Good Weekend to Everyone! I will still be playing my City of Heroes free account this weekend since I have only a few days left. It is interesting still... More on that later. What will you be playing this weekend? For you dads out there, what games have you been hinting at for Father's Day tomorrow? Or if your dad games, what game will you be buying him? Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. May you have a Sunday of Great Gaming with the kids!

I'm currently on a business trip in Mexico, so before I left I loaded up Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds and Warcraft III - couple of old games I thought I'd try out again while I'm holed up in the hotel all weekend. Also brought along the GBA, so some Star Wars: Ep3 will be played along with possibly some Mega Man Zero, Metroid Zero Mission, Wario Ware, and some Racing Gears Advance.

* Zelda Ocarina of Time with Federelli Kman's HI-Res-texture Pack and TruFrom (looks awesome) in nice 1600x1200, emulation rules! (i do own the original game and console)
* Soul Calibur 1 on Chankast, another great emulator, the game looks amazing in 1280x1024, if you can dump the BIOS of your dreamcast and make an iso of your original game disc, its worth the trouble!
* a bit of Need for Speed U2 Online, if you see a black non turbo GTO with no body kits or rims or neons thats me :p
* God of War ... awesome game!

Probably going to play some WoW and maybe try to finish San Andreas. Maybe I'll play some Guildwars too, for some reason I just can't get into that game. Theorhetically I absolutely love the game, but for some reason I never want to play it.

Mega Man Battle Network 5: Team Colonel and Dragonball Advance Adventure. Both on the GBA. Loving both of them, especially BN, it has tons of new ideas thrown in that really put the core mechanics of the game to good use. I am also plain gay for Mega Man :(

I gave my father the Band of Brothers collection today. I'm a good son. Last month for his birthday he received the Deadwood season 1 from me. Talk about being pampered.
I'm going to be playing GTA:SA on PC. Holy crap is this game head and shoulders above the console versions. I have the game on PS2 so i loaded it up and it appeared horrid. i dont know why it's so dark, and hard to see stuff ...i mean, when i loaded up the Xbox version (i have access to many games, my friend owns a store) i didnt notice a difference at first. Well, thats when i loaded up the PS2 and was astounded. I thought somethign was wrong with my TV. The colors and brightness were just plain ugly. Maybe it's my cables?
Anyway, I then installed the PC version yesterday and I'm blown away at how much prettier and the draw distance makes the game much more enjoyable. My Logitech Dual Action gamepad recreates the PS2 controller perfectly. I didnt bother with the Xbox version after a couple minutes because the controls are excrutiatingly bad. That's why I love the PS2 controller so much--it's so much more versatile. Hopefully the 360 corrects this weakness.
Okay, going back to Los Santos! (and maybe some Rogueport in Paper Mario--and more games on my season of MVP 2005). Adios!

Still plugging away at GTA:SA on PS2 here. PC version sounds sweet, but I'd rather chew my own arm off than repeat some of the races and rhythm games that were required to reach this far in the game. I often put GTA games down for a while when I hit a bottleneck, so they tend to last quite a while for me. I finally made it to Las Venturas (Vegas) so I must be getting sort of close.

Tell me how you like Nocturne. I'm a little turned off by the main focus on battles...meaning you spend most of the game in random encounters. Alot of Megaten games are "dungeon-hacks" though, but i am curious how the constant battling works for you. I want to try it out.
And you must really like Jade Empire. I liked it but was turned off by alot of things. An enjoyable experience but something I really couldnt play through again, at least not right away.

This happened to me too. I only made it to the second city, but I had gained so much gang territory (played for many hours just claiming ground) that it hurts to replay the game from scratch. I might primarily stick to the story-line missions this time, or at first anyway, but then again, this game is so fantastic that I really dont mind going through it again. The GTA games have incredible gameplay in SPADES. LOVE EM!

I did the same thing with the turf wars, but....
HIGLIGHT FOR SPOILERS:
then they took all my territory away when I moved beyond Los Santos (the first city). I was a pissed to see all that effort at ruthlessly crushing the gangs get wiped out. I can't see how it would have hurt the game to let those territories remain mine since the game advanced to a new area altogether. Oh well

My N64 is at my brother's, but I'd really like to play Paper Mario for 64. I tried it with an emulator but it flashed alot and gave me seizures. I cant find an emulator that plays the game without all that headache-inducing buggage. Project 64 is the best, but i think I'm going ot have to call up my brother to pack up the N64 for me. I have no room under my television (GC, DC, PS2, Xbox taking up all the space) but i guess i'll have to try.

I really have no time to play games much. I surf the net at work if I happen to be working a post lucky enough with it, and I have been updating my house. But when I'm at work I usually play Lumines. Absolutely. GW doesn't have near the grind, and has a much more satisfying PvP solution. For people who never played EQ, WoW's probably still worth a shot; if you've already done a significant MMO, hit up GW for a change of pace.

I've played SMT:N before. Back when it was released, I rented it from Gamefly. Back then the challenge of the game and the massive number of other great games coming out forced me to quit partway through. I got just far enough to really want to know what was going on and what would happen, but not far enough to actually find anything out. I'd meant to buy a copy of it, but when I finally got around to having the money with nothing else to buy, I couldn't find the game. It was sheer luck today that I found it, I think.
As for Jade Empire, well, I'm a Bioware fanboy. I pretty much block out any problems I stumble across in their games. I just can't help it, you know? I will say, though, that JE is the best single player Action/RPG I've ever played. Diablo 2 gets the nod for best Multiplayer Action/RPG. Between the two, I'd have to place JE first since for me the story is the most important part of an RPG, and Diablo 2's just doesn't do anything for me.

I've more-or-less finished with star wars: lego. what a great game! and I really should give splinter cell: CT some more time (and check out the MP!) but halo's just more rewarding right now. I've got that riddick game on the back burner too, not even opened it yet and I bought it 3 weeks ago (and I've had 3 weeks off work!).
Only just started forza and had enough already. Pretty disappointed, I don't even think it looks as good as GT4, but then, I'm not a massive car person, so I guess maybe it was doomed from the start...
Edit: Oh yeah, I played a game of Dawn of War the other night and it was great! forgotten how good that game was, so I might have 2 get some of that 'on' !

I found it to be really linear. Of course, most console RPG's are that way, so normally that isnt a problem for me. Not like Bioware's earlier stuff...ahem, Baldur's Gate. I thought JE was a decent game, but if Zelda is an action/RPG then that game series gets the nod for best ever. If Zelda is more adventure/RPG, then I'd even say I enjoyed Fable more. I dont know what it was. The load times hurt a bit in some areas (ahem, ARENA), but i feel that JE was very streamlined and nearly "on rails" with it's linearity. It's also got some frame rate problems (not slowdown, just missing frames) in the battle system. But really, i enjoyed the game, but I just think it was Bioware's weakest effort yet. And I, too, am a Bioware legionaire.
if you like Nocturne, try Digital Devil Saga. I havent played either, but want to. I just need a good excuse to dive into them.

Yes! Paper Mario: TTYD gave me a nostalgic quiver in my belly. I've only played a couple hours but already I remember the great games of yesteryear. I dont know why it brings that warm feeling to me; maybe it has something to do with the refreshing deviation from guns, blood, fast cars, and violence that I've been saturated with for the past decade. Nintendo still can make some of the best, wholesome games in the business.

I've played nothing but the bf2 demo for the past 6 days, with just a touch of counterstrike:source for variety.
Nocturne is pretty good, I'm about 2/3s of the way through it. There ARE lots of random encounters. There is a spell that lets you avoid any of the non-scripted ones---but doing that just leaves you with characters unprepared for the challenges. What I do is use the spell while exploring, then when I have to prepare for a boss battle, I level at the best place I've found while exploring using the opposite spell that increases encounters. Usually there will be a nice exp area that you can tailor your party to always have resist or null to their abilities, making combat go really quickly. Since it is usually the same 1 or 2 rounds per fight, you can use the auto feature and just cruise through it.
I'm playing SMT-DDS at the same time and like it quite a bit better. Mostly the same demons, similar combat system, but with a different approach, completely different story, and better graphics.

Having played City of Heroes for eight months semi-exclusively, I've let my most recent game card run out and am off that for a while.
I'm going to spend my weekend (what there is of it) with San Andreas for Xbox (skipped the PS2 version) and will do some time on The Sims 2 as well (I can really geek out building houses and community lots). Interspersed amongst the gaming will be TiVo catchup. It should be a full, lazy, indoor weekend.

JE is linear, but then KotoR was also mostly linear. If you look at KotoR, once you were on a planet, most people did mostly the same thing in mostly the same order. Bioware hasn't really made a wide open game since the BG2. Their stuff is still great, IMO.
As for Zelda, I see it as an action/adventure game. I find the Zelda systems remind me more of King's Quest then anything else. Zelda games are far more about solving puzzles and exploring like the old adventure games of the 80s. That's the way I view it, anyway.
As for DDS, I do have a copy of it, and I've played some of it. Its similar to SMT:N, but I find that I perfer the style and difficulty of Nocturn over DDS. I just have weird taste when it comes to games.

I'm still dying for someone to make as REAL and interactive a world as Ultima VII: Black Gate. I mean, people got up in the morning, went to work, did their thing, then went home in the evening. It was a living, breathing world filled with NPC's who acted like normal people. That's why it still is my number 1 game of all time. Some companies try to recreate that interaction, but it just hasnt been done. Though Gothic series for PC is very close.
We keep getting better graphics and effects, but I still keep going back to the games like U7 and System Shock for my gameplay fix. Damn EA and their destruction of Origin. Creativity is the corrupt industry's bane, so some seek to destroy it.

Bluntly, if you thought Mario and Luigi was awful, you are a bad human being.
Anyway, Paper Mario 2 is more like a SquarePG than M&L, if that's what you want. It even has the same backtracking-to-extend-length problem. I liked M&L better, but Paper Mario 2 is pretty good.

Bethesda's trying to do this with Oblivian. They're trying to make every NPC do its own thing. Get up in the morning, go to work, go to lunch, go home, have dinner, go to bed, shop, etc. There were still some AI kinks last I heard though.

Hrm, I believe many of the Ultimas were like this.
I have Ultima 9, but never really got far into it due to some bugs. Never downloaded the fan patches or whatever, though. I should try again. It's still installed on my harddrive, as a matter of fact.
Whereas Ultima 6 was the breakout performance for the Ultima series, 7 took that block of fun and honed it to a fine-edged weapon of sweetness. To this day, 7 is still regarded as the best of the Ultimas. 6 really started the immense level of interaction, but 7's interface and attention to item and character detail was unsurpassed and remains that way to this day (though to be fair, Morrowind had alot of stuff to pick up, too. I like that.)

I finally upgraded, so I'm going through older games with the settings maxed out (OFP, Morrowind). I also picked up Doom 3 at last. With the duct tape flashlight addon, it's great fun. Perhaps not an amazing shooter, but a great survival horror game.
BTW, can anyone recommend some good coop games that will run on my old PC as well (P1.4, 1gb RAM Geforce 3)? Stuff that is easy to pick up is preferred. I never played Diablo or Diablo 2, should I start there?

I am playing through Vampire Bloodlines again with the new patch. It really is a good game, I don't often replay games. I might also try finish SC:CT. I still have a half finished Morrowind game I want to finish one day, I have not payed it for about two months though I wonder if I can get back into it.

Not playing much at all since I'm stuck away from my comp this weekend. But I did install Diablo 2 on my mom's somewhat-crappy, just-formatted comp. So that's a nice distraction. Once I get home tomorrow night: WoW and CoH.

I never played Superstar, but I enjoyed the SM RPG AND Paper Mario. Great games.
Is that something involve a chip? ;)
Nah, I'm not big on soldering. It does, however, involve a hard drive and a network adapter.

I LOVE Diablo 2. I've played it far more than any other game ever. But I will warn you, it's only fun if you have friends you know to play with. Lots of fun that way.
With your system specs you could run Dungeon Siege and probably Neverwinter Nights. Though neither was to my liking, they're both co-op (I think) and people love 'em.

Thanks for the tip. Could you tell me why you didn't like NWN? I was also considering it. The person I'll be playing with most often has never gamed on a PC before, but has played a lot of console RPGs.

Well, I'm a huge coop fan and here is what I played when my system was closer to your specs:
1. Diablo II
2. Red Alert II or Yuri's Revenge (some fun coop missions), previous C&C games would probably seem too dated.
3. Dungeon Siege (this one even ran on my P3 800 Laptop)
4. Operation Flashpoint (coop can be tough because you get killed easily)
5. Of course any MMO game, most are coop when you're leveling up.
These are the coop games I've been playing lately:
1. Silent Hunter 3
2. Soldiers Heroes of WWII (this can be a bit tough at first, but probably one of the best war coop games I've played to date.)
3. Flashpoint FinMod

NWN > Diablo II. It's as simple as that. As for Dungeon Siege... -Do not- buy that game. Just don't do it. It's pretty much automated, so you lead your characters to a dungeon, and then they just go crazy and kill stuff. One of the worst games I've ever purchased.

CoH here on Guardian, and Guild Wars (possibly). The former still commands a majority of my gaming time on a weekly basis. :)

There are other games beside Battlefield 2?
It's MMO weekend here in Ohio. Played some GW Friday and am hitting the WoW some Saturday, some Sunday. I thought I was away from Blizzard's latest thing, but it seems I am not. Just hit 49 and the trek continues.
Also saw Mr. and Mrs. Smith finally. Liked it a good deal more than I did Batman. How sad is that?

All of my friends tried Battlefield 2 and just didn't like it. It looks great and everything, but the game feels very arcady. I want to see more damage on buildings, tanks, etc. If I shoot a dry wall with a cannon, it should crumble.
I guess for deathmatch crazy folks, this game is heaven.

The Punisher (it's fun to interrogate people!), Uplink: Hacker Elite and WoW.

I spent the weekend playing WoW (after about a 6 month break).
Started a Druid Character and I'm having a lot of fun. Not the fastest kills, but very versatile which keeps the fighting interesting.
Out of all the games, WoW continues to be fun. I tried to get into GuildWars, just not into it.
