Microsoft has announced 2 premium Halo 2 maps available for download on April 17th. The maps are updated versions of the original Halo maps of Hang Em' High and Derelict.
The two maps will bring new life to ancient battlefields and legendary skirmishes, as both are new, improved and redesigned remakes of fan favorites from the original “Halo: Combat Evolved.” For the price of $4 for the pair, these maps bring a fresh burst of action to the seminal “Halo 2” online multiplayer experience. Both of the maps will be available through the “Halo 2” in-game content downloader for both Xbox and Xbox 360.*
The king of “Halo” maps has returned at last. Hang ’Em High, arguably the most popular multiplayer map for the original title, has been reimagined for “Halo 2” as Tombstone, with all-new graphics, features and a few hidden surprises. Now fans will enjoy the dangerous catwalks and trenches that made this the most requested “Halo” multiplayer map ever, with a modernized “Halo 2” flavor.

Damn it! Where's my Damnation! These maps must be separate than the exclusive XBox 360 Maps coming later this spring.

Halo 2” Fans Prepare for Battle as Exclusive New Maps Expand the Most Popular Title on Xbox LIVE
Two of the most popular multiplayer maps from the original “Halo: Combat Evolved” will arrive as premium downloadable content for “Halo 2” in April.
REDMOND, Wash. — March 30, 2007 — Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie Studios today confirmed the upcoming release of two new, eagerly awaited downloadable maps for “Halo® 2.” The maps will be available as premium downloadable content for Xbox® and Xbox 360™ on April 17.
Fans of the original “Halo” have long requested the addition of some of their favorite maps to the critically acclaimed multiplayer experience of “Halo 2.” These re-creations, developed by Bungie and Certain Affinity Inc., are a perfect way to thank fans for their support as they surpass 800 million hours of “Halo 2” gaming on Xbox LIVE®.

The second map, Desolation, is a symmetrical, Deathmatch-oriented map and a beautiful remake of the original Derelict. With new graphics and effects and a massive gameplay overhaul, the old favorite is now faster-paced and more balanced than ever — perfect for intense “Halo 2” combat.
“Halo 2” is the sequel to the highly successful and critically acclaimed “Halo: Combat Evolved” and represents the second chapter in the epic “Halo” trilogy. Since its launch in fall 2004, “Halo 2” has maintained its place as the most popular Xbox LIVE title ever. To date, gamers have logged more than 800 million hours of “Halo” multiplayer action on Xbox LIVE, and they are eagerly awaiting “Halo 3,” slated for release this fall. The “Halo” franchise is among the biggest worldwide entertainment properties in history and continues to change the way people think about interactive entertainment.

I loved Hang 'em High. I don't think it will be quite the same without the pistol though.

Good point. I forgot the role the pistol played ;)
Where the fucks Damnation.
1) Should be free
2) Bout fuckin' time
Still, cool beans none the less that they're still supporting it this long after release. Of course, there are still tons of people playing it, so that could be a possible reason...

The center is going to have be at least......3 times as big!
You're absolutely right, Derick.

Q2 FTW! I still love playing q2dm4 I think it is. The one with the railgun underneath the water and the elevator that leads to the armor and what not. They ported it in Q4.

What was the level that had the two ships facing each other and tons of warp points and stuff?
Me and my friends used to play that with all rockets and unlimited grenades, it was so fun. Then, when we were bored of actually playing, we would stick a grenade to our own feet, blast off with a rocket and try to get our corpses across the gap to the other ship.
Good times.

I think that one was called "Boarding Action." I had forgotten all about that one. It was an interesting concept.

Oh man Boarding Action was absolute hell if you had a good sniper on the other team...bad LAN party memories. Personally, if Bungie really loves their fans, I think they should just hold off and release every Halo 1 and 2 map for Halo 3 multiplayer. I figure, the more maps they release for Halo 2 the more they'll be criticized for bringing those maps to Halo 3, so why not just hold off?

That would be q2dm1, The Edge. That is probably my favorite map ever created.

THE EDGE! Yeah I loved that map!
The first pic looks like a Q3A level and the second a UT2004 level. New stuff's always cool, but I'd love to hear/see something new on Halo 3.

AIIEEEEE!!!
This week's Bungie Weekly Update (http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid=12324) has AWFUL NEWS:
You WILL have to pick which box to install it on. It’s tied to the box you download it to, as well as your Live account, so you effectively can’t have it on more than one system. Sorry.
Also, regarding:
Damn it! Where's my Damnation! These maps must be separate than the exclusive XBox 360 Maps coming later this spring.
Nope. This is it for Halo 2 maps:
They’re remakes of Hang ‘Em High and Derelict. We’ve been working with Certain Affinity (Max Hoberman, formerly of Bungie’s new joint) to make sure that we didn’t just slap together a port of an old map, but rather, lovingly craft a last salute to Halo 2 multiplayer as we move toward Halo 3 in the fall.
(...)
Now, about the downloading and payment and compatibility and all that. It works on Xbox and 360. It was originally scheduled to be a 360 only game, but it just wasn’t going to work out... So in the interests of fairness and an easy life, it’s on Xbox and Xbox 360.
(emphasis mine)
NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

As much as I love Hang 'Em High and Derelict, these new maps are shit.
There is no point in releasing new maps for Halo 2 when the H3 Beta is about to begin.
I also think they are full of shit with their so called 'thank you to all our fans' if you really wanted to thank all the people who play Halo 2 then these maps should be free of charge.
Halo 2 is old, it is an incomplete half ass game not even worthy of being called a sequel to Halo.
Let this game die and be forgotten.

This news just got trumped by Epics. They do it right.. for free. This game is old.. and these maps are rehashes to boot. THEY SHOULD BE FREE.

Edge rocked, but sorry, q1dm3 - the abandoned base is far and away the best DM map ever.

Epic releases new, free content for a new game.
MS and Bungie charge for re-made old content for an old game.

MS apparently has your back on this one...
/after picking your pocket, raping your women, burning your village, and charging you for the experience, as well!/
Unfortunately, I'll have to buy these. Despite the haters, I enjoy Halo 2 multiplayer. It's fun, and that is what matters in my book.

Yeah no kidding.
But you know, Halo 2 is still one of those most fun online console games ever. I played Gow and R6 and I even bought Graw2 but somehow my friends and I all end up going back to Halo 2.
