Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com) has a first look at Pandemic's new title Saboteur (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/saboteur/news.html?sid=6168758&tag=topslot;title;1&om_act=convert&om_clk=topslot) . For the first time, experience 3rd person action in World War 2! Really though, this appears to be a fresh take on things.

The basic framework of the game is third-person action. You'll guide Sean on his run of revenge through, above, and around the streets of Paris. You'll be able to pick up weapons and drive vehicles as needed to ensure you get your job done. Sean's lack of formal training will influence the game's action, as he'll be a little rough around the edges and more improvisational than your typical soldier. The stealth elements in the game range from your standard sneaking around rooftops to avoid being seen to, of course, murdering quietly. One of the interesting stealth aspects is that in some cases, you'll need to quickly blend in with the crowds, so you might have to grab an unsuspecting lady and make out to keep from being discovered. One thing to note is that Sean is in this strictly for payback, so while you'll clash with Germans, you're not necessarily fighting for the Allied forces. This isn't to say you won't wind up helping them out if your goals happen to match theirs, but it's not really a focus.

All of the above may not sound completely new, but read the article, especially about bringing hope to the city. Plus, it's Pandemic.

Just to be a pain in the ass, there's a PS3 version coming as well. ;)

Some of the promo shots are looking pretty sexy. I especially like the black and white shot on the castle ramparts (or something?) with the Nazi zeppelin.

An interesting take on the whole WWII video game thing that's essentially been done to death. At least it's sort of original. So is this going to give us a sandbox to play in or will it be pretty heavily level-based? I never played Mercenaries which it sounds like it draws a bit from, so I don't know what to expect.

Title edited. I just must've missed the "also on" section :D

From the article ;)

The city is a large playground, and as with Mercenaries, it will provide a large amount of ground to cover. You'll be able to roam the streets, take to the roofs, or drive around the country.

Yeah, I read that but I didn't know if that meant you'd have the whole city available all the time and just be given objectives to do at your leisure more or less or if you'd be given the city in chunks as you progressed through well-defined levels. Like I said, I haven't played Mercenaries, so I'm a little out of the loop.

Edit: But I guess as I read it again, that sort of implies you'll be able to mess around in the whole deal (large playground). I must be slow today.

Mercenaries was a nearly entire open world game.

The black and white is very interesting and a cool idea. It makes for a neat visual style as well.

Games like these are what make me really want to buy a 360 :( Sounds like the game will be amazing. If they follow through with all the promises in that article, I may have to consider buying it to play on a buddy's 360 because I love WWII FPSes and the spin in this game sounds like it could be really engaging.

Is there a bigger image that that thumb links to? It's too tiny to see what's going on. It looks like some kind of transition from black and white to color and a Nazi zep.

I loved the feeling that the art direction and cinemas in IO's "freedon fighters". I would try this game out - in the tired WW2 era - just because they made the game.

EDIT- it appears IO didn't make this game, they're doing Kane and Lynch.

Ah well- the black and white angle side by side looks cool.

I was just talking to a co-worker about why more games to play with colors and all that. This could be really cool. I know back in the day there was an FPS that was supposed to look like kids pencil sketches but it never came out. Something like that would be awesome.

Does the whole black and white thing bother anyone else? It kills me.

A developer from Pandemic was visiting our school two weeks ago and gave us a demo of it (I think before most people saw it) and it was definitely really impressive.

I was almost upset when I heard it was a WW2 game, but then the way they did the open world and the style they are using... well I was definitely impressed by everything. Sign me up.

Darn - I thought it was a remake of the old Durrell 64/Spectrum game.

Still sounds interesting.

The black and white thing seems really awesome if you ask me. I'm pumped for this. Could be a good sleeper hit.
