Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=75693) snagged some details on PGR4 from an upcoming exclusive article. While we already know about the brand new weather system, it looks like drivers themselves will be getting a makeover as well. This time around you'll have more options when creating your driver, which will form the basis of a revamped Career Mode. Your opposing drivers will also now be more charismatic, identifiable by their racing styles and "personalities". There'll also be more spectators who will react better to what's going on around them, and might even wave a national flag or two.
In-car-view affectionados will be happy with the promise of a more engaging experience, with more reaction from the driver in question, as well as weather and road effects making your ride more realistic and bumpy.
The weather effects will make things very interesting.

There'll be garages of new cars to race in, too, like classic 1960s Minis, '63 Corvette Stingrays, and other retro rippers. You'll also be treated to a Shanghai location, plus two more TBC cities and a "Fantasy Track" - on top of all the environments from PGR 3.
This is the part I like to hear the most. THe lack of progression and the complete dominance of a handful of cars completely ruined 3 for me.

Speaking of drivers getting a makeover, it would be cool if the game used something like R6 Vegas' face mapping technology. Imagine when you're playing people online and the other drivers looked like them. Of course, you'd only see it in replays, but still!

Every single racing game will always have dominant cars, that will never be solved unless you start nerfing cars which is a huuuugggggeeee no no in racing games. Car manufacturers will have the developers by the balls if they make their cars slower than they really are.

Except the fact that PGR3 had ZERO progression. There was really one class of of car... uber. After uber that was slightly more uber and even slightly more uber. Even between classes it didnt vary much.

You mean in general I guess. All of the cars were fast without doubt. The only problem with single player is that you could crush everyone with the cars available early on. You could beat the game with any car. Progression is good, especially in racing games.

The in-car view is very realistic, immersive and unplayable. It's something that 2% of people will use but 50% will whine about if they take it off.
It would require something like Track IR on PC to be playable. Without that, it blocks your view way too much.

Not quite what I meant. You could be the game with one of the starting cars, that I agree with. I played 80% of single player with the Ultima because I got to know it so well and it was either 9/10 or 10/10 in acceleration and top speed.
What pissed me off is, with many cars, it was simply impossible to win anything. If you had a RUF with a top speed of 6/10, there was NO WAY you would win a single player race, it just couldnt happen.
That was extremely lame, and made 3/4 of the games car completely meaningless.

Our group had the opposite experience. We enjoyed PGR2 more than 3 because of the variety of cars. It got very boring with PGR3 when every car was about being as fast and twitchy as humanly possible. Yeah, they look different, but they all started to act the same to me.
With PGR2 we'd have these "junker races" where we'd all pick some of the worst handling cars we could find (GTO! Woo!) and laugh ourselves silly as we go trampling down the streets of Chicago like drunken elephants. :D

Sounds awesome. I just hope Porsches are back, because their absence in PGR3 was dissapointing. Hopefully, Porsches in Forza 2 is a good sign... :D

No, you mean you had the same experience! ;)
I vastly prefered PGR2 to PGR3. Racing around in a VW bug doing powerslides down a stairwell, that was too much fun.

I was also in PGR2 more than 3. My friend and I would have classic battles around tracks, boxster vs s2000. The graphics for PGR2 still look good as well and to me felt like a more complete game.

I'd like to see some limited races on PGR3. For all the other mistakes GT had against it, some of the best races were the ones where you were limited to specific classes or makes/models of cars.
I mean, seriously, once you get the top of the line Ferrari and McLaren, you dominate the game.
Although I played that one wreird car...I remember its nickname being 'the Batmobile' for about half the game because it looked cool and was more fun to drive. But even it was among the top 5 cars in the game.

Different strokes for different folks. A ton of people hate pgr 3 because are faster and harder to control, people did not want to spend the time to learn to drive them. There are a ton of fun cars to have fun races in but no one ever mentions that. All of the negatives are based around the speed of the new or dominant cars.
About the single player challenges. I can take most of the slowest piece of shit cars in any class and beat the game with it on platinum, it is all about skill. The cars were not outclassed by dominant ai controlled cars. Sure, normal people are much faster in an Ultima and can win 90% of the time. Challenge yourself and drive something slower then. I get your point though. I think the balance issue favored faster cars and did not take into account what you were driving.
Online is just a different beast. Some people have funs races, others compete, some do cat and mouse all night. Find a good group of people and your set as far as onlien goes.

See, we had this conversation before. You are an online gamer, I am an offline gamer. PGR2 had better offline play while PGR3 had better online. Thats why we have such different attitudes towards the game.
