gi.biz (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=24255) is reporting that the president of Sony Computer Entertainment Italia has decided to step down. He's being replaced by David Reeves, the current chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
A spokesperson for SCEE confirmed that the executive had left due to normal business and not as a result of today's earlier revelations that the European division was due to cut 160 jobs across the region.
"Corrado has been with Sony Computer Entertainment Italia for 12 years in which time we have seen PlayStation become a symbol for Italian people," commented David Reeves, chairman of SCEE.
"Buonanno leaves behind him a very strong PlayStation team, in whom we have the utmost confidence."

So the head of Sony Europe has been demoted to merely the head of Sony Italy the same day Howard Stringer was bragging about how awesome the PS3 did in Europe?

No kidding, something is amiss in da Sonyvision.

No, no this is a good thing! It's refreshing the mind share. It's about letting the Italians teach their language to a new member of Sony staff. It's a growing experience for Reeves, so he can fine tune the Italian PS3 experience.
Ummm, sorry I got nothing.

Based on what we've seen of Sony company culture over the past several years, I'd wager that any changing of the guard is good. Hopefully the change will result in a more focused Sony with an emphasis on gaming, and less on 4D hardware.

I believe this is a promotion, actually. David Reeves is/was a chairman of Sony Europe. He will now be the president of Sony Italia.

No this is a good thing. History has taught us that new blood will be great for Sony...they should have done this long ago.
Kamalot...seriously man...you are the most brainwashed person I have ever encountered. I hope this whole "I'm going to try and spin every bad sony story to make it sound good" angle you're working on is a joke...because if it isn't it is quickly becoming one to the rest of us.

Wow! Talk about missing the point altogether. Layoffs can be a good thing for a company that's going through tough times. Not for the people being laid off, but for the company itself. There's a distinction. It's a shame you appear to be missing it.
I'm not missing anything. I understand that layoffs can be good or bad.
What I also understand is that Kamalot is leaking Sony man-splooge from all orifices...
My post was just observing what a man-whore he is to Sony. Nothing else than that.

HAHA...Fita...As far as i have read through 6-9 pages of Kamalot's most recent posts he has rarely if ever taken a position against sony. I think the closest he got was saying "Duh!" to sony in a post that addressed the 20gb model being discontinued...which by my account is actually for the cutting of the 20gb model in his eyes.
So yeah...i am accusing Kamalot of being a sony troll. (GASP!). He posts alot....and i mean alot...on other things too, but when it comes to Sony they really can't do wrong according to him.
According to Kamalot:
Cutting 20gb model - Right call Sony
Having layoff - Right call Sony
Including Blu-ray - Right call Sony
Gag...
The more things change, the more things stay the same. :D
Yeah...this post below Fitba's immediately flooded my head with the mental picture of the little kid standing behind his father's leg sticking out his tongue at the kid who just gave him a bloody nose.

Gag...I find your points very interesting. Perhaps, instead of attempting to label me as a fan of one thing or another, lets take the time to discuss the actual issues at hand. If you are in a thread, where I or someone else says something you don't agree with, debate the actual issue. I'm always open to a good discussion or argument and would love to discuss all of these issues with you or anyone else.
We may not agree, or even understand each other's opinions on the subject, but a channel of open dialog is a good start and makes for better conversation than, "everything so-and-so says is pro/anti [company]" mentality that seems to run rampant.

The reason I said that has nothing to do with me 'hiding' anywhere. Fitbabits' reaction comes on the heels of me being labeled an anti-Sony troll for the longest time. It is downright comical to see your perspective is so completely different. You are completely entitled to your perspective, but is still humorous to see me labeled as being on two completely different ends of the spectrum.
Hence, the more things change, the more they stay the same. I'll try to be more clear in the future.

I'm confused? Have you read Kamalot's post history? I may be wrong, but I don't think all of Kamalot's posts are Pro-Sony. ;)
Also, per Fitbabits and Kamalot's points, this could be a good thing for Sony. Not so much for the individuals. On the other hand it seems to be a bit of smoke (ie where there is smoke there is fire...).
Layoffs are what companies do to keep their EPS numbers up. It's often a smart thing to do for the stock price.
I seem to remember some comments coming out of Europe, where they weren't thrilled with some of the decisions made by Sony Japan. In that, I'd agree, so if you blame Sony Europe, these changes could be good. If you blame Sony Japan, then the wrong people may be getting demoted.
Hard to say from what little information we get. I am wondering about Sony in Europe. It's been a huge Sony stronghold and you'd think the launch was a success, but something doesn't seem right to me. The sell thru numbers are OK, but we've only seen about 3 weeks of data so far.
If you projected Sony sales in Europe as if they'd launched 6 months ago, you would have a significantly higher amount sold, than they had at launch, IMO. Does that mean, that the pent up demand went away or isn't really there? Not sure, but the weekly/monthly sell thru numbers will tell a lot in the next 90 days.

Like I've said before, people need to funnel abstract notions into labels so that they may fit in that small mind of theirs.
Fitba I like you.
Kamalot...Maybe you seem to get behind something for awhile and run with it, then change your mind. All i know is the last couple of months i have been on here you have been very pro-sony, which is perfectly fine. I just got annoyed at every sony story i see you are in there tooting a horn if it was a good one, or on a mission to spin a seemingly bad one into something not so bad. Now this is a forum so people talking and expressing oppinions is how things work, but i just felt i needed to say something.
I think i would have liked your anti-sony posts better(If i had seen them)...why not put that hat back on for awhile buddy?

I believe those quotes are within 24 hours of each other too.
Actually, I feel great. It is quite refreshing to see that a lot of issues people have with me come from preconceived notions instead of the actual words on the screen. I feel as if a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders as I gain the realizations: You can't please everyone all the time.
Someone will always dislike what I say no matter what it is.
I'm always willing to debate the contents of my post, and the ideas contained therein. I'll continue to post, and I'll continue to have my posts interpreted various ways.
I'm all for any steps Sony makes in order to build a better company that is focused on providing quality hardware and game titles to consumers for a reasonable price without the bullshit. They haven't been on that track for a long time, but I am confident that Sony will eventually return as a contender. It may be tomorrow, or it may not be this generation. But eventually Sony will be back, and I welcome that day.
I guess this is the pro-sony Kamalot that everyone pretends not to know.

Well, I am happy to point fingers at Sony when they do stupid things (as I see it). It isn't because I hate Sony, but rather that I expect more from them than they deliver. Frankly, they had it in the bag with PS2 and they haven't capitalized on that at all; PS3 is like starting over from square 1.
MS does better when they are lagging in the market. It's good to have a strong Sony in the market. But, right now they both seem to be aiming for the High Score; where High Score is defined by price tag. They both need to start beating the stuffing out of each other and it needs to be more than empty words, marketing bullshit, or bent and twisted statistics.

Yeah, for some reason a number of people don't get that part of the message. They see any criticism against Sony, constructive or otherwise, as an affront to the homeland or some such nonsense.
I'll have you know, that even while I can remain optimistic about Sony news does not mean that I am happy with their actions over the recent years, how they've screwed gamers over, or sacrificed the Playstation brand to the movie studios.

"Corrado has been with Sony Computer Entertainment Italia for 12 years in which time we have seen PlayStation become a symbol for Italian people," commented David Reeves, chairman of SCEE.
Uh, yeah. Forgot the thousands of years of Italian history, their contributions to all things cultural, forget the entire Roman Empire. This is what the Italians feel symbolizes them.
I know, it's semantics. He probably meant that it's become a symbol to the Italian people. Still, in the six or seven times I've been to Italy I've yet to see any game console in someone's house. Cigarettes, sure. But game system...nah. But I don't live there so I can't say anything concrete about that, just go from my limited experience.
Oh, Gott - You owe me $5 for a "new" pair of thrift store jeans. Them statements are apt to make a man shit his pants. You gots to be careful, son.

... really though, how unexciting is the real topic? A Sony exec in Europe replaces a sony exec in Itialy. Wooo.
Frankly, its not like SCEE really means fuckall anyways. They dont have the clout of SCEA and frankly, Sony Japan ignores both anyways and blindly goes ahead with whatever dumbshit idea they have as it is.

This is getting funnier, post by post. I checked your join date and it's 3-13-2007. Maybe Kamalot has been a Sony fanboy since March 13th. I hadn't actually paid that much attention.
I'd invite you to check his post history however, to really understand why we think this is funny. If we had a poll, out of 8,000 EvAv members or whatever it is now, I'd say Kamalot would finish number 1 in "Least likely EvAv member to become a Sony fanboy".
It's great though to see Kamalot has become objective enough, that he's actually being accused of being a Sony fanboy by a new EvAv member. Congrats Kamalot!! I never would have believed, I'd see the day. :D
Some day you'll look back on this thread and laugh. ;)
