Well...the Halo 3 rumors have started. The latest comes from the Talk XBox forums. (http://www.talkxbox.com/forum/showthread.php?p=86280#post86280) Here's the scoop:1) It will have a darker and more gritty story than the previous games.

2) They're attempting to maintain an online cooperative component for the campaign supporting more than two players at once.

3) It has a lot of cinematics planned for it. The opening scenes apparently occur thousands of years before the timeline of the original Halo: Combat Evolved's story.

4) It will have a multiplayer mode which pits players against bots in scenarios that are directly connected to the story of the game.

5) They're attempting to implement both a map editor and a movie maker, which would allow players to send and receive their maps/movies through Xbox Live. This would apparently be on a separate disc, and they have an entire team working just on these two projects.

6) Zanzibar, Sidewinder and Hang Em High are said to return to the multiplayer mode, completely reworked. Zanzibar will be mangled and torn apart as though after the battle, the sky will be dark red. Sidewinder will have four legs instead of just two, with bases at each end. Hang Em High will have a massive tree at its center and the structure will be deteriorated.

7) They want to support more than fifty players on Xbox Live for certain maps.

Most likely it's fake, but it'll be interesting to see if some of this comes true.

In other Halo news, Bungie has their preview up for Backwash (http://bungie.net/News/TopStory.aspx?story=backwash&p=3608236), one of the 5 new maps coming in the July 5th map pack.

Couldn't they have come up with a better name than Backwash?

Far too early to start bothering with this stuff. Might be true, might not, no way of anyone telling.

Edit: Backwash is gorgeous. I'm jealous.

Nah.. what Micorsoft are doing here is putting out some ideas that are supposed to reflect the game... then listening to the fan base bitch about this or that and get excited about the other stuff. That way they can figure out how to start making the new game.

Halo PC maps > Halo 2 maps. It'd be nice if they could try to make some of the massive maps they made for Halo PC for Halo 3.

Sure its a bit early to start speculating, but its still fun ;)

I still think the best map ever is Damnation. (at least for 4 people). The map is so balanced...and so fun to play....

"Potatochip-crumbs-in-the-soda" was too long? :p

An interesting idea list, to be sure. Don't get too excited, though; Bungie keeps trying to tell us they haven't started yet...

They blew up Zanzibar, praise the lord. Yes it's probably fake, but the thoughts make me happy.

Map editor probably bogus.. but they might do something like PGR3.. Halo 3 TV.

50 players? Makes sense... PD0 does it.. so H3 will have to follow.

Bots? Bogus I think.. Bungie has never believed in bots for Halo... but who knows.

BTW Backwash has the sentinel beam ;) How cool is that?

No, what Microsoft is doing is seeing that every messageboard isn't "HALO HALO HALO!!!" at the moment and they want to annoy the hell out of us who could care less about Halo by bringing that name back into constant discussion. ;) You know how rabid fanboys (and haters for that matter) are.

i always found the smaller/medium sized maps far more fun in halo.

Was I the only one who found Halo 2 boring as hell and not much of a departure from Halo?

I had a lot more fun with MA:2.

Nope. The story sucked, and they could have done better with the weapons and maps. The dev team didnt get their ideas hammered out fast enough, and the game suffered as they scrambled to finish in time for the fiftieth and final deadline.

I hope the part about it being darker and grittier is true. That's one thing that I was hoping they were going to do with Halo 2, and they did to some degree, but not as much as I'd have liked.

Anyone who's seen the ending to Halo 2 knows it's going to get darker and grittier.

What about the movie maker? Now that seems bogus. To make a movie maker with enough features and freedom to keep people happy would require a lot of work.

Driv3r's movie maker is a blast, yet it is so simple. The only reason why I own the game really.

Fake or not-fake, this at least has me somewhat hopeful. Every now and again I wish the game had bots for me to play against (I honestly believe Halo's A.I. to be of at least a decent calibur) where I don't have to rush out and find some twelve year old mic-spamming me. And the idea that I could possibly design my own maps to play others with - not that I know how to design and level, mind you, but at least I'd have the option - would just be a nice piece of icing on the cake.

Pure speculation and rumor fodder, yes, but enough to at least get the wheels of hope stirring.

kind of funny how once the hype machine was turned off, you don't see anything about halo2 anymore.

I'm not so sure about that, all it took was a minimum of 2 people to hold the top, so a 2v2 came down to whomever got to the top first.

I don't remember the first Halo having a fabulos story either. I think the story in Halo 2 was more than adequate for a game that's an FPS first and foremost. I also don't know why people bash Halo 2 so much. It's a fun game. I played through the single player campaign in co-op mode with my brother and had a lot of fun. And the multiplayer is easy to pick up and play a few rounds.

I played it mostly free for all slayer, not team. The best part about the map is, you can easily see any part of the map from any other part, or if you couldn't, it was only a step away.

For points 1-3...so?
4) Why? Bungie has always been pushing "community" this would only alienate people. They're a LAN-loving, Live-lusting bunch, I don't believe this point.
5) This is probably true, how can you have your flagship game have nothing to do with the new micro-transactions aspect of your new system? Movie maker will be awesome! Show your friends how badly you wooped up on bapenguin in Rumble Pit.
6) So? A map is a map.
7) They'll have to have servers. 16 players is rough enough. My 1 1/2 cents. =)

I can do this too:

4.Because I said so. Plus I know Bungie too, and they would like bots online.
5.no point to this
6.Your right, a map is a map. Bungie, hire this man. Make 12 maps that are just one big square.
7.They'll have to have servers? For an online game? I think Bungie is mistaken, technology from now on will never let developers have more than 16 players online....

I certainly hope you're joking. Joint Operations has capacity for 150 people online at once with no lag.....

Discuss?

50 players? lol, that practically confirms the engine will be even more stripped down and shitty than Halo 2's.

I can't wait to hear the Master Chief say "You bitch!" to some woman wearing a tinfoil bikini.
