Mystery Sega Game To Be Unveiled

Sega Nerds, a pretty good Sega blog, has this blurb up on their website:
Hideki Okamura revealed to the bussiness magazine Nikkei Bussiness Publications that Sega plans to reveal this year, “a major title” in Japan which will and I quote “surprise everyone”. Nothing else was revealed.

It's either Daytona USA 3 or Shenmue 3. Hopefully, it's both. ^_^

One good thing about Sega... any "mystery" game of theirs will just be the update of an old franchise. Sega is incapable of developing a new franchise.

It is most definitely worth playing. If I remember correctly, you only have to work at the crate job for one day. After that, it's entirely optional. I did not realize this my first time through the game either.

Shenmue 2 was awesome, if you loved the first one you should definitely play the second.

I played almost until the end, but I got too worked up during a fight and yanked out the controller - which somehow completely screwed up my save data on the VMU. I was heartbroken, and I couldn't be bothered to play the whole game through again.

Like many Shenmue fans, I'm totally lacking a sense of closure in my life.

Shenmue 2 is fantastic. There aren't many places where you have to do stuff like that. It's one of my favorite DC games of all time. I even bought it again on Xbox (though I got it cheap).

It pains me to say it, as I love the series, but there's no way Sega-Sammy Holdings or whatever it's called now will release Shenmue 3. The first two did not sell. But if they do announce Shenmue 3, I'll buy whatever console it's coming to.

I highly recommend playing the Dreamcast version of Shenmue 2 over the Xbox version, if only to avoid the absolutely atrocious English voice acting. It's a delight to play on the DC.

I agree with most of you. Aside from a new, mystery IP that Sega might be developing, the only games that I would be super excited about would be Shenmue 3 (finish the story, already!), Panzer Dragoon something (Saga 2 would be nice, or something in the veins of Orta), Skies of Arcadia 2 (now with less random battles) and Jet Set Radio 3 would sell me a 360 (assuming they made it for 360).

Oh, and I'm with Sazime. I'm getting sick of these announcements of announcements. I can kind of get behind a countdown site if there is something tangible at the end of a countdown (like the GTA IV trailer) but I'd rather they just say, "Here's our new game. Isn't it COOL?" instead of "Hey, we're going to tell you about our new game... BUT NOT UNTIL FRIDAY!"

Granted, I guess these announcement announcements drum up more interest in the company, hence threads like this where we all get excited about what it could be.

Just to remind people, this rumor is dated February 22nd, so they were most likely referring to NiGHTs 2.

In response to miscellaneous speculations:

-Seaman 2 was already announced in Japan.
-Condemned was only published by Sega, and was not a huge success in Japan. While there are rumors of a sequel, Sega would be unlikely to promise that such an announcement would "surprise everyone" in Japan.
-Damn you all for making me want countless Sega titles that will never happen.

last time that I remember them announcing a mystery game it was Sega Soccer Slam and I remember being disappointed with the news and then the game came out and was fucking awesome.

Of course, Sega wasn't owned by Sammy back then and they still had their development studios. I doubt they even have smilebit, or at least the talented people on smilebit.
