View Full Version : Infinity Ward Announces Announcement for Saturday

How slow of a news day is it? Infinity Ward, makers of the Call of Duty series, has announced...an announcement. For Saturday the 28th. From Blue's News (http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewthread&threadid=77215). Amazing Things To Happen On April 28th:
1758 - James Monroe, 5th President of the United States is born.
1788 - Maryland becomes the seventh state to ratify the Constitution of the United States.
1932 - A vaccine for yellow fever is announced for use on humans.
(Then nothing really happened for a long time.... but now....)
2007 - What goes down this April 28th is equal to, if not surpasses, the magnitude of any of those.
Whose ready?!
Could their announcement possibly be more exciting than the birth of James Monroe? I doubt it.

Their sense of humor is great. All of those events are fucking boring, anything they announce will probably blow those out of the water.
I predict Call Of Duty 4: Future Warfare. Infinity Ward has been looking to develop a futuristic/modern Call of Duty for a while now.

Hmmm...I suspect Infinity Ward will announce a game in which you're a WWII era soldier who accidentally fell into a time machine that was set to traverse April 28th in different years. Tanks and Nazis will also make appearances for reasons unknown.

I hate this p.r. crap.
They don't mention a time on that day, but they should wait until the middle of the night. Yeah; that's the ticket. The middle of the night to announce some craptastic nothingness!
Grr....

You're crazy, man. Those things are all important and awesome!
Of course, as someone who used to be involved in medical research I might find the discovery of vaccines to be a lot more exciting than the next person. :D

Somehow I find you either being the pot-loving pseudo-scientist or the guinea pig (still smoking ample amounts of pot, of course) in the medical "research" (your friends attaching electric nipple clamps to your chest.) ;)

Some things about this post:
1) There is nothing pseudo about my science! Maybe some madness, though.
2) I was just talking to a friend the other day about how lots of people who have similar tastes in music/movies/other stuff as me tend to be fairly big pot smokers, but how none of my close friends have been particularly big on drugs (except for alcohol) so I never really got caught up in pot. A shame, perhaps?
3) When I was in 7th grade I actually hooked alligator clips from a 6 volt battery not to my nipples, but to my braces. Good going, me.
4) That makes 2 posts by me that are pretty much completely unrelated to the topic of this thread. I think it's time to go do something productive. :D
EDIT: sickfallout...what's the joke? The first thing I thought of was when they used the angel skeleton to open the shopping mall but I doubt that is right.

Is it just me, or is this sort of spitting on the graves of the 30,000 people who die from yellow fever each year? Don't get me wrong, I get it. Its funny. But thats a weird example to choose, and seems at least a little insensitive.
Plus, you know the James Monroe fanclub is going to want to kick their asses. And those people are off the hook.
Despite the costly and sacrificial breakthrough research by Cuban physician Carlos Finlay, American physician Walter Reed and many others, over 100 years later, unvaccinated populations in many developing nations in Africa and Central and South America continue to be at risk.[4] As of 2001, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that yellow fever causes 200,000 illnesses and 30,000 deaths every year in unvaccinated populations.[5]

Seriously, though, I thought that example was a bit out of place as well.
I thought so until I went to the wikipedia and tried to find out what else happened on that day. Long story short: whole lot of depressing and/or boring. Examples:
* 1192 - Assassination of Conrad of Montferrat (Conrad I), King of Jerusalem, in Tyre, only days after his title to the throne is confirmed by election. The killing is carried out by Hashshashin.
* 1789 - Mutiny on the HMS Bounty. Captain William Bligh and 18 sailors are set adrift and the rebel crew returns to Tahiti briefly and then sets sail for Pitcairn Island.
* 1796 - The Armistice of Cherasco is signed by Napoleon Bonaparte and Vittorio Amedeo III, the King of Sardinia, expanding French territory along the Mediterranean coast.
* 1920 - Azerbaijan is added to the Soviet Union.
* 1930 - The first night game in organized baseball history takes place in Independence, Kansas.
* 1945 - Benito Mussolini and his mistress Clara Petacci are executed by a firing squad consisting of members of the Italian resistance movement.
* 1947 - Thor Heyerdahl and five crew mates set out from Peru on the Kon-Tiki to prove that Peruvian natives could have settled Polynesia.
* 1952 - Dwight D. Eisenhower resigns as Supreme Commander of NATO.
* 1952 - Occupied Japan: The United States occupation of Japan ends.
* 1965 - United States troops land in the Dominican Republic to "forestall establishment of a Communist dictatorship" and to evacuate U.S. citizens.
* 1970 - Vietnam War: U.S. President Richard M. Nixon formally authorizes American combat troops to fight communist sanctuaries in Cambodia.
* 1977 - The Red Army Faction trial ends, with Andreas Baader, Gudrun Ensslin and Jan-Carl Raspe found guilty of four counts of murder and more than 30 counts of attempted murder.
* 1977 - The Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure is signed.
* 1978 - President of Afghanistan Mohammed Daoud Khan is overthrown and assassinated in a coup led by pro-communist rebels.
* 1987 - U.S. engineer Ben Linder is killed in an ambush by U.S.-funded Contras in northern Nicaragua.
* 1988 - Near Maui, Hawaii, flight attendant Clarabelle "C.B." Lansing is sucked out of Aloha Flight 243, a Boeing 737, and falls to her death when part of the plane's fuselage rips open in mid-flight.
* 1994 - Former Central Intelligence Agency official Aldrich Ames pleads guilty to giving U.S. secrets to the Soviet Union and later Russia.
* 1996 - In Tasmania, Australia, Martin Bryant goes on a shooting spree, killing 35 people and seriously injuring 37 more.
* 1997 - The 1993 Chemical Weapons Convention goes into effect, with Russia, Iraq and North Korea notable nations who had not ratified the treaty.
* 2003 - Apple Computer's iTunes Music Store launches, selling 1 million songs in its first week.
All things considered, yellow fever was probably the right choice.

360 will be in worse shape if they keep banking on 3rd party games to sell their console. They need to do what Sony did. Make amazing first party games and lots of them. Say what you want about Sony, their first party games are great and original. When Sony hits the their 16 month mark with the PS3 eyes will open and Microsoft will be in worse shape. It's time for Bill to get deeper into in the hole and buy up some talent before Nintendo and Sony start pulling out their big guns.

Uh...what the Hell?
I probably shouldn't bother responding to the actual post, but Nintendo has been doing what you've described for the last say...forever and look where it got them. Oh right, they were first, then last, then last again, then first again...so it doesn't seem to matter.

With almost every post you've made thus far, you've made it abundantly clear that you're trying to justify the $600 PS3 purchase you made.
Regardless of what your sig says, you're sounding like more of a fanboy with every post. Keep it up, man. You'll join the ranks of people like GaYmErFrEaK and the pre-mod version of Zeal.

I'll be back in a week to see whether this was worth worrying about at all.
Why did this turn into a Sony/MS sux - CODsux/COD2042 thread again?
Because we're all bored with this non- announcement.
I chance you all to place some bets -
donate $10 to the evavs if this is something incredibly worthy of infinity ward proclaiming such "huge" events as precursors to it ...
Or if it's all some unremarkable - IW announce COD4 set in WW2 type news in a week's time - donate $5.
See - everybody wins.

Whatever they’re doing I’m sure it’ll be great. Their formula for intense action is pretty much the best there is in the FPS genre. If they chose to go into a different time period with it that would be cool, though I don’t know about this 2042 business. The not-so-distant future is usually a pretty boring setting.

Wouldn't it be great if they set it in Iraq and used the game as social commentary? It would have to be social commentary if they built the game using first-hand accounts the way that they built the WWII games.
