Post 1: "Since there is a lot of interest in the demo, this post is the official news, which will be updated every time we know something for certain.
As of 11:40am BST today, the expectation is that the demo will not be available today as it has yet to pass final stage testing.
The demo is anticipated to release tomorrow at which point it will only be available on Gamespot for "Gamespot Complete" subscribers.
The full open-to-all release of the demo is expected next week. We do not have a fixed day for this release at this time."
Post 2: "Update :
We've now heard that the demo will not required any form of paid subscription to Gamespot. When ready, the demo will first be available from here.
Apologies for the confusion regarding when and where the demo will be available, however this news should be treated as "most accurate" at time of writing.
Should any further changes occur I will update this post accordingly."

But here's a heads up for ATI users: (Read this on Bluesnews)
ATI Cards and Battlefield 2 Demo
In testing the demo, EA has encountered some visual issues on certain ATI cards with the previous Catalyst drivers (5.5) and are working with yesterday's 5.6 release to discover if the issue is resolved. If in playing the Battlefield 2 demo you encounter texture corruption of any kind, we recommend rolling back to the Catalyst 5.1 drivers. ATI is aware of this issue and is working to resolve it.
Edit: Varsity, (Your link) WOW! You da man. I was getting 1000KB+...down to 500KB. I'll be done in about 15-18 minutes! SWEET. Thanks Varsity.

While it’s not a titillating page turner or anything, a copy of the Battlefield 2 readme file has apparently been leaked onto the Intertron. I wouldn’t ordinarilly bother mentioning this to you, except it contains their mysterious system requirements:
- Minimum Specification:
CPU: 1.7 Ghz
RAM: 512 Mb
Video Card: NVidia GeForce FX 5700, ATI Radeon 8500 or ATI Radeon 9500
with 128 Mb of RAM

CPU: 2.4 Ghz

It didn't take long for the original seed to bottom out. Last I heard, we're still uploading the file at over 13megabytes/second... which is over 3x faster than a T3 for those of you that are curious.
Also, since I'm a kind soul and Adelphia could care less, I'm going to seed the file for awhile and let the world take advantage of another 60kb/sec.
PS: If you notice the news page or download page stuttering, it's because of the demo. :o

Another quick update from the head of our operations:
We managed to pass out over 20 gigs worth of bandwidth between the time we posted the demo and about 5:35 PM EDT. We did cut our side of the output back to ~3 megabytes/sec, but keep in mind that we're now at over 3000 peers.
From what I'm hearing though, this hasn't really affected anything. The foks on the DSLR boards and some folks in the NYC area are reporting that the download is still going really fast compared to most of the other sites out there, which I'm glad to hear.
On a sidenote, with over 3000 people connected... we would need somewhere between 10-15 times the amt. of bandwidth we were originally putting out (which started out at 13 megabytes/sec) to actually satisfy the needs of everyone.
I'm downloading at 75 and uploading at 42 on the mininova torrent right now. How's the filerush torrent doing? It's pointless for me to switch now with how fast I'm going now but it's nice to know how fast certain torrents are going, heh.

It would be good if an admin could change the topic to something more suitable.
No problem, it's done.
On filerush I am currently downloading at 74K uploading at 136K. I was downloading as high as 110K and as low as 40K.
Damn, so I made the wrong choice! Oh well, I should just go watch a movie or something so I'll get back and it will be done and I'll have seeded for quite a few people, heh.

I had to wait a bit in the queue (20 mins?) but now I'm getting it from FileFront at about 200kb/sec! FF seems like it's one of the few sites still up where you can get this from at a decent rate!

My download from Gamepsot was decent, about 120kbps. However, I installed the game and it won't load past the Geometries point. Love when a demo fails to load, can't wait to buy this one....

Got lucky on the backup link to Download.com... then it crashed. However, I got back on DLing 30k faster than before... but still going a slow 80k but at least it is going.
The demo is locking up all the hosted sites that I tried. Just got tired of waiting in a stupid Queue only to have it lock up and restart my wait time... Bastards!
Thanks for the links here!

Ha! How fortunate that my ti 4400 NVidia card died on me a few days ago; I replaced it with an FX 5700. These kinds of coincidences are occuring too often for me; what does it mean? Years of gaming tells me I am the Chosen One, on a quest to rid our land of the mysterious evil force.

Yeah, the main features of Quadro cards are meant graphic development i.e. 3D applications. But games are still playable (very well).
This is the first game/demo that I COULD NOT play in the 2+ years that I have own this video card.
And since this demo is based off of the retail, I'm SOL.
Oh well, back to my nurb spheres.

I'm not having performance issues, but I am having lots of disconnects from servers. And tons of lag. I'm sure it's just a case of too many DSL/Cable servers. I'm hoping so anyway.

This game was surprisingly fun... I got so sick of all those WWII games that I never wanted to see another -- when I heard this game wasn't about some war long passed I decided to give it a try.
It is coming to PS3/Xbox360, right?
I think I might have to get it for one of them -- seems like it'd be a lot of fun online (I only tried the single player mode)...

This pretty much says exactly what I was thinking. It's almost identical to the Desert Combat mod, and add's one of the worst control configuration setups ever.

It starts really choppy, even unplayable, then after about two minutes once it gets going it runs smooth as silk. When its good it runs perfect, completely perfect, but the first 2 minutes after a load I'm useless (on that topic, why bother reloading the same map over and over? Why not just restart rounds and not reload)
I run at 1028x768 with everything maxed and no AA. I dont know if there is a fps display option, but it feels like 40 fps or so.

BF2's ingame browser keeps locking the whole thing up for minutes at a time if you try to do anything. Seeing as ASE doesn't support it yet I'm forced to use Gamespy Arcade.
Guess what? It just locked up.
Edit: GSA doesn't support it either. This game is frustrating enough when you are playing it!

Frankly I've been underwhelmed by this game too.
Battlefield: Vietnam with that modern military mod is better than this. Heck, Desert Combat is better than this.
This game feels way, way too much like an arcade game. But then again, it's a modern Electonic Arts game, so why am I surprised? I don't know.
I was going to hold out and buy this game instead of San Andreas... but now I'm going to screw that idea and go pick up San Andreas today. Screw EA and the horse they rode in on.

So has anyone else had problems remapping the configuration keys? I play with the numeric keypad and the game won't let me remap the 8/4/6/2 keys to what i want them to be, telling me that they are in use, yet I do not see them in any of the config screens.
I don't use WASD to play, and I am much more comfortable with my regular FPS key config. I hope this is a bug and it doesn't happe in the retail because so far the demo is alot of fun, but this would actually prevent me from buying the game. My key config dates back to Quake, and I'm not about to re-learn a new setup just for one game.
Too many shitty laggy servers. I have found the occasional good one. There should be a liecnse to run public game servers.

I'm surprised that so many people are disappointed with this game. I find it fantastic. I see a major graphical improvement over Desert Combat (that water, those physics, this building..), and I think that the biggest and best difference is squads and commanders.
If you haven't tried playing as a commander yet, I'd urge you to. There's nothing quite like moving squads of real people around the strategic map, calling in artillery strikes to win the day, and informing Bravo squad of the two tanks just over the next ridge. It's a blast.
It runs with no problems on my machine (P4 2.55ghz, Radeon X800, 1.5gb RAM). The key to preventing lag is to avoid the 64 person servers, stick to 48, or preferably 32.

1600x1200 all settings max (except AA) and it runs really well once loaded.
Theres a fair amount of lag from time to time, though.
I like to be SF so I can sneak up on tanks and drop C4 on their asses. Good times.

I think BF2 is a good game overall. The graphics and physics have been improved and the commander mode adds a whole bunch of new game play strategies. I think some people were expecting a more radical change. This is BF1942 but better. It seems to run well for me so far. I'm running in 1024x768 resolution with high detail settings. Using fraps I'm consistently getting between 50-60FPS. When I'm in a tank or truck and there is a big battle with several vehicles and people then it sometimes dips down into the 40's but that's still acceptable in my opinion.

I had the same problem The games technical support is sh$t and doesn't even come close to helping the user to get the game running.
I did the following:
I navigated to the /directx folder on the DVD
I opened the file: Apr2005_d3dx9_25_x86.cab (since I have an x86 system and not a 64 bit)
I copied the compressed file called d3dx9_25.dll to the /games/Battlefield 2/ folder.
I opened the file Feb2005_d3dx9_24_x86.cab (sincd I still have an x86 system)
I copied the compressed file called d3dx9_24.dll to the /games/Battlefield 2/ folder.
I can now run the game. I wasn't able to before due to an erroe i was getting about "cannot find the file d3dx9_25.dll. Now it is all fixed.
Hope this helps someone. I was unable to play this game due to this.
