I haven't looked into these things in a few months, but aren't these prices more than a little steep? I also like the fact that they make stickers that specifically ruin their very sweet case.

Nah, Alienwares are tacky, them Commodores are slick. The artwork idea is pretty cool since its not just those stupid decals but actually painted (or dyed) and it sounds like they might offer customizable artwork.

All that being said, any real gamer builds his/her machine. It's just better, and more fun!

Yeah, they're expensive, but thats what you get for buying rather than building. For retail, those aren't too bad for those specs. And the two year support is above average.

The graphics also aren't stickers, they're painted and clear coated.

I'd still stick with the black. A very small part of me wishes that I hadn't handed off my C64 to my cousin a few years back. Might be fun to sell on eBay, or play some Jumpman on.

I sure hope so, they look like fantastic machines.

(And I can sure use the upgrade, my machine is starting to show its age.)

They'll be out of business in 5 years. What kind of numb nuts thought it was a good idea to resurrect the Commodore name with a bunch of bullshit "boutique" gaming PCs.

when are these guys going to understand that there is only so big of a market that would get a $5,000+ PC?

When are we going to see prices that are not retarded. Shit, these guys need to understand that building your PC is becoming more and more plug and play. Most of the work for building a PC is the research of the parts.

Keep in mind that you can't translate prices the way you are trying to do. Our dollar just isn't worth as much as the pound. If someone had said you could buy one of these PC's for $1800.00, it would seem a lot more reasonable than trying to translate it into US dollars.

JESUS FIST-FUCKING CHRIST! Too Cheap...and I mean that. Those prices are awesome.

EDIT: and while my knowledge of Technology and PC parts is extensive...my ability to do basic currency exchange is not, I will leave this post as a testament to my shame.

I could probably build Commodores 2999 pound (6000 US dollar) machine for 1800 US. :p

I'm too lazy right now to actually go do some comparisons, but those prices, while high, seem a lot cheaper than an equivalent Alienware.

Edit:
A quick and dirty comparison of the Commodore XX and an Alienware Area 51 customised to have more-or-less equivalent specs:
Commodore: £2937.03
Alienware: £3158.40

So it's pretty close, with the Commodore being slightly cheaper. Some of the upgrades over the standard models of Alienware cost a bomb. It 'started' at £1496, and after bumping the specs to match the XX more than doubled the price.

Comparing the GX to a roughly equivalent Area 51:
Commodore: £1759
Alienware: £2379.38

A much bigger advantage for Commodore this time.

It's still a lot of money - money that a lot of PC gamers don't won't to spend on a box they can build themeselves cheaper, but there is a market for these things out there - and Commodore, with their seemingly cheaper prices and higher degrees of case customisability, might do pretty well.

What the hell? They even use the commodore logo? I thought they went bankrupt?
Regardless, the Supreme Commander case looks pretty cool. I'd love a pimped out Miami Vice case. It will only cost me 7 thousand australian dollars, but that is the price you pay for quality PCs in this, the year 1980.

edit: Oh, I see. Some dutch company bought the name. Wow, the number of times companies have gone into liquidation after purchasing the name is surprising. Its the commodore curse!

I see that these PCs have a dual-GPU (SLI) system with Vista. Does SLI work under Vista already? I thought there were still a lot of problems. You still can not order an SLI PC from Dell with Vista today (only with XP).

Guys chill out a bit.

These are the only PC's you'll be able to buy through their website (their flagship models if you will). However, you'll be able to buy less expensive, lower end models through retailers (such as PC World possibly or high street computer stores).

No one listens to me, but there you go.

I was on a budget and I'm not huge into raping in mass ammounts at a time. If I download somthing I burn it right away and then free up the space, so 80gigs is plenty for me.

Unless you go SCSI, your only choices for 10k RPM drives are 36, 74, and 150 GB at the moment. Presumably he is talking about a 74GB Raptor and rounding up.

The cases on that website look sorta like an Antec P-180.

Not only are they overpriced but there's typos in their technical information in a couple of spots too. Beh.

I'll stick with building my own for probably the rest of my life. It's so much more interesting.

XP, as of right now, is far superior to Vista for gaming. Better drivers, better performance, better compatibility.

That being said, I'm not excited at all about these overpriced, Alienware-esque PC's. If you want an overpriced PC that's WORTH the overpricing from a boutique builder, go with Falcon Northwest. They have the best support of all PC manufacturers, bar none. True 24/7 tech support, free overnight shipping if your system goes belly-up, and the legendary binder with the checklist etc etc.
