According to a recent post by blog site Nintendo Centrium, the specifications to Nintendo's highly elusive Revolution console have been "leaked" via an inside programmer who is currently under contract with the company. Known only as HereticPB from the post, the blogger describes quite a bit about the machine saying that it will be powered by 2 G5 1.8GHz CPUs and feature a 6GB HD Dual Layer Panasonic disc as the media format, as well as an embedded 16-bit 7.1 digital sound chip.

If Apple -- who's arguably had as much hardware experience as Nintendo -- can't get a single G5 to work properly without overheating into a Powerbook, how does Nintendo manage to be able to squeeze TWO G5's into a console the size of 3 DVD cases?

Hope that's not real, because that would make Rev the weakest console by far. Too little RAM, small L2, underpowered (comparatively) CPU...
But then again, it's not like they would ever be able to pack much more into that small box.
I cannot wait to see this system become another N64 and Gamecube. Nintendo systems are nothing but a niche market, now.
Hope this is their last.

Besides, they are the only company that manages to make a steady profit, even on the hardware.

This is fake just like that Revolution controller leaked video and the information on the squeeze controller, and every other spec released on the system. Nothing leaks from Nintendo, ever. Unfortunately all of these fake leaks are just going to get people’s hopes up like the controller video did. I doubt Nintendo will have a multi core proc, there’s just nowhere for the heat to go in their tiny case (though at 1.8Ghz it may not be a problem).
I also don’t expect their dics will be HD for the simple reason that they were the only system at E3 to not announce their support for HDTV. They also have never shown an intrest in the past for wanting to be on the cutting edge of displaying media that isn’t games. None of their other systems have supported CDs or DVDs, so there’s no reason for me to believe that this one will either.

Unlike Microsoft who, I'm guessing, mandates every 360 game to be HD and 5.1.

Interesting point. I would have just said that it's because if Nintendo drops making hardware, I have on less console to buy and still have access to their games.

I hate having 3 systems in my entertainment center. Competition is good, so I'd like two systems. I don't care who the hell bails: MS, Sony, Nintendo. Just get me down to 2 systems, please.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo has stated the Rev will play DVDs, though it will require purchase of some sort of peripheral. Also, they announced they were creating a movie division, which implies eventual DVD releases and thus a machine capable of playing them.

To me, Nintendo fanboys lapping up every Mario and Zelda game thrown at them is far more tolerable and credible than all these Xbox fanboys eating up every generic FPS/EA Sports/EA Big game thrown at them.

Everyone is a fanboy on some level. Whether you choose to verbalize this in such a way that you repulse even those who respect you is your choice. How many different consoles you own has no bearing on your position, because no matter what you believe, you probably favor one console, label, or company at heart. Calling someone a fanboy and launching a semicoherent, utterly obscene and even more pointless assault on their integrity is what seperates you from the rational people here who are trying to table a discussion. You know who you are.(I hope)
Frankly, I think anyone these days voicing a strong opinion on any console related matter is ultimately labeled a fanboy. Its just a knee-jerk reaction to seeing any type of loyalty in this buisness.

Next, on the topic of fanboys, I am really surprised I see people that dislike Nintendo fanboys. I mean, I am one, and I always got the feeling we were a clean, industrious people, capable of intellegent conversation about the next generation of games.
I have to say I have the same impession of PS2 gamers as OSX does though. They live for their generic RPGs, Sports, EA bullshit games. The reason I'm 20 and still like Nintendo? Miyamoto is a genious and he makes innovative software that gives the industry a chance.
The industry isn't "growing up" as you say. Games don't have to be about killing whores to be fun. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Halo/Unreal Tournament junkie, but I have just as much fun playing Katamari Damacy, Nintendogs, Super Mario, Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, etc.
Nintendo's niche market will never go away, sorry to dissapoint you Zeal. Have fun playing GTA and Madden. I'll never bastardize the industry playing crap like that.

But, in the PS2's defense, it does have some pretty stellar RPG's. I thought the well was dry in the GC RPG department, then they rock my socks with the one-two punch of Tales of Symphonia and Paper Mario. I mean, FF is great, but ToS was my Game of the Year 2004 hands down. No contest.
Thats what Nintendo is all about (and maybe that isnt good, but I tolerate it). You suffer a bit, but when you get a jewel, its usually a diamond the size of a watermelon.
