1Up is reporting that magazine NGamer scored an interview (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3158925) with Takashi Iizuka (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takashi_Iizuka_(game_designer)) (NiGHTS into Dreams, Sonic Adventure) in which he discusses the control scheme for the upcoming NiGHTs game for Wii.
"We're currently designing the game to be played with two control configurations. Our main focus is to design the game to be played with the Wii remote but for those gamers that are more comfortable using a more "traditional-style" controller configuration, they will able to plug the nunchuk into the Wii remote as well."Anyone still have their Saturn 3D controller (http://www.axess.com/twilight/console/detail/saturn_b.html) with its awesome analog 'stick'. It was great for Panzer Dragoon too!

Ha! The Sega Saturn controller, I think MS took some design elements from that when putting together their first "controller of cramping hands."
I imagine this is what a lot of porters will do with their games down the line, which is good and bad. Yeah it'll be fun to play using the Wii-centric controls, but they could end up being shallow and tacked on.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Most of the time when games offer a bunch of controller configurations, it means that there isn't one that's perfect.
On the other hand, SSX Blur's default controls were absolutely unplayable. But switching to analog stick movement made the controls perfect. I've heard rumors of a bizarre race of people who could actually steer using nunchuck tilting in SSX Blur, but I think that's just a story made up to scare little kids.

I've got 3 but one is in need of some repairs. In fact I started playing Nights again when it started popping up in the news. I'm also playing a touch of the old Dragon Force.

Count me as someone who LOVES the default configuration in SSX Blur. It has totally convinced me that Electronic Arts can do something right for a change.
