Mexican State Govt. Will Seize All Copies of GRAW2

According to Juarez newspaper El Diario, the governor of the Mexican state of Chihuahua has ordered the seizure of all copies of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2.

Gov. Jose Reyes Baeza Terraces apparently took the action following recent criticism of GRAW2 by Juarez Mayor Héctor Murguía Lardizábal, who called the game, which deals with battles between an elite U.S. force an Mexican rebels, ”a crime against the intellectual capacity of Juarez residents.”

There is alot of underplayed racism in this thread, and it really disappoints me. I thought that this website was a half-decent place to come to and get my news, then I read the comments on a thread like this and it makes me sick.

I started to write a rant about how illogical you claiming that government censorship of a video game was somehow protecting it's people from harm, but then I realized I'd probably be arguing with a rock. We're talking about a horribly corrupt government that is sitting by while a country with a pretty great heritage and culture is wasting away under the oppression of drugs, human trafficking, poverty and gang violence. A country that is eager to make it's populace LEAVE the country in an effort to ease economic woes, to the point that it misses the long term ramifications of sending away their best and hardest workers and keeping only those who are completely dependent on often illegally generated income from another nation. But somehow, censoring this video game will protect it's people from the ignorance and intolerance of others. Yeahhh. Luckily no one in the world is hates Americans. Woo wee.

Well, Mexican is as much a race as American is. Hey, look at my posts, I havent said anything racist. Hell, I kinda agree with you, in alot of GRAW conversations there is alot of discrimination. Its like bashing Mexicans is allowed, while bashing others isnt.

And just for the record, the seizing of all GRAW2 is pure stupidity. The fact that most posters here seem to notice this is not because they're a bunch of racists. Its the simple fact that suddenly, after most films depict mexicans as tattooed convicts with an extensive vocabulary that includes "Yo Holmes" and "Hey essay.", the corrupt mexican government wants to pretend that this game somehow "downplays" their society. Nevermind the fact that millions of illegal immigrants are flooding into this country to escape the horror that is Mexico and now they want to pretend a game created in the U.S. is causing their people harm? Wake the fuck up. Maybe they should concentrate more on the drug problems and the real issues plaguing their people rather than try to blame their problems on some video game that came from the terrible racist Americans. If thats the case, maybe they should ban every movie made since the early 1980's and every Carlos Mencia DVD.
