The latest official PlayStation 2 magazine has new details (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/news/nid/865/912/) on GTA: Liberty City Stories for the PSP.

Rockstar has said the controls will be adjusted to suit the PSP and a new targeting system has been created making locking onto targets even easier than in other GTAs. The rumoured wireless multiplayer modes have, however, been given a shot in the foot, with Rockstar concentrating on the single player game and refusing to comment on multiplayer.
Shame about the multiplayer, but this should still be the killer PSP title this winter.

Let's announce multiplayer for the next GTA so we can axe it then too. It's tradition.

Rockstar had announced it? Officially? Did I miss something? Heck, even in this article, they didn't axe it. They just "refused to comment."

Generally that's what they've done in the past, announce multiplayer and then drop it due to "time considerations". It'll most likely happen with this one too.

GTA will never have multiplayer, no matter how much we beg and plead. A shame, running around beating other *human beings* to death with a bat would really make us popular in Washington.

I don't really remember Rockstar ever officially announcing multiplayer for any GTA except maybe San Andreas. But either way, I do remember them constantly hinting at a fully online one, possibly even an MMO. Meh, I'm sure we'll get GTA mutiplayer at some point in the future. There's money to be made.

I would love to see a MMO version of GTA :)

I'd be interested in seeing what they do with it. I bet we will.

Frankly, I'm kinda tired of this constant emphasis on multiplayer. Just gimme a damn good single-player experience and I'm happy.

Agreed. I have dreamed long and hard about this and it is interesting how much of the framework is alread there. Different gangs / law enforcement groups [police / military / FBI] could be the races. Different positions [chief / beat cop / drug dealer / kingpin] could be the classes. Rockstar has already shown they can create large, incredibly believable environments. The list goes on. In my opinion, this is the only way to properly bring GTA online. A simple deathmatch or CTF scenario would simply not do the games justice. The story, characters, and conflicts present in the single player experiences would have to be maintained through any mulitplayer effort.

Watch now, they end up making it turned based or something really gay, LOL.

Two words: splitscreen multiplayer. Oh yea. Me and a bud playing co-op on my Xbox. Oh yea.

Unless Rockstar can come with with a really really great multiplayer system (and with their track record, they probably can, so this might be a moot point), I'm inclined to agree. They've been doing such a stellar job with their single player games, I wouldn't want anything to detract from that.

I imagine that a GTA MMO would kind of be like Enter the Matrix, except without the superhuman powers. If Rockstar created an enmormous city with NPCs and loaded with vehicles, and just threw hundreds of players in it with missions, it'd be really fun to play.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading an interview with Dan Houser that said San Andreas wouldn't have MP because of the type of game it is, and similarly nor would the next.

Also, as far as GTA MMO goes, APB is from one of the designers of the first GTA, and appeared to be almost just that. God knows when it's out though.

This is lame. I think they think they need to offer a complex, rich multiplayer experience. They don't. No missions, no storyline, just the game. Just let several players run wild in the game stealing cars and whatnot. Just a sandbox.

People would be happy with that and it would be easy to do.

I dunno. Multiplayer would be cool, but I think they've been delivering really solid, well-designed gameplay, and I hope they never compromise that to add a feature they're not completely sold on. Rememer Deus Ex multiplayer?

That said, if they DID introduce a cool multiplayer, I would play the living hell out of it.

It'd be insane. You wouldn't be able to get into a car without being jacked, totaled, or shot up.

Wireless PSP co-op would be cool too.
