ComingSoon.Net (http://comingsoon.net/) has the scoop (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=10032) that Vin Diesel will star as Agent 47 in Fox's upcoming adaptation of Eidos/IO Interactive's Hitman series.
Thanks to Shacknews (http://www.shacknews.com/) for the tip.
Update: Looks like there may be a game version (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=765&e=2&u=/nm/20050615/people_nm/film_hitman_dc) of the movie created by Tigon Studios.Eidos and IO Interactive plan to hold discussions with Diesel and his game company, Tigon Studios, to work on the next installment of the game franchise. If a deal is reached, Diesel will assume the virtual role of Agent 47 by providing his voice and likeness in the new game. The new game is expected to ship in conjunction with the film.

Good pick IMO. Not quite old enough....but I think he'll work.

His status as a gamer will help too.

I like it! Even though I was hoping for a more nuanced choice of actor (say, John Malkovich), I think Vin Diesel will make it work.

He's the man for the job.

Nice choice! I always thought 47 was taller, though. :)

Wow, that's pretty cool. Have to agree that Malkovich would have been better though. What a creepy film that would have been.
But not many game based movies actually are good though. Most end up as silly predictable movies cashing in on the fans of the games which they are based on.

Yeah. Expect this thing to have some sort of vehicle blowing up every five seconds. :)
Uhh, is Uwe Boll directing it? :D

Well that kinda kicks ass. Vin seems perfect for this role.

I want the guy from the transporter movie he would play the perfect hitman imo.

Am I the only one who thinks this choice is a bad one? Oh god, 47 is going to be wisecracking before pulling the trigger. Anyone can be made bald. It doesn't make this a good choice.
Didn't Vin Diesel just go through his Kindergarten Cop career stage, effectively ending it? I always thought of Christian Bale, and this was way before I knew he was in the new Batman. Check out this picture (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0144084/Ss/0144084/1-4.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Bale,%20Christian) of him in American Psycho. Shave the head and he IS 47.
Edit: Here's another one (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0144084/1-5.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Bale,%20Christian&seq=3). Replace that drill with a silenced silverballer and he's your man. This (http://www.allaboutgames.co.uk/images/hitman2/hitman2_ps23.jpg) is for comparison purposes.

Yeah, Jason Statham is simply badass. He could probably pull this role off as well.

Okay, I concede that Jason Stratham would be mildly badass, just because he looks the part.

I was thinking the same thing. He's a great actor and really looks the part (Stratham, I mean). Vin's too big and badass...47 is a methodical killer. Watch Vin do a backbreaker to someone 20 minutes into it.

He'll do. The subject matter is very simple, so lets hope when they completely change it for the film to the core it turns into a good flick.

I enjoyed Vin Diesel's voice acting in Escape from Butcher Bay. If they kept to that style, not overdoing it with a bunch of cheesy one-liners, I think he could do well as 47.

just so we have an oversized jpg of the current design of hitman 47,
http://www.ioi.dk/images/downloads/Hitman_Contracts_pix/Sniper_Preview%20copy.jpg
If you look at him compared to his older design, i think Jason is actually the perfect match and his accent is fairly close to agent 47's, not his voice though.

I think directing/script has more to do with how good the movie is at this point.
A lot of people could fill the roll suitably based on looks -- how they use the actor will be key.

Jason Stratham is clearly the best choice. Given his looks and gangster film pedigree. Chances are he was being considered but Vin Disel is considered the bigger box office draw. And thats really the problem with producers and studios. They don't give the audience enough credit.

Jason Stratham is the clear choice in my opinion. This guy would fit well into just about any action hero role.

Statham gets my vote as well, he kicked ass in Transporter. Hell, at this point I'd even suggest Vinnie Jones (cain/juggernaut in xmen3, snatch, lock stock, etc)
But Vin Diesel isn't a bad choice at all.

you know i was also thinking him but with my choice of you know who, i didnt mention it. Man its always amazing when humans are on the same wavelength on thought. WE AGREE TO AGREE :3
looks like a walking nightmare?
Seriously, he is one of the most goffy looking action stars out there.

I have to agree that Jason Stratham is a great choice, but i guess they didn't want to pour millions of dollars into another box office smash like Transporter, lol, damn shame though because part of Agent 47's style is his pasty white ass and how uptight a white guy he is, Vin can't really pull it off, hes always about flaunting his big cock all the time and flash and style.

I know I'll get flamed for this... but Vin Diesel is the new Steven Segal. (Without the martial arts skill.)

My vote goes to Statham.
But here's a short list of people I think would be better than Deisel:
Ed Norton - http://www.minet.si/clankovje/2000-09-08-Ed-Norton,-portret/small/3-m.jpg
Michael Madsen - http://www.personalephemera.com/mike/images/mont3.gif
But yeah, Statham wins.
http://starophileimages.free.fr/wallpapers/jason_statham_002.jpg - the hair = 47.
Not that I think Diesel is bad, not at all. He's much better suited for the role than a LOT of other people the part could go to.
It's the script which makes the difference.
If they could somehow find like a Stratham/Diesel hybrid, that'd be perfect. I think Stratham has the perfect look for Agent 47, but his voice wouldn't fully work. The opposite holds true for Diesel, though. His physique is just too big (in terms of bulk) to look right, to me, but his voice could be dead on. Agent 47 has always seemed to have a calm menace in his tone and Diesel could play that pefectly. I'm sure that if for some obscure reason Stratham go the job, he'd do the character justice, it would just be something I'd have to get used to.
I mean, somehow I went along with Raul Julia being M. Bison so really anything is possible at this point.

Malkovich would be a primo choice for the role.
I dunno, Vin Diesel seems too muscly to play 47.

Yeah, Vin Diesel doesn't really fit the part of 47. For one thing, unless Vin decides to go anorexic for a few weeks, he stands out in the crowd far too much considering 47's build in the games. Then there's the question of whether or not he can actually do the "genetically bred assassin who's only lesson in life is to kill" bit.
the dude that played in the Transporter and played Turkish in Snatch would be a spot on Agent 47
Shave his head, get rid of the scruff beard/goatee he has, maybe a little less tan and he's perfect for it.

Vin Diesel just doesn't fit the part for this, he pretty much plays the same sort of character in all his movies - a loud, wisecracking action hero type thing. The character 47 has quite a different persona, as he has been bred to be a killer, and nothing else. The actor playing him needs to be cold and detached - almost inhuman. Someone like Arnie as he was in the terminator would be close, but he doesn't fit the build.

Well, at least it's not Tom Cruise.
I guess you missed a small movie called Collateral? Maybe you should google it or go rent it or pull your ass out of your head or something? Cruise was perfect in that movie, he was cold and calculating, he got the job done perfectly. He'd be better bald then Vin can be any day.

Tom Cruise was a great hitman, but he could never be 47. Vin Diesel is pretty spot on for 47, but only if they make him cold. I'm talking T-1000-from-Terminator-2 cold. Knowing modern directors, they'll give us some crappy movie in which 47 learns to love and express his emotions. -_-
As long as they keep the dialogue composed and to the point (47's typical professional ways), I think we've got nothing to worry about.
