Che Chou has another Weekly Pit Pass Report up, which discusses the upcoming demo and the teams obsession with getting the Forza 2 sounds just right. Click here for the article (http://forzamotorsport.net/news/pitpassreports/pitpass42.htm)

The Forza 2 team has recorded the sounds of every car on running on a Dyno. They've also recorded sounds with aftermarket equipment in many cases to further enhance the car sounds when you modify them in game.
They've even trashed a gear box in an actual car to get the awful sound of grinding of a damaged gearbox just right. These specific car sounds are important for immersion. The dev team has invested a lot of time in the finer details of Forza 2. Sounds are just one example.

Here are some samples. Be sure to CRANK UP your volume to hear all the subtleties... Compare the stock 991 with the more throaty 991 with the upgraded muffler. It's great to hear a difference made by some of the upgrades you'll purchase in game. Good stuff :D

Same 911 GT3 as it will sound in game with an upgraded muffler... (http://download.microsoft.com/download/a/d/1/ad173356-ed22-477c-a973-10c2a10f2b46/por_gt3_freerun_ingame.mp3)

Also here are 5 of the 24 cars in the demo. For the others, read the article (http://forzamotorsport.net/news/pitpassreports/pitpass42.htm) if you haven't already.

Well, with GT 4 out the window, I guess this is the only simulation racer for you simulation racer fans for a few years. I hope it's good. Well, actually I don't care, since I'm not a fan of the genre. You can all go fuck yourselves.

I was really surprised by the number of cars they are going to allow you to play with in the demo. 24 cars is well above the norm for a driving game. Take that GT:HD!

I wonder what gaming site would be stupid enough to lock down an exclusive, then refuse to use it in a timely manner? The PR department should pull the exclusive and give it to someone else - there's no point locking themselves into a deal with someone who isn't willing to do their part.

You mean GT, right(Gran Tourismo)?

Racing games are games that I find incredibly boring...but they are the easiest for me to pick-up and play and do well in...next to shooters.

Yeah, just like Sports games, I can appreciate racing ones, though it's not for me.

Though this is sure to get a fuckton of car nuts to jump fence and buy a 360.

Racing simulators like GT and Forza are the RPG's for speed freaks....

You upgrade your sword for "-20% less chance of impotence" while ill slap on a new suspension for tighter turns

Right, fixed it. Thanks.

Yeah, I understand when people just don't like a genre too. I'm all about RPGs, but my friends who love sim racers could give a shit about them. I'm also really indifferent to tactical shooters like GRAW.

It was just weird, what with IV on the way and all that.

No one has to like every sort of game, each person has their tastes. The wierd thing is , I used to really like to play racing games back in the day. I devoured off road, RC Pro am, Cruisin USA and Cruisin World.

You upgrade your sword for "-20% less chance of impotence" while ill slap on a new suspension for tighter turnsYou really can't compare Forza to the GT franchise. GT was a race against the clock. No matter what you did, wipe out, slam the wall, brake too early in a corner, ect., it did nothing to change the on rails AI that was the competition. The AI just rolled around in their perfect line at different speeds, depending on the difficulty. Brake too soon in a corner and the AI would slam into you with a $400 000 car without regard. In Forza, you could be in 4th place, thinking you don't have a chance to win, then pass 3 cars who just slammed a wall by fucking up a hairpin. You had to try REALLY hard to get rear-ended in Forza as well. The AI didn't want to mess up their ride. Instead of changing the time needed to win, Forza had the AI taking bad racing lines and making poor racing decions, including bad braking and passing at the wrong time.
With no online whatsoever, Gran Turismo dissapears to a tiny spec in the rearview mirror of the monster that will be Forza 2.
I have hundreds of hour in both games, (GT more so, since it has been around a lot longer) and can honestly say that Forza 1 whiped the floor with GT in every way, save the size of the garage.
With a dedicated wheel, (yeah I know, A-Spec had one too) rumble, brand new AI, and online features out the yin yang, I just can't fucking wait for this game.

Maybe GTR 2 for the current pc market, or GTR for the xbox 360/ps3 coming out later this year, or Colin Mcrae coming next month, maybe pgr 4 later this year, or the countless arcade racers that are going to be released all year round will satisfy us racing people?
And fuck GT, if they cannot see past their high and mighty "90 of the same skyline but we count them as different cars" attitude they can disappear. I am so sick of hearing GT is the pinnacle of racing games, there are issues with that series that kill it. I WILL buy a ps3 when gt5 drops but I can only pray they have completely overhauled that entire franchise.

Well I don't think any racing game so far has come close to this one.

I think its time for a remake ... racing on a roller-coaster

Few years? GT5 is coming out in less than a year.

As for the sounds, they sound a lot better than last gen, but they still sound... a little too digital and tinny. But definitely a huge improvement. That crash sound made me jump a little too

I appreciate GT and Forza. I like the graphics of the GT franchise better so far but the damage modeling and gameplay of Forza really impresses me. I'll take both Forza 2 and GT5. I think Forza will last alot longer because of the online play.

Try Trackmania Nations (http://www.trackmanianations.com/indexUk.php). It's available for free on their site. It's definitely what I'd describe as racing on a roller coaster. Also, this game is well polished and has great graphics, especially for being completely free.

There is a built in track editor, and people have done some amazing things with it. Just race online to play some crazy custom tracks.

I can say the crash sound effect made my stomach sink, much like that noise does in real life. So that's good... I think.

I really doubt that. There hasn't been anything in the way of actual media for the game, unless you consider the GT4HD demo an indication of what GT5 will be. Then there's the amount of time it took for GT4 to come out after its initial announcement.

I'll bet you a copy of GT5 that it comes out in Spring 2008.

And I'll bet you a beer that the only thing you'll see in early 2008 is a GT5 Prologue. I'm not betting on seeing GT5 on the shelves until Christmas 2008. Hopefully I'm wrong but given Polyphony's track record with timely releases I honestly have my doubts.

Anyway today is Forza 2 videos day, I'm all jiggy wiggy just thinking about it. Can't wait for the demo release, hopefully this month.

Regarding GT vs Forza I don't think there's any direct comparison possible; GT is a collectors game, Forza is a drivers game. I'm not expecting to get blown away by Forza 2's graphics but couldn't care less since it'll run at 60 FPS and theoretically will have a much improved physics engine. I just hope they will have brought the replays to GT's level, or at least made them as good as PGR3's. Same thing with the lighting and car models, Forza's cars looked way too toy-like compared to GT's.

Can't wait.

I totally agree, Forza 1 destroys GT as a 'racer' -> Just for the smarter AI and damage... I played GT a few weeks ago and couldnt figure out why i had liked it so much, none of the other drivers even know/care where I was..

But you cant say that GT isnt a 'racing simulator' -> Even if it has major faults compared to Forza

While I am not a fan of the realistic racing genre, the lengths they go too to make these games mimic real life is astounding. They are getting so good, actual race drivers are starting to look at the sims as a reliable learning/practicing tool, which is when you know you are recreating things well.

Haha your right...
Ill give you my first born if GT5 comes out early/mid 2008...
These guys are the worst when it comes to release dates... Im still waiting for my GT for PSP, which was supposed to be out years ago...

Either they are the laziest developers in the world, OR they have the worst management skills... either way, you wont see GT5 anytime soon

Ontop of that, GT4 came out very buggy (at least my copy did) -> I would get screen shutter/flicker at the start of races... I couldnt even compete in split screen because the game would automatically disable ALL assists... so no one could accelerate our 800hp cars.... I lost faith in Gran Turismo... especially after playing Forza1
