Boom Boom boom lets go back to my room. So we can shoot fireworks all night. Ok, that was bad. But hopefully Bizarre Creation and Electronic Arts' Boom Boom Rocket isn't. It hits XBox Live Arcade tomorrow for 800 points. The addictive and original “Boom Boom Rocket” is the first music-rhythm game to appear on Xbox Live Arcade. Players trigger rockets to the beat of the music while traveling through a 3D cityscape. The better the player times the explosions, the more spectacular the fireworks effect. The fireworks are choreographed to 10 original tracks created by Ian Livingstone, who recently scored “Batman Returns” and “Project Gotham Racing 2.”

“Boom Boom Rocket” will be available for 800 Microsoft Points and will first launch in the U.S. Canada, and Europe. The title is rated “E” for Everyone (except in Germany, where it currently is unrated).

Game Features

* Two single player gameplay modes – Normal and Speed
* Two single console multiplayer head-to-head modes – Battle and Endurance
* Practice Mode
* Freestyle mode – No target line or scoring, just mash buttons to create cool fireworks shows

Have played this via ParterNet and it does not disappoint at all. The music is great, and the gameplay is good.

10 songs, $10. Sounds like a plan. I'll be switching back and forth between this and Guitar Hero 2 like the happy rhythm gamer I am.

Yes, sweet bosephus of all things bleenqwuaker!

The video I've seen of this looks kick-butt psychedelic. Here's hoping it's a game my wife will want to play.

I don't know...I'll have to demo this (as is usual for me). I'm an easy sell, though, as I own 32 or so of these games.

I am weak...

This game gave me serious cramps while I was playing it. I mean that in a good way! :D

The easy music are fun, while the hard music is just insane where you see a flood of arrows scrolling up (and across!) the screen.

I hear the difficulty advances or tailors to the player. Is that true?

UPDATE: oh, and achievements?

Oh excellent news. I've been waiting for this one, but had NO IDEA when it was coming out.

I just watched the video. Little coloured dots float up (instead of down) and you hit them in time to the music. To be honest, it looks like Guitar Hero II, minus the fun.

Still, if you can't afford GHII it might be worth a look.

And it's also nice that Live Arcade is keeping up it's current streak of decent games. The days of bad ports (or nothing at all) seem to have, thankfully, fallen behind us.

I was saving 800pts for Catan, but if it's not coming this week I'll blow them on more GH2 songs when they come out.

Achievements are basically your unlockables, some easy, some hard.

I'm not sure about the scaling difficulty though -- I hadn't experienced it while I was playing. Maybe it does scale a bit because the game is pretty forgiving of misses as long as you can crank out a steady combo afterwards. Too many misses in a row and it's game over.

I read the title of this thread and for some reason thought it was going to be Chu Chu Rocket.

I am disappointed.

Do you have someplace that sells them at a discount?

I'd ask the same thing, because you're paying a markup at most retail chains if there's no special.

Do the math first (and poke an MS accountant in the eye for making 'math' necessary on this crap!).

Looks cool. Too bad I already have it on the PS2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FantaVision) :)

Yes, but did it have achievements? :D

/cuz I hate achievements. Maybe I should just get that one, and not the 360 one? ;)

Are we playing the same game because I thought it blew. Completely pointless and has no motivation to progress through the game, unless you're really looking forward to the next generic techno song.

Nope, and I do know that it is a little cheaper to buy directly from Microsoft but I've heard way too many horror stories with them to trust them with my credit card.

1600 point cards go for like $20 on Amazon.com with free shipping.

Yeah, this is just like Fantavision, because it has fireworks. And Mario Kart is just like Dr. Mario because they both have Mario.

It also costs 90 bucks. This seems like a little rhythm game that could end up being pretty fun, and if nothing else it has purdy colors.

Nothing wrong with playing two fun games, even if one is much more fleshed out.

True... and BBR would be kinda neat if you could play it with the GHII controller.

Tel...you mentioned saving points for Catan. Is that supposed to be coming out soon? I just played it for the first time over Christmas and thought it was pretty fun (especially when certain people end up with certain roles...i.e. Tel Prydain is the "wood man" who seems to be the only one consistently getting lumber and is constantly making deals with people, while Camel has some unholy fixation on building the longest road...stuff like that).

Ah but you can. The GHII controller can work with any game. The question is more a question of adapting to it.

Adapting is kind of hard too...it's like your (read: Camel's) brain can't comprehend what is going on or something.

I used to guitar to browse through Live Marketplace for a few minutes, and it took me 2 or 3 seconds each time I wanted to hit a button just to make sure I was doing it right. Plus for some reason, the guitar would scroll through the list of downloads super fast, like the "strings" were permanently in the down position or something.

I have no problem with browsing the dashboard, except when I want to go left and right and have to use the d-pad.

Catan is on it's way to live, and it should be close (I hope).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catan

Not only is it a great board game, on live it would kinda be like a civ/simcity type game... which is something the 360 could really use.

Tipping the controller up is also the same as holding down a trigger.

At this stage it looks like Live will have something great every week for the next wee while. I just want Catan to hurry up.

3D Mini-golf Adventures?! Not going to lie, that sounds pretty exciting too! :D

Between that, Catan, Ikaruga, and whatever else is coming out, it looks like I'll be getting even more addicted to XBLA than I already am.

Just my opinion though.

Have you tried it with the Guitar controller? That could add something. Your just hitting face buttons right?

Ya, I suppose so. But this is all techno music, and it doesn't seem to match up with the beat of the music very well.

Same here, didn't find it fun at all, after the last weekend playing a lot of DJ Max Portable 2. That game destroys my sleep.

It's not really better than alot of the rythem games that are already out, but it's not too bad. Using the face buttons for the triggers seemed to help me out abit and heck if the music does not put my child to sleep. Well worth the 800 points just for that!

See, and here I Like BBR quite a bit, the fireworks just Do something for me for some reason. On the other hand, I couldn't stand DJMax Portable 1, still have a copy somewhere of the Korean/International Version, and just haven't been able to enjoy it for some reason.

I picked it up this morning and like it alright. You have to be pretty exact with the timings, but I found that it followed the songs fine. I played a few songs on medium then had to leave for work. I am pretty into music games though, so maybe I am being a little easy on it.
