stiff.

Right on, I'll download that. Catan and the Millipede/Centipede combo didn't do anything for me, but Double Dragon will do just fine.

Hair grab + (Knee to face * 3) + Shoulder flip = Gamer glee.

True that. Though jump kicking some asshole in the face is also groovy.

Dude, if the 1942, 1943 games come out...wow...I don't know how much money I used to pump into that machine at the local tavern when I was little. I still go to a friends house and we play Strikers 1945 on PSX and still have a blast

This is good news, I remember just throwing elbows left and right, over and over. $10 or under guarantees my purchase.

I remember just throwing elbows left and right, over and over.
The elbows were cheap victories; you could count on them to do the job, but after a while I felt they were unsatisfying. What's the fun in the game if you don't take a little risk every once in a while? That's when I started experimenting with daring and not-so-safe ways of causing pain to the legions of baddies heading my way.
It wasn't until I played this game until I really understood Batman.

I would prefer a Streets of Rage port, but this should be fun.
Sega should really be hooking up with MS and starting like a Sega store front on Xbox Live.

Tempest is the single reason I keep my atari jaguar around. Now I can take the 64bit gaming monster and put it away in the closet!

Buffy? pfffft! Its all about The Warriors for all your modern brawler needs. Not to mention the Double Dragon-esque mini game you get to unlock.

Obviously another clown who was "too manly" to actually play Buffy and understand how good it was.
Nevertheless, Buffy IS backwards compat and thus playable on your 360, while Warriors... not... as a matter of fact, was there even an XBox version of Warriors? :p
But Streets of Rage rules them all. If they threw Streets 2 up there, I'd be all over it in a heartbeat! For now, co-op Double Dragon over Live will do... although I really wish it had a cameo by Alyssa Milano. ;)
