To pass the time in Iraq, some of our soldiers are turning to a time-honored nerd tradition: they're holding their own D&D convention. Ziggurat Con (http://www.gamegrene.com/node/790) will be held June 9th at Camp Adder/Tallil Airbase in Iraq. The trouble is, they need supplies!
The largest problem with running a Con in Iraq, of course, is that there are no local stores or game publishers, and few game books on the post. Even dice are in short supply, with many soldiers breaking the unwritten taboo held by many gamers and sharing dice. Thankfully, many game publishers have also lent their support, and have agreed to supply game products to help the Con along. aethereal FORGE, Sovereign Press, Final Redoubt Press, Goodman Games, Paizo Publishing and Steve Jackson Games are among those that have thrown in their support for the convention. But Amberson indicated that the soldiers could definitely use more.I plan on donating my 3.0 books and all my dice for this event. They've been collecting dust for several months -- might as well put them to good use!

If I still had all my books and shit I'd totally do it, but I gave them all away to friends and a little brother long ago. Lame.

I have just about everything ever made for dnd. By far a larger collection than most of the small stores in my area. I am going to donate for sure. I still remember my brother coming back on leave from the army and telling me about DND night. THAT is what got me into DND in the first place. I am gonna check this out.

I have some 3.0 books that are on there way as soon as the post office opens up, I'm going to also forward the page to my good buddy Neal at The Warstore, I'm sure he would love to donate.

You just put a horribly funny image in my head of people LARPing in a war zone.

Yes, D&D is very popular in the Navy, so this I can see as a very good thing. I'm going to send my stuff.

Guys dont you know that D&D is related to witchcraft and everyone who plays it will get sent to hell? They will burn for all eternity! dont condemn the soldiers by sending your stuff! </huge dose of sarcasm>
Only faith in god will make your will saves high enough to resist the Enchantment spells cast by the Iraqi wizards.

Can someone tell me where this is:
SPC David Amberson
A Co 86th Sig Bn
APO, AE 09331
is that in the US? Can I mail that using standard mail? My friends and I bought a huge set of dice, so I know we can donate some of them, and I'm giving my matching set, I just don't know if that is an actual address and if there is anything special I need to do.

When/if I get a response, I'll let you know.
EDIT: I looked for the zip code online, and discovered that 09331 is indeed the Tallil (LSA Adder) base in Iraq (http://www.operationhomefront.org/Info/info_how_to_codes.shtml). Evidently they use a significantly shortened addressing system for sending stuff to military overseas.
