The game looks to take place in an almost Far Cry-like jungle island setting, with gameplay that's part adventure, part shooter, and part stealth.
The motion-sensing capabilities of PS3's Sixaxis pad will also be called into action during precariously balanced moments - players will have to delicately tilt the controller when Drake is gingerly walking tightrope style across fallen logs and other such alarmingly narrow routes over neck-breaking drops.

Despite the heavy emphasis on physical exertion, at least some of Drake's exploration of the island will be vehicle-based - so far an army jeep (complete with machine gun turret) and a jet ski are thought to feature. It's also worth mentioning that while all we've seen of Uncharted's world so far is sun dappled jungle forests and some intriguing, platform-friendly ruins, the island will - Naughty Dog has assured - offer a variety of terrains and settings.

Naughty Dog has a great track record over the past 10 years of putting together some damn fine games. It's surprising almost that this game hasn't gotten more buzz, but that's probably in large part to the way they're letting very little information out about the game. This very much has the potential to be one of the games that makes the PS3 very much worth owning this fall.

This is definitely a case of guilty by association, but every time I read the name Drake, I'm forced to relive the nightmare that was Drake of the 99 Dragons (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbx/drake?q=drake%20of%20the%2099).

Oh, god no! I may eventually use that game as punishment for my children. :p

By that same token, nobody should have been interested in Halo or Ghost Recon because "we've seen it all before" with sci-fi FPSs and military squad based shooters respectively. Some games can take a premise that's been tried before and actually do it much better.

Actually when halo came to consoles it was relatively new to consoles I can't think of many other fps with a scifi setting at that time.

Yeah, cause space marines had never been done before Halo.

that trailer looks awesome, and this is response a year late. I had actually written the game off because of the name, it sounded like some platformer child game where you played a dragon. How little i knew.

I'm excited about it.

I'm sorry, the modern FPS was founded on sci-fi. And if memory serves, Deus Ex came out in '00, so did Quake III, and in late '01 I know Red Faction was out 'cause I rented it for my brother so I could play more Arcanum.

I 100 % agree with everything you say here, I think perhaps its hard for people, even me to get really excited about it is maybe because its a new ip, the art direction ( so far ) isnt really an eye grabber, its almost generic in appearnce.
I say this Trusting that it is only so because of the limited information that has been let out. Im sure once the cats out of the bag everything will come together, I have huge doubts that naughty dog will mess this up, Im sure it will be a huge AAA.
Will it finally push me over the edge to buy me a ps3, so far no, but once the screens and vids start coming out, I think this is the one game that has the best chance of doing it. Naughty Dog I believe will be Sony's biggest asset this time. They are damn good at what they do.

Yeah, but I for one have never felt any of the tomb raider sequels quite stacked up to the feeling I got playing the original. (Though Legends came close...) I keep hoping that someday, someone will come along and nail that chemistry again.

Even Doom could be considered sci-fi. I mean, it was demons ON MARS!

You are forgetting Wolfenstien. A game about how the nazi's created werewolves. It doesn't get more sci-fi than that.

Still trying to convince people?

I guess people will decide themselves when the games arrive.

I like his new shirt better. The other one just made him looked way too ‘average joe’. I agree there’s probably not a lot of buzz around this game because it really does look like Tomb Raider, except without the Laura. They showed some smooth animations early on, but nothing that really grabbed anybody and told them how it’ll be different/better than Tomb Raider. At this point people are mostly positive about it because of the developer.

I see people arguing that space marines are in other games yet Halo… etc. But space marines have proven themselves to not only be a fun thing to be, but usable in a diverse bunch of settings and storylines. As far as we know, not only does this game look like Tomb Raider, it takes place in a jungle, like Tomb Raider, you’re fighting mercenaries, like in Tomb Raider, and you’re exploring ruins… To relate it to the marine argument it would be like saying “Here’s our new game, it stars a space marine, on a mars research base, being invaded by demons, but the main character’s a woman instead of a man.

People would be receptive to that if the developer has shown they can make a good game, but it's hard to get excited about something that sounds exactly like something you've played before. They've got to show why their game is different. Maybe it's a free-roaming island rather than being level-based (they seem to hint at that). If so they need to really sell that.

Unless you just started gaming yesterday, just about every game looks like something you've seen before.

You must really hate watching movies.

I'm not trying to "convince" anyone. Naughty Dog has a very good track record with the games that they develop, and a good PS3 showing by them this fall, coupled with some of the other releases, would go a long way towards making the PS3 a more worthwhile system when compared to the 360 and Wii.

EDIT : Why is it so hard for some people on this site to accept that PS3 owners would be looking forward to a PS3 game? With all the gushing that goes on over the next 360 FPS, you'd think some people would at least be able to see that gamers that own other systems might be looking forward to good games as well.

as far as it becoming a more worth while system, I really dont see that happening, nothing has been shown to say it is even going to come close.
Thats up to us to speculate, but up to sony and devs to convince us.
I can see with this game and a few others the ps3 becoming much more attractive to me, but far from better. I have over 30 games already in my 360 library, and some even unopened, no time.

This is a first for me.

As far as this game goes however, I do think it is going to be cool if for no other reason then Naught dog is making it. Yet its had to get excited about it
with the amound of information they have released.
So far the art is kind of uninspired, but that could easily be just from the lack of content shown, and because it is Naught Dog, I will with hold judgement and have faith.

That being said, For ps3 owners, this is a game everyone should get excited for and for those who just like good games but dont own a ps3, I think there might just end up being a little pang of jelousy.
Should be good, (hopefully its great)
next year the ps3 will be mine i thinks. The prospects are starten to look better.

*EDIT* That whole more worthwhile statement is I think, part of the reason
people jump on some of the things you say when concerning sony. (i know i know everyone does it with the 360)
point is,next year no system will me more worthy than the other,
The 360 is already more than worthy of your bucks, many games and many coming, and more diversity to boot.
the ps3 will have some great ones, though we dont know a whole lot about them, they are a comin.
wii, well what can i say, hopefull they can keep it up, and i think they can.

so, if you just like games, then they all have something to offer, and they are all worthy equally, just not yet. next year, i think so.
(And no one give me i can only afford one. start saving, buy the other next year.) If you really like all great games, its expensive, but its what we have to do. eventually.
