View Full Version : Announcing Evil Avatar Analysts!

On the surface, analysts appear to have a supremely easy job (http://n-europe.com/special.php?sid=gamerpals&page=27). They make up some predictions about game console sales using arbitrary percentages and pretty pie charts. They use past history to forecast the near future, utilizing made-up facts and figures, taking into account “market trends” and “corporate ideology”. It wasn’t until we discovered that sometimes we’re doing their work for them (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=13385) that we decided we had had enough.

“Evil Avatar Analysts has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27849)“

Yes it does, Mr. bapenguin; yes it does indeed. With that single statement — an endearing battlecry against the obsolete and redundant “analysts” that plague our industry — the Evil Avatar Analysts (http://evilavataranalysts.com/) site was born.

So, here we are. The people who play the games, read about the games, study the corporations creating the games, and obsess over every detail of our hobby. We are providing the analysis now. You want to know what to really expect from this industry? Don’t ask a suit or a pocketbook. Ask an intelligent, informed, articulate gamer.

So sit back and enjoy our contributions to the analytical world!

Just, please. Don’t overanalyze it.

Ask an intelligent, informed, articulate gamer.

I checked the calendar. One week and six days late. ;)

I just happened to be an Economist and a gamer myself. Therefore, I'm already more qualified than 95% of the analysts out there that are being paid to do this.

I submitted an application to be an analyst on the site, but it gave me no confirmation of whether or not it went through.

Or Wii can call them the EAA. Makes them sound like some kind of government regulatory agency.

Wouldn't that also make you biased by your preconceived likes and dislikes when it came to to write a synopsis or an abridged summary of information? A conflict of interest?

I submitted an application to be an analyst on the site, but it gave me no confirmation of whether or not it went through.I received a submission, but it contained no data.

Make sure you fill out ALL the fields, even though there's nothing stopping you from leaving some blank. I don't know much about PHP, or else I would have programmed more functionality into it. :D

Is there another way I can submit?

OK, I sent another submission and made sure that all of the fields were filled out.

You bet your ass it would haha. Which is why I'm not doing it. But I could definitely be subjective if it was my career and something I literally had a hand in directly effecting.

I see that you guys take Analyst requests, but do you take nominations?
there are people out there that are too humble to consider applying for those positions, which is exactly who i think need to be there.

Do you offer users the possibility of feedback on what analysts say, say a vote?

This is an intriguing prospect as it does not differ much from EvilAvatar itself.

Let me try being an analyst

I foresee many changes in the coming year. This is due in part to the high and low demand in the clandestine and communal sectors for games. Factoring in the Geo-Political volatility of countries between the U.S., Europe and Asia, it is feasible the markets are likely to rise or fall. Either way one can presuppose the market potency for games will continue to be good or bad with a slight chance it will be both.

On second thought, I think I'll just continue playing games and leave the B.S. to people too obsessed with a market they actually have no effect on.

You should have used "affect", and not "effect".

Oh, and if you actually think you have no "effect" on the game industry, then you might as well choose another hobby.

Man, it's a good thing you're a friend of mine.....

Should be interesting.

How are you guys notifying those who applied? People who approved get a picture of a kitten, people who are rejected get a homoerotic banhammer? :)

In regards to analysts, you guys should put all analyst (the professional ones) predictions in a database and verify them a few months or years later to see who's right. This could establish some credibility for them and we could see who is more likely to be right and who is more likely to be talking out of their ass.

I think the correct word to use is actually effect, like the noun?

He had an effect on the industry.
The industry was affected by him.

I dunno... I DO however forsee very interesting developments in EAA!

Considering this site and many of it's readers frequently state that analysts shouldn't be listened to it seems odd that this news suggests we should now be championing them.

Evil politics?

You know they just went with the name so they could be called Evil Anal for short.

Don't deny it.

That said, should be fun to see the site go forward. Seems a lot like what we misguided souls tried to do with Toybane, only well executed.

Expect my application shortly!

Evil politics?

It actually started out as a satire of current gaming market analysts, but switched over to a more serious Analyst site considering that A. We've got some REALLY knowledgeable and intelligent people on Evil Avatar who are not only passionate about gaming in general but KNOW a lot about gaming, market trends, and can write good articles regarding these issues.

Why SHOULDN'T there be a group of gamer analysts is my question. ;)

Because, in my extensive experience, the very notion and term 'gamer analysts' is an oxymoron.

However, I'll be delighted to be proved wrong.
